When The Oscars Got It Right
Vložit
- čas přidán 9. 02. 2020
- The Oscars are known as much for the snubs as they are the winners. In 2020 Parasite swept the awards so now seems like the best time to go through a number of times the Oscars actually got it right. Subjectively.

#Oscars #Oscars2020
The worst Oscars snub is CATS 2019, for pretty much every single category.
Really goes to show how the Academy ignores horror movies.
I'd rather say great terrible movies.
Stolen joke.
You had us in the first half I’m not gonna lie
So many people have stolen it I don’t know where it originated
@@frankmerker630 It's not necessarily a stolen joke. It's just a joke that's easy to come up with, so several people made the same joke.
So 'The Godfather: The Game' for Caravan of Garbage...?
Caesar0411 both the god father games are pretty good. The first one is okay, the second one is phenomenal.
That's an offer they can't a refuse.
Followed by Scarface, hopefully.
Maybe when that sopranos movie comes out this year, or more accurately it’ll probably be an episode from the show
Yesteday I started replaying The Godfather: The Game, and today I see this, what are the odds
Academy ingores Roger Deakins for nearly 25 years...
2017 and 2020- “Hey maybe let’s start giving this guy some Oscars?”
Helps that Chivo has taken a break after Revenant!
But yeah, should've won for Jesse James.
Travis Spazz personally think he should’ve won in 2012 with Skyfall over Life of Pi, and again in 2013 with Prisoners over Gravity.
Also should’ve won in 2000 with Oh Brother Where Art Thou over Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Definitely should've won with either of the Assassination of Jesse James or No Country for Old Men over There Will Be Blood (which was good but basically just won for the giant oil rig). Personally I'd pick tAoJJ(btcRF)
@@cb1784 I'd pick either Sicario, NCFOM, or Skyfall, but honestly literally any of his other films would work just fine
mars needs moms
not just a movie, but a fact.
a statement that will some day be heard by the right people
No it needs women. Angry Red Women.
Mars wants milfs eh? ;D
I like Cheese
Don't worry .When Blue Origin finally land female astronauts there ,you can say we have Amazon women on Mars.
When you leave a email asking Eminem to perform at the Oscars and he ghost's you for 17 years 💀
Martin Scorsese's reaction while his rap was the best thing of the night.
Bruh for a sec i thought u had the 100K subs checkmark
The Lighthouse was snubbed
Yeah the fact that Williem Defoe wasn't even nominated is a crime

I thought the Oscars got it right when Hayao Miyazaki won an Oscar for spirited away.
The Best Animated Film category was created by Disney to fellate themselves. Spirited Away has been the only non-Disney film to win. And by that time, Disney had Studio Ghibli under it's distribution umbrella.
overlookers, Shrek won the first year the category was made.
@@overlookers Aside from Shrek, Wallace and Gromit, Happy Feet, Rango and Into The Spiderverse. Really, Pixar has been king more than Disney, at least until recently, and a whole lot of those winners really deserved it.
Agree, and sadly, those kind of movies (2D animation) probably will never won oscar again because academy will always prefer 3D animation movies
Lachlan and guess who owns Pixar
hell yeah aliens in the attic
Such a classic
The most underrated alien movie of all time
Look at the rig on Roger Deakins
Ironically that's toned down from his actual body. Probably.
He got hoed so many times
You mean his dick?
Corn of coblin didn't win best actor. So the Oscars will never get it 100% right.
Maclunkey
I'm amaized they snubbed him again!
Sandler not getting a nod for Uncut Gems is a joke, one of the most bizarrely compelling performances i've seen in years
The movie also should’ve gotten a nomination for best director or best original screenplay.
Matt Wix Second best film of the decade.
Was Sandler honestly as good as the ones already nominated? You wanna put him over Willem Dafoe for example (Also snubbed)
@@14DANESSJ i'd nominate him or Willem Defoe over Banderas, Pryce, maybe Driver. Defoe should have 100 percent gotten a nod too. Supporting Actor would have made sense given his role in The Lighthouse being more as a foil for Pattinson's lead.
Who would you not have nominated instead of him?
I honestly couldn't believe Willem Dafoe wasn't even nominated for The Lighthouse, he gave one of the best performances I've seen
Honestly think these 2 guys are the most easy to listen/best to put u in a good mood on CZcams.
Below average video, only woke up *ONE* of my kids with uproarious laughter instead of all three.
Just kidding this video was above even your usual standards,
But did it win an Oscar?
@@SJ9001 the kids that didn't wake up won 3 Oscars each, because they did wake up but acted asleep
Godfather 1&2 wernt good was said in the video above, says alot....
I was rooting for Joaquin Phoenix and was so glad he got that award. when he tried to mention his brothers name it broke my heart but he used that wisdom his brother gave him and it was beautiful.
When does James & Maso get their Pod Oscar?!
Pooj's Variety Hour didn’t they win in 2016?
Podscar
I wish I could add more “likes” to your videos. 🤣 when you stated that this narrative was in the style of Pulp Fiction, rofl
Annihilation should've been nominated and won for best soundtrack, I will go to my grave on this fact.
I'll climb into that grave with you, I agree
Annihilation should have been shown in actual movie theaters. I’ll go to my grave damning the Hollywood producer who shunted this generations 2001: A Space Odyssey into the three theaters that do independent films then straight to Netflix
Fuck it make it a grave for 3
History will redeem it
Thank you!! Favorite of 2018!! Score, sound, adapted, cinematography etc.
Mr.Sunday movies guys: tell us what you think
Me: I haven’t seen any of these
You haven't seen pulp fiction or Forest Gump????
InCultured swine
Stop only going to the movies for superhero films.
@@goku8621 blade runner 2049 cries in the background
The only movie I’ve seen is the 2011 This is not a movie by Olallo Rubio. Sorry guys
The Shawshank Redemption came out the same year as Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump and I think that should have won Best Picture.
That was a great year for movies 👌
Shawshank, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, The Lion King. 1994 will always be one of the best years for cinema (and music too with many classics albums especially in hip hop)
I would have personally mentioned Spider-verse winning but.....
Probably the best film I watched last year.
my favorite marvel movie ever
But what?
Masterpiece
"Muppet Treasure Island" for best pirate puppet movie.
5:57 The way the transition from ‘Rampage’ to ‘No Country for Old Men’ had me thinking NCFOM won best visual effects that year...
There are definitely those rare moments when they get it exactly right. Christoph Waltz winning Best Supporting Actor for Inglourious Basterds is a big one. God damn did he deserve that award ten times over.
I feel like the supporting categories usually go to the right people because that category is almost always the most competitive.
It’s almost like you have to stand out as a supporting actor in a film to even get recognized to begin with
Mason is just a fountain of pure comedic gold
The Lighthouse was snubbed, Willem Dafoe's performance was exceptional
Indeed, but at least he didn't get a nom just to lose for a 3rd year in a row
@@vb8428 I think that in the best supporting actor category he would have easily won
As was robert pattinsons
Who would you not have nominated instead of him?
Adam Sandler deserves an Oscar for Little Nicky
“Popeye’s Chickin is Fuckn’ Awesome! >;•D”
He deserves it more for playing two very different roles in Jack and Jill
He needs it for Jack and Jill and pixels
My depression movie
Please don't, not even funny as a joke.
James, you absolute savage. You've done it again. Hannibal may never recover from this.

Dude where's my car? deserved all the awards from that year
That Blade Runner transition had me in tears
Saving Private Ryan losing to Shakespeare in Love for Best Picture
It would get called sexist in today's world for not including female soldiers
Blaine's Wasteland when Battlefield 1 gets called sexist for not having female soldiers in WW1, N7 might be right
Thumbs up for, "Horse that's not as good as Phar Lap"
Denzel Washington's performance in "Glory" was the best acting I've ever seen. Best win.
I don't watch that many movies, but I do listen to music and St. Elmo's Fire not even being nominated for Best Original Song is ridiculous.
Godfather 3: Slow Sicilian Stuff makes the first two Godfathers look like Detroit Dumpster fires while enjoying a supreme Godfather’s Pizza
They sure got it right with LOTR: Return of the King.
Love the Aliens in the Attic nod. I thought I was the only person who’d seen that movie.
Still shocked G-Force didn’t even get a nomination for Best visual effects. Still keeps me up at night.
2006 Oscars star wars 3 revenge of the sith visual effects
What about it?
@@daredevil6145 Saying that I think it should've got that award
I cant tell if this is a troll or not, because the prequels had awful special effects
@@GenGaara while I will agree on episodes 1 and 2, I find episode 3s effects to still hold up for the most part today, and look very good for the time
+MKaptain Karo The VFX in Ep. 3 weren't anything special by the time the film had come out, hence it not getting a nomination. Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones at least introduced some new VFX techniques and were very experimental in that regard, but Revenge of the Sith mostly just offered the same familiar stuff everyone was used to by 2005 and it didn't look that great compared to the competition. King Kong easily knocked it out of the park, with the exception of some really bad compositing here and there.
Ultimate Snub: Michael Joseph Jackson for almost playing Spider-man
Finally, Maso got Quentin. I've been waiting years for that
Aliens in the Attic is a blast from the past I did not need right now
Eminem won for 8 Mile (Lose Yourself). You literally mentioned a guy staying at home thinking he's not gonna win. That's Eminem.
The departed I think got an Oscar and for sure deserved it
Agreed. Weirdly the three amigos were right behind Scorsese that year! Pan's Labyrinth, Babel, and Children of Men.
No it didn't mate. Children of men came out that year
Your channel is the only one that I actually leave a like or comment when asked to... you guys are awesome and always brighten my day!
This year when Jojo won best adapted screenplay I was super excited, I totally thought it deserved it and never thought it would actually win
So we're just going to ignore the Dexter Jettster snub?
It will be redeemed when they make the Dexter Jettster Stand-alone Star Wars story film
You guys should play that Godfather game for Caravan or Garbage
into the spiderverse absolutely deserved that best animated feature win
Same goes for across the spider verse aswell
I love this channel and I absolutely love the videos. And thank you for mentioning the Super Fly soundtrack, which was an incredible album! Curtis Mayfield at his finest. I truly great body of work.
2001: a space odyssey deserved best picture
That film is insanely ahead of its time. They weren't ready for something that weird in 1968?
I liked The Godfather game. Also when Shakespeare in love bear saving private Ryan I lost all hope in the academy
You can blame Harvey Weinstein for that.
garfield: a tail of two kitties
In 1995 for the 68th Academy Award. Best picture was taken by Braveheart but Apollo 13 also was a very good movie and has done some great visuals during that time.
Space: Above and Beyond

i liked the winners this year, but i didn't like the nominations. they straight up forgot about uncut gems, farewell, dolemite, rocketman, booksmart, honey boy, midsommar (AND CATS!) and the lighthouse only got a cinematography nod
Rocketman got a nomination
@@Enzophanis1892 oh yeah, forgot about that. but i still wanted to see it nominated for best picture or best actor for taron egerton or best costumes
Into the Spiderverse winning best Animated Feature last year is one of the few times I feel like the Academy got it right for that category
John Williams lost an Oscar for "Close encounters of the third kind", to himself for "Star Wars".
They almost got it wrong when La La Land won Best Picture for a couple of minutes, then they got it right after when Moonlight won :)
Uncut Gems getting snubbed is unforgivable
Marisa Tomei 1993 Best Supporting Actress win for My Cousin Vinny! One of those times the Academy NAILED IT!!!!!! Movie still holds up today.
I did not expect to me reminded of Aliens in the Attic today. I'm not complaining, I actually like that movie, I just wasn't expecting it.

It took you a full 3 minutes to remind us to leave a like. I was getting worried you would forget which would mean I wouldn't be allowed to give it a thumbs up
There was actually a movie that got snubbed in production, it didn't make it to the Oscars in the first place. In 1982 they were working on a project called "Blue Harvest" but they ended up dropping it so they could make Star Wars instead
Make Al Pacino your new sign off for all videos 😂
Marvel's The Inhumans 2017 ABC series should have won best picture.
I just hope the academy members actually watched Parasite, and voted for it because they understood that it was the best film of 2019 - not just for the sake of diversity or to appease the public/media
They probably didn't but yeah.....I hope so too.
@Chicken Dancer agreed! :))
I was literally about to comment this. I hope their motivations were in the right place & they didn’t just do it for forced diversity. I am all for diversity & I think that everyone deserves equal opportunity, but I personally can’t stand when people complain that no woman has been nominated for best director & think that a Woman has to be nominated every year. No they don’t, it should come down to who they think did the best job directing the film. I think it has been a problem in the industry that Women haven’t been given as much of chance as men & I’m glad to see them given more opportunities, but that doesn’t mean that a Woman should just be nominated because she is a Woman.
I will never forgive the Academy for snubbing Monster Trucks.
Leo snubbed for Inception, Shutter Island, Great Gatsby, Wolf of Wall Street.
Where’s the greatest cinematic masterpiece to ever grace us mortals : The English Patient?
Big Snub: "Shape of Water" won Best Picture instead of "Three Billboards"
Three bilborads is one of the best movies I ver ever seen, ridiculous it lost against that crappy mediocre film
@@isabellum4676 I totally agree. Films like Shape of Water or Green Book, which are average movies with many cliches are more likely to win the Best Picture-Oscar

They got it right last night. So glad to see Parasite sweep over Joker.
Parasite deserved it all. Truly flawless cinema.
Cloud Atlas didn't even get nominated for Best Hair & Make-up! With the entire ensemble playing multiple, drastically different characters, that whole movie is the hair & make-up department.

Al "Dunkaccino" Pacino was completely snubbed for his groundbreaking role in Jack and Jill.
How did The Lighthouse only get Cinematography seriously
Lost in translation for best screenplay in 2004 oscars was a well deserved win
I loved Return of the King, but I thought Lost In Translation should've won best picture. I think back on that movie far more often than I do RotK.
Micheal joseph jackson didnt get nominated
He was mega snubbed
They defiantly got it right when Spider-Verse won Best Animated Feature.
Klaus deserved to get an oscar for best animation.
“When the Oscars get it right” spoiler alert... NEVER
So long as Once upon a time in Hollywood didn’t win, I’m happy
Totally overrated movie
I think it's a great movie - with the proviso that you have to know quite a bit about old Hollywood and the Manson murders. If you don't, it's a beautifully shot, entertaining piece of nonsense.
Is it fair to criticize the film for that required knowledge? F***ing oath it is. People criticize genre films all the time because they play on nostalgia/previous films/genre tropes/etc - films that do the same thing but with history aren't better, they are exactly the f***ing same. Which makes Once Upon a Time In Hollywood exactly as good as The Force Awakens (note: I loved both of these films).
Ehhhhh nah. I don’t think it’s as good as Tarantino’s other films but that’s not saying much. I thought the performances and the character work was what held that film up. Story was kind of nothing but the characters and acting and the cinematography and all those other things make it great. In my personal opinion.
Justin Murtagh I believe a film should be able to stand on its own two feet, without the need for exterior knowledge to make sense of the story. Your comparison to the Force Awakens is flawed - sure that movie relies heavily on nostalgia, but it’s story still functions on its own. Tarantino’s new film ONLY works if you have a decent amount of knowledge of 1960s Hollywood. Otherwise entire scenes and characters make no sense and are shoved into the story for no narrative reason
With that said, I still don’t even think it works if you do know the people it’s about. Because it’s not actually about the Sharon Tate murders. It doesn’t explore the life and career of Sharon, what it was like to be her, or delve into the fucked up ideology of the killers. The movie (IMO) is bed described as Hollywood nostalgia porn. It’s surface level enjoyable due to the amazing actors but nothing underneath.
@@conorowens8382 So every movie set in WW2 should explain what WW2 was, which countries were involved, and why, and where those countries are.
