  • "The Four Thoughts that Turn the Mind" form the foundation of Ngöndro, the preliminary practices (and ultimately, the whole path) of Vajrayana Buddhism.
In this teaching, Lama Lena discusses the preciousness of human life, the impermanence of life, the suffering of samsara, and karma. She also answers pertinent questions on how these teachings operate in today’s world.
This is a pre-requisite for starting the Extraordinary Ngöndro with Lama Lena and is the basic Buddhist teaching...a building block of all practices!
    Open to all.

Who is writing Lama Lena's (utterly fictional) biography? Maybe it's a graphic novel with a center page that pops up with a diorama of her cave? I dunno . . .but honestly there are endless artistic riches to be plundered here and I think whatever it might be it might be a way to raise dana for the teachings -- a sangha activity that anyone could pitch in on; maybe some sort of scrapbook filled with ephemera and snippets of teachings and some of her favorite texts and a couple of sketches of her elegant profile and a couple of her bawdiest stories and a few of her teacher's favorite recipes and some "road stories". She's got great stories; she's a natural story teller, hilariously funny and has that sly-rascally eye on life. She's such a force of nature it just seems natural that artistic people would want a crack at doing something from their own perspective about her or what she means to them or what the teachings mean to them. Something charming and filled with love and light is what I think of. Teachers do sell stuff all the time to support their teachings and to give their teachings further reach and truthfully people love to have a little token of ephemera from someone they have learned so much from. Unless she would consider doing something more substantial and serious which would be amazing of course but I'm thinking of something that is not demanding on her but more of a gift to her.
Anyone have any thoughts? May all beings be free.

I poked around to find the correct spellings of some of these words so I could look them up. I also added a few I’m familiar with but might be helpful for others:
    gewa
    digpa
    gom/ghom
    ngöndro
    trekcho
    rushen
    kali yuga
    pratyeka-buddha
    dzogchen
    Chenrezig
Anyone know what the words are in the question at 1:42:49? They sound like “sheenay” “towa" “gompa” “zopa”

Shine - calm abiding meditation. Also called Shamata in Sanskrit.
Tawa - The view. The perfect perception of reality as it is. When you have tawa, you experience everything in the highest state of meditation, which is actually beyond meditation.
Gompa - Meditation. Gom is to meditate. Gom-pa is meditation, and also the name of places where people come to meditate.
Zopa - Patience. But not just any patience. Is is the great fulfilment of enduring anything in reality as it is.

is there a way to find out more about the work with the 4 elements? i found most Western occult books to be too inspired by Jungian psychology, or complicating everything too much, and i haven't got around to read Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche's book on the elements... most of the stuff i've found labeled as Native-American spirituality seems to be New Age fluff, and they "always feel off", even if i like what they're saying

Hi there, what are the chants Lama Lena does at the beginning of the teachings? Is it appropriate for us to learn these as well and chant along? Thank you.

Good question! At the beginning, these are lineage prayers (acknowledging and invoking our all of our dharma teachers). It's great to learn these and add in the names of teachers that you've had teachings from as well. You can access them here: lamalenateachings.com/support-material/

Gom is the Tibetan word for “meditation”. It means “to become familiar”.
