I just never understood some of the young South African men and women here (younger to be his sons and daughters) called him by his first name. I am younger to be his son and I would call him Uncle Steve. We are loosing our cultural teachings by day..it's actually embarrasing.

@@mjamitche5245 Yep. Its much much more polite. Coz He's your fathers agemate, you can't call him by his first name. In Kenya, You would address him as so and so's father. So if his daughter is Alice, you'd address him as 'Alice's Dad.' That doesn't sound right in English, but in our native tongues it sounds just right and that's how we refer to all our elders, who are related to us by blood. If not then you have to use, Aunty, Uncle, Grandma, and if not blood related, then Madam, Mr. or Mrs, or Miss, etc. But never by their first name. That would be the height of disrespect and absolutely 'criminal.'

From watching the Family Feud Africa videos, I've realised that Americans are clueless to many words that literally everyone from any english speaking country knows
Cause the rest of the world's English standard is British and American is Americanised/zed English

Been watching a number of these great episodes from Africa and they have given some answers that Steve has never heard but are, far as I know, well known and widely used here in the states.

American English is different to some degree compared to South African English
@@asemahlemakwedini2462 I believe that the English used in South Africa is closer to British English than North American English--or maybe it actually IS British English.
it's pretty much the same specially in terms of offical spelling, but we have adopted some things from American English. Like only older and people from very British backgrounds would say crisps. Most people say chips even though we also call french fries chips too.
We say soccer too, but I think that's the case in a lot of former British colonies like Australia as well since I believe it started as a slang term in Britain but it went out of favour there.
Also we also generally say mom instead of mum. And South African English also has many borrowed words from South African languages specially Afrikaans.
