Can you tell me how to do such coll vivarium as your's?
underrated channel for sure if you did these videos more often i believe you'd be overrated
I recommend you develop an upload schedule!
Yay
When the world needed him the most he returned
Sorry for the wait!! xD
Perfect intro and so true!
Why would the world need him??
@@dean4923 just look at this video... The world DOES need him

Holy shit, the legend returned.
I am back!! Legend or not xD
Holy shit, he really did
"sometimes he blocked the waterfall with his enormous body" hmm sounds like a Snorlax to me
Toadlax? Or is that not allowed xD
A petition to add a new Pokemon-
Toadlax. Type- water, poison.
Special ability- relax- is not affected by group type attaks like earthquake.
Attack- sit- sits on the opponent and eats it.
Dang it would be really scary Pokemon
@@sWooSH_wHooSH Love it xD
@@nordicants6232I have a idea for Pokémon
Name: maclaw
Type:grass
Special ability:dive bomb
It is a macaw and a crab mixed together think of a macaw but with many traits of a crab it's ability is dive bomb it speaks for itself this Pokémon is pretty common it mainly prays on pidgys
You should add freshwater shrimp/crabs or even freshwater snails. They’ll keep the pond clean especially from toxic algae. Overall great video as always, saludos from California 👍🏽👍🏽
Saludos!!! Thank you so much for the input and for watching. Will note :D
@@nordicants6232 Yes, that will be perfect!! I suggest neocaridina shrimp, Amano shrimp, or ghost shrimp.👍🏽 However salamanders may wipe them out
Amano shrimp would be perfect. The females are huge
On second thought you should know that amanos will not re produce in your setup
@@kjohnston1881 I'd even worry the water parameters may kill them. They can be quite sensitive.
RIP Crazy ant queen, she was so diligent
And original... shall be remembered
The toad was simply too powerful.
Waaaaayyyy too powerful ;) absolute vacuum cleaner
@@nordicants6232 just adds more salamnders?
@@3Clod a salamenders army :)
@@a_wolf8889 if 2 salamanders aren't enough and 1 toad is too much, I think 2 more might suffice
@@3Clod toad is invincible
The best fire salamander footage on the web. An hour long documentary flew right by. That's some quality stuff my friend!
Oh thank you so much for this man!!
One of the best tanks in the world , love it
Finally the nan is back
I'm very impressed by the self-contained ecosystem you've created. Have you ever had a major setback with it? I just found a bunch of mites in my 10 gallon terrarium and I'm afraid it's a death sentence for the current inhabitants.
Well the unhealthy pillbug increase definitely was a setback! Then I fear their immense decline because of the toad too. For the mites in your vivarium I am very sorry! Is you vivarium diverse enough? With dryer and wetter areas filled with either wood or stones etc? Diversification of environment always help with these kind of issues
Hypoaspis mites kill Fungus gnats, but they also kill springtails, so keep a colony of springtails on the side while you get rid of the fungus gnat and mite population :)
@@nordicants6232 put
Fight mite with mite
@@jasonperkins6912 you know what they say…mite is right
The Putin over the baby spider saying he will rule the world is hilariously relevant now.
Definitely would recommend adding more aquatic life such as filter/bottom feeders in your vivarium. Creatures like shrimp, oysters, and snails that’ll help keep the waters clean. Tho if you do that I’d recommend adding more decorations and aquatic plant life, especially grasses, to make the animals feel more comfortable and give them places to graze and hide. If you’re feeling bold enough you could even add a predator to your waters such as a crayfish, but that’s up to you as it might compete with your salamanders if they ever decide to enter the water.
*Overall great video! Very entertaining to watch and follow the full story of this vivarium.*
I think everything he gets in it is natural so adding a predator will mess up it
@@mindofhoes5821 that doesn't make sense though, it's not natural at all without predators... You can't have a functioning ecosystem without them, and those salamanders are predators themselves.
@@mindofhoes5821 he adds his own stuff too.
This is a very visual and great reminder that all species of life on earth really do depend on one another in some form or another, from tiny to massive. Our ecosystem is precious, and destroying it can have dire consequences (esp. for those further up the chain... like, humans.)
Really cool to watch, gorgeous environment. If I had the funds and the know how, id love to do this type of thing.
Exactly!! Thank you so much for the comment. Truly right :D
Duuuuuh
I'm starting my very own giant terrarium inspired by yours. So far it has baby crickets, wolf spider, wooly bear caterpillar, isopods, springtails, rando mites, house centipede, small slugs, small snails, ground beetles,Eastern bark centipede. As far as I know so far
Thats a lot of bugs!!! Damn very cool. What biome is it inspired by? What country? Sounds epic

@@nordicants6232 it's the us
It has 3 sections
Left side is very dry and filled with rocks
Middle is heavily planted with a log to hide under
Right side has 1 plant and s few branches to represent trees
Mites might be a big problem in your vivarium, be careful
@@nordicants6232 are you gonna place anymore amphibians mostly toads or frogs because that big one was doing pretty well in there or was it doing to well?
I love how the little snek eats. Politely takes a bite. No need to be fast with a worm. He's super cute and needs a name!
A distinguished gentleman, indeed.
JOE AND THE SNAKE IS BREWSTER
He is actually a glass lizard aka glass snake. Super cute lizard snake hybrid. Looks like a "Burt" to me
I think wanting to see the evolution of a great vivarium where a tadpole turns into a massive toad and when salamanders come together and mate or ant colonies come side by side in piece or when slime molds breath or small acorn ants forage and so much more is oddly specific
Indeed. But I only want a specific audience ;)
@@nordicants6232 and you got em !
9:57 The flies are Fungus Gnats.
19:36 Looks like it might be a tiger worm.
The Leopard slugs are my favorite species in your vivarium. It was cool to see them breed inside an enclosed space. It was also amazing to see it survive the salamander attack. I'd love to see you capture a video of them hunting prey. (They hunt other slugs.)
That would be really epic!! Love your videos Jartopia

nordic ant's vivarium videos are very different than a lot of the other vivarium videos out there and i really wish there was more of it. so many videos are about either making the vivarium or how it looks or the specific animals and plants added but nordic is the only one ive seen doing videos which really show the biologic processes that go on inside the micro-environment.
It's really inspiring me to create my own after a couple of years of learning
I was wondering where you disappeared to since YT stopped recommending me all your videos since I've watched them all, but man this is a blessing. Thank you for doing these, they're so creative and interesting and I just love watching them and having them in the background. How often does the Spring Tail/ Pill Bug population explode and overgrow? Do you just introduce a toad and then release it after the population stabilizes?
Thank you soso much!! And they usually overgrow when there isnt enough ants or other predators. For the toad this was a first, but hey it worked!! :D
He's back!!
Also, I recommend having a crayfish.
OMFG YOURE BACK
I started my own giant vivarium inspired by yours, and it’s doing great! Thanks for documenting yours.
Me too!!!!
I am so glad to hear this you guys!! What cool species do you have inside?? :o
@@nordicants6232 Lots of things. I’m in the northern US, so it’s a bit different from yours, but mostly similar species. I have several types of springtails, some isopods, lots of snails, slugs, and millipedes, American toads, lots of little spiders, harvestmen, dubia roaches, beetles, centipedes, and I don’t even know what else. I’m using mostly tropical plants, but I’ve added wild moss and leaf litter, and there’s a huge rotten tree trunk there too. I hope to add ants soon as well. All my colonies are still tiny though, so I’ll wait a while before I do. It’s still a very young vivarium, and the animals haven’t gotten fully established yet, but it’s off to a great start!
That is so amazing!!! Please if you want email photos or so to nordic.ants@gmail.com :D

The idea of having a perfectly natural looking ecosystem with a large variety of animals in a large glass tank, is the greatest thing ever to me.

The King is back
This tickles my brain in the right spot.
As someone who absolutely adores macrophotography and invertebrates in general I am glad this video ended up in my feed. I wish I had the time and resources to set up vivariums on the scale that you do as it is one of my passions and like so many other ant channels, your brand of humor is nice, too! You did a remarkable job with the size and scale of this vivarium.
Thank you so much!! Hope watching my videos helps a bit :D I hope you will manage to build one of these sometime!
@@nordicants6232 I busy myself for now going on trips to do macro where I can and have some jar terrariums but nothing bioactive yet, beyond two planted aquariums. But my SO and I are looking into buying our first home soon and then, then I have options!
This is just awesome. I mean many of the small animals usually are not that intereting as such. If i want to see a pillbug, i just go outside and lift a stone in the garden. But seeing you trying to achieve balance in a semi closed system is bloody fascinating! Because here you really see the cooperation of all the different species of bugs and critters that run mother nature. Everyone knows what happens with food that you just leave outside. But you managed to make it interesting. Great video, keep it up!
finally! i've been waiting soo long
Sorry :(
I like the “Jartopia” channel style where there is no talking and he actually just shows the different species in his terrariums with the name and description.
So we can focus on the wildlife and not a loud narrator.
I was not expecting much from this video I stumbled upon, but it was surprisingly entertaining and well made. Thank you for this content!
This is too cool.. and it inspired me to get started on my own vivarium! (With extensive research of course). Thanks so much for sharing..you rock. The way you talk is soothing and really entertaining to listen to as well. Loved your funny comments. Your personality came through a lot!!

OMFG your back I thought you were gone for good. I have created my own vivarium inspired by you! Great to have you back. Please stay now, we all need you!
Whatever happens, I will always come back :D thank you so much
Such an epic project. Well worth the wait between uploads.
I have a few questions.
1) Did you have the whole terarium made out of glass or did you have mesh anywhere?
2) How did you keep the bugs in if you had to open the terarium for the camera?
3) What lights do you use? Just normal led lights so you can see or UVB lights?
4) How big actually is the terarium?
5)Do you have the terarium inside of your house or outside? If inside in what room?
Those are all for now. I hope you'll answer. It would really help me build my own. Thank you, amazing video!
I don’t know how I haven’t stumbled across your channel before. Man you’re hilarious, and a pretty compelling storyteller
Thank you so much!!
I could watch these videos all day. Thanks for the awesome content!
Not sure if anyone has ID'd them for you yet, but the slime molds at the end were chocolate tube slimes (*Stemonitis splendens*). The coco-y powder along the strands formed after the slime dried out (sporangia) are the spores. Very neat to see them forming!
Underrated
You are what matters! Just love reading your comments :D
Finally
This is so good I just keep rewatching it.
I think it would be really cool to add maybe any of these;
Dragonflies, tree frogs, blood worms, shad (small fish), stag beetles, assassin bugs, cicadas, grasshopper/crickets, venus fly traps, preying mantis, stick bugs, land snails/underwater snails, mini catfish for underwater cleanups, if you really wanna get crazy, a freshwater stingray (although that might be too large / wipe out the underwater life).
I'd keep listing more off but those are the one's I think of off the top of my head.
Maybe a tiny dragonfly, but cicadas, no.
YEES YEES I’ve been waiting for this
:D me too, longing for updating so much
You should use a pond to separate two different sides of a vivarium. You could contain certain species on either side. Praying mantids are everywhere and are always interesting. Crayfish, shrimp and chameleons too
Tack så mycket. Om du släpper videos som den här på veckobasis, är jag övertygad om att du seglar om tönten och possören Bustos.
Tackar, tackar! Gillar Bustos dock men tackar!!! :D
Well done mate! Keep them videos rolling, love your content !
Brilliant work! Inspired me to try something similar. Also at 5:38 bottom left there is an armadillidium nasatum too. This just shows the incredible work you have put in and the vast amount of species in the tank

Damn bro, I missed you man, the legend have returned
I have missed this vivarium SO much, and I’m really happy to see it going strong and healthy. I shall miss Mr. Toad…but he was clearly a little too keen on his job, simply no sense of moderation. Loving the slow worm and the salamanders…their young will be fun to watch happen. Please come back soon with more of your delightful and funny tour guide banter…you were seriously missed, I was getting ready to call out the rescue team. I even feared that you might have fallen prey to the fire ants and the salamanders…possibly in league with the scorpion. You mustn’t worry us like that…stay safe.🖤🇨🇦
