The sad part of it is that in this jaded day and age, there is no demand for this style of Comedy, We buy $100 tickets to sit in seats for an hour or two and comedy is people talking,. To us, at us and about us. Comedy in words, meanings and inflections.
Harpo and Lucy spoke not a word, and yet they communicated more than you will ever hear from one of those $100 seats. Today. people would hear nothing, get bored, stand up and leave to get their money back. What you saw between Lucy and Harpo was Vaudeville from the turn of the 20th century. Now, in the 21st Century, Vaudeville is too sophisticated for today's jaded audiences. It's over their heads.

Murderville - the mirror scene is an homage to Groucho Marx in Duck Soup (1933) and Harpo Marx & Lucille Ball on I Love Lucy (1955).

It entertained me sixty years ago when I was a kid. It utterly astounds me now that I can appreciate more subtlety. Lucy was a mistress of comedy and so extremely talented, a nonesuch for all times, and a perfect complement to Harpo. What I was unable to appreciate at all sixty years ago was her repartee with Desi. ... Ethel isn't so bad either, no?

Believe me, if circumstances were different in the early 20th century, Harpo could have been a great silent movie star in comedy. Thanks for the era of that time where they were born and raised in NYC, my old hometown. By the way, if I am not mistaken the top hat Harpo wore came from when his parents were married from their wedding back in the 1890s. Most New Yorkers who went to church or synagogue wore it with their best suits.

Lucy and Harpo were awesome in this, thanks! The "mirror routine," made famous in The Marx Brothers' Duck Soup (1933), was in fact first performed by Max Linder in Seven Years Bad Luck (1921). It's also very good and maybe my favorite version?

I remember hearing of her death when I was listening to the radio in my office. I was among many who were devastated to hear of her death. Several years later I traveled to Jamestown NY to attend the Birthday Celebration Festival Weekend . I will never forget it. What a PHENOMENAL mini vacation with my mom. So much to see and do.
