The Stone Roses Made of Stone

I like it when Liam Gallagher says The Stone Roses are the best band to come out of Manchester. Praise indeed from a man of his confidence.
Reni is the glue that holds the Roses together, an absolutely incredible drummer and those harmonies 👌
I was lucky enough to see The Stone Roses play there last ever gig at Hampden park Glasgow back in 2017. It was the best gig i have ever been to. From syart to finish the crowd were absolutely bouncing. I will never ever forget that night as long as i live. Primal Scream were the support act. What a way to warm up before those opening moments of I wanna be adored when the crowd went ballistic.
That "Fools Gold" at Heaton Park!! Wow!!
The 3 people that have disliked this video obviously has no music taste what so ever!
Exactly 🤘
I was too old to truly appreciate this band & got here through drifting into Ian Brown’s solo work. Hearing the classic Stone Roses songs just now made me realise I hadn’t been too old, they were just part of my late 20s/early 30s instead of my teens. I miss our ordinary lives & the extraordinary times & people.
Can we have it all back please??
What a video! I've been learning Spanish for the past 3 and a half years. It's fantastic feeling understanding what's being said in both languages. Lucky to have introduced at least 3 people onto the Stone Roses over the years. Saw them at their final amazing gig at Hampden, what a day!
2024 still the best in the fucking world
At least _one_ of the very best ever.
It’s just such a shame they can’t get along. I don’t even know who can’t stand the other the most. Ian and John? Ian and Reni? Mani seems so cool he even gets along with his enemies so I can’t see him being any problem whatsoever.
It’s really a musical tragedy this band can’t get their sh!+ together. It’s bad enough we won’t hear the unbelievably talented drumming of Reni again (hope I’m wrong) but to know we’ll never get any new Roses is the worst. As corny as it may sound, they should have gotten a therapist like Metallica did. Therapy works if one puts I the effort. These guys needed it even more than Metallica did.
I absolutely loved the two new songs - especially Beautiful Thing. I think if they cut the crap and just grew the hell up they could’ve made an album just as good or even better than Second Coming (which I love).
It’s just so sad.
On the bright side, I’m loving Liam and John’s new songs. I really think Just Another Rainbow was a straight up new Roses song or at least a very slightly altered version of one.
It’d be amazing if Reni joined on the next Gallagher/Squire album.
@@beyondthehorizon75 agreed.
If like me you’d not quite sussed the deep liking for each other this group of men have, watch Reni as he queues Ian in perfectly at 20min 28sec. The look between them isn’t just professional understanding, it’s joy.
When you watch that Waterfall clip you realise how integral Reni is to the band. Effortlessly keeping the beat, perfect flourishes whilst also singing backing vox.
a millions miles away from the Uk, this band just rocked my world here in the middle of Canada. Loved see this film!!
Obligatory comment about Reni being an underrated drummer here!
His voice is angelic , listen to the backing
Heaton 2012
I was there.
My (not so) soon-to-be wife was there too.
My still-to-be-born babygirl was there.
I think my life peaked right there!
And the crowd was amazing and sang their lungs out and I was truly honored to have this experience with all of them.
Thanx Ian, Reni, Mani and John
I've owe you big time...
🙏🍋
(and thanx to Shane as well:-)
I love their early stuff as well. ‘ So Young ‘ and ‘ Tell Me ‘ are brilliant songs in my opinion. So different from what they would become, sound wise.
Every playlist i have has So young, Tell me and the Elephant Stone Demo
@@connorforsyth8492 excellent!! Good choices 👍👍
Agree, very sex pistols though
When they come on the stage at Spike Island the subtitles in this upload is ‘ retire, retire, retire now ‘said by Ian Brown. It’s actually time, time, time is now!!!
What a band! All I can say is - good on Reni for coming back and giving all those people joy.
She's not, she was great back in the day but they layed it on to be difficult. There's more to this interview after this clip when she says interview over and they start taking the piss out of her because they made her look stupid.
Best band ever imagine how big they would of been If there wasnt that gap in recording
The ‘ One Love ‘ single was a sample of what the album would have probably sounded like if they had started recording it just after Spike Island and the Glasgow green show. It’s a shame that they didn’t. Or weren’t able to.
would *have been
The court stuff with the record company fuck them up totally as a unit too much going on to concentrate writing songs plus other things like them all having starting a family they all drifted apart from each other
Then reni leaving was basically the end of the band
If I had 1 wish…………. but I can’t ever see it happening 🎸 🍋
Stone roses forever!
subscribe we hope your support
Great doc. The Roses are awesome. Love that John is really grumpy.
Documental increíble, muchas gracias por subirlo.
So so film, thx for the upload of it
Thanks for the upload.👏
Goosebumps.Just loved watching the bit where the band is playing at Razzmatazz in Barcelona. So many amazing bands i enjoyed seeing in there,so many great memories.
Thanks for sharing. Great to see. The Fools Gold live was really well edited and a moving rendition. Their music moves with the times. All the best to The Stone Roses.
Thanks for uploading this!
Thanks 4 the upload from argentina
Brilliant!! Ian brown is an absolute legend thank you for sharing that northern sole stone roses,
Just love Northern Lights, Ian Brown’s memory maybe of his Northern Soul days. I was a southern boy and of course missed it all, but we knew about it. It was unique. Never before or since.
thanks they are the best
I was so lucky to go to heaton park locked up at age of 20 missed out on spike Island this well made up for it because it was better😊❤🎉
thanks for posting
Que bonito es que esto esté en español
Sin dudas, es una de esas icónicas bandas que nunca fueron muy escuchadas en Latinoamérica, eso hace que sea un poco difícil encontrar material en español de ellos, esto es una verdadera maravilla 🍋
I thoroughly enjoyed this doco.
brilliant presentation that shane !
Gracias
Never got that new album, what a band
Shades of Alvin Lee 'Going Home' Ten Years After, guitar harmonics. Really tasty piece of work.
Thanks for uploading this! I've got it on dvd but who had a dvd player these days!?

Love the stones!!!
Absolute genius 👏
I met these Legends in a pub in West Didsbury called The Midland "Alfonso" used to run the joint. We came to grab some weed and saw these guys at the bar.... I got their Autograph on a pack of Marlboro cigs.... we even shared a blunt! Ian drank quadruply brandy and coke 😂🤣 ()______)____________***********
Picked up the baton The Beatles handed them. Should have been ever bigger.
That would be The La's more than SR, SR was never poppy enough to be that level as an act, they were always niche/alternative
@@Horizon344Made of Stone, Waterfall and She Bangs the Drums are very poppy.
We all can see that Liam got his attitude from Ian, no doubt what so ever....
Ian, and lydon
he'll be wanking himself silly now he's touring with John
Ian is just naturally cool Liam Gallagher tries to hard sometimes Ian just has it
I think they both pretty cool tbh
Liam doesn't need to be brought into this. Oasis and the stone roses are both great bands.
Made of Gold❤
Inhaled shed loads of Charlie!
The Planet of the Roses
Saw them at Spike Island ......but that fools gold was astounding.....reni and mani just sitting on the groove while chris rips it up....threw in a bit of ticket to ride and le freak in that mindblowing solo
*John *daytripper
Cubits my mistake...... the nile rogers quote was what really pricked my ears...... their were tons of others in that solo I half know too.....what a guitar player
And Squire showing that he truly is greatest guitarist of his generation!
It was worth the price of the admission at heaton park. Highlights for me were also the opening bass lines at the start of the gig. The crowd was so hyped up, just seeing the joy and people going wild, unforgettable. This is the one was great as well, but fools gold was something else. Honestly felt like my life had fallen into place after finally seeing them live, something just clicked in a good way. People used to say that about the doors, that getting to one of their gigs was like a defining moment in their life.
They wanna to be a door!
@@freespirit8243 No, its a play on words. I wanna be adored..

Not sure thatll take off motzart
Can we get a live album from this period or a Heaton park live album?
Id like to think theres more to the story than Reni leaving just cos of problems with his monitor
Reni never wanted Mega fame and he’d said that to the others. He might have been torn & then felt coerced. Technical difficulties was the final straw, maybe. Lovely guy, unbelievable drummer.
Best band 🍋🍋🍋
Why Did The Drummer Ruin It? We All Thought That John would chuck his toys out of the pram then him in the bucket hat does it. Oh well at least we got see them rehearse Waterfall together and we saw that magic of them in unison as The Stone Roses.
Reni didn't ruin it, he was nearly deaf through feedback( having been promised only the best technician's)so fucked off for a bit to calm down. Tour carried on absolutely fine with the four of them for a few more years after. No one and I mean no one hates on our Reni 😁🙌
Anyone know who is Reni imitating at 17:09 in?

(Interviewer) "Well, if you're the best band in the world why aren't your number one" 🙃
Did she Carry on working after this interview. ? Wow!!
It would be a huge surprise if she did!! That interview summed them up back then. Playing by their own rules, not playing the media game and coming across as cool as anything. Poor woman didn’t have a chance!! Or a clue!!

So much interesting stuff with this band and yet a documentary like this that should’ve been amazing ends up underwhelming. Wastes 20 minutes on fans queuing up for the show. I know the band likes to be cryptic but they should have spoken more. More comments, anecdotes etc. We should have heard from Andy Couzens, Pete Garner, Cressa and others.

The big gig at the end was an anticlimax, the vibe turned to shit halfway through shame really
I was there. It really didn't. The fireworks, the atmosphere, the people. It was a fucking great day out!
I think you're very wrong.
It was really something.
Really.
IF ONLY IAN WAS A GOOD SINGER LIVE
Bernard Sumner isn't too. New Order is a great band, what difference does it make?
You have no clue about music ,
If your slagging Ian brown of for his singing you’ve missed the point. Go and watch the X factor
Ian Brown has an aura, which means it’s not essential that he sings well live. These days, the audience does it for him. They love Ian Brown. As do I.
He is.
Zzzzz
Ian brown has to be one of the worst singers ever. Sounds like he cant even be bothered most of the time
That's rubbish pal, he's the daddy of Manchester
@@williambarrow7790 30 years ago maybe
He can definitely sing pal.
He sounds far better when he sings in studio and most roses songs the vocals are soft, which dosent suit a live setting of amps and guitars and crowds, I'm not saying he's as good as LG live but check out Glasgow green 1990 or live in Manchester 1989.
And yet he's still the fuckin greatest!
Compared to what though? Pavarotti? Being a great singer doesn’t mean being the perfect singer. Ian’s a great singer no one can do the Roses like Ian. Dylan wasn’t a “great” singer by most people standards but in my eyes he was a great singer.
Good to hear how Squire dialed his live guitar back to the sound of the early album and ditched the stupid hard rock styles and posturing he employed in the second coming album and tour and the later disaster of the seahorses.
While i dont love that seahorses album, find it souless, it was a huge commercial success.
Second Coming is a brilliant record and Squire was on fire around that time. Ok, may have gone too far with some songs but it's still a fantastic record
Bassist be looking like Mark Hamils long lost bastard son
