The biggest sin going against ridley is not finishing the prequels. You can make a trilogy that is bad, but what's worse is starting a trilogy and not even finishing it.
Blame disney for that sin , if it wasn't for them alien awakening would have happened. If awakening is ever made it will be dependent mainly on the success of this movie
Nah. The studios listen to some out of touch boomers (fans of alien 1986) and think it is the general opinion and main reason why the film performed badly. This happens with most franchises from the 80s.

Agreed. For better or worse, they should let Ridley finish the trilogy. It's stupid to think we might not ever find out what happened after Alien: Covenant, but Alien: Romulus links to Prometheus, which makes those films canon. I really hope they address this in the future.

Not making a sequel to Covenant, to finish off the prequel trilogy, because of Covenants takings just goes to show that Hollywood is a business and not about artistic creativity and integrity.

I love the two prequels and it really stings not to have the final connection to the originals.

I want to see the Engineers going after David after he destroyed the entire planet, I want to know what David did with the colonists, did he create more Xeno creations? And who left that Juggernaunt abandoned in LV426? Could David have something to do with this too? We want to know, don't spend money on parallel or alternative films, for the love of God...
Ridley swallowed his nuts. From here on in, expect more of the same disconnected branch offs. Most likely always a new crew on a new mission and they'll make another 27 of these Aliens chase humans all over a ship, like that hasn't already done a billion times and here we get yet another. They'll ruin the franchise which was already hanging by a thread, like what happened to Terminator which should have been concluded properly at T2.
Ridley won't finish the prequels. Fassbender's getting old as shit anyway. They'd need to de-age him now. Such a shame they could have linked a third movie of the prequels that tied into the original Alien movie. Would have liked the engineers story and involvement to have been concluded here since they regret even having an engineer story line. At least intelligently try to conclude it in a third and final prequel that would at least shut a lot of people up, myself included.
I seriously dislike an unfinished prequel trilogy. That's just lame.

You posted this comment months before Romulus released. And now that it's out, you are and were correct. It's just alien chase crew on ship, give or take a few details. Lol.
Albeit there's a few references and similarities, there isn't really a straight up connection to Prometheus. You're right also in that they can now milk this puppy for years. Alien is so easy to repeat over and over again with different stories that all basically do the same thing. I admit that Prometheus and Covenant were "bad" films, but the story needs finished and at this point it never will be.
It would be so cool get closure on David's storyline, i think it would of been a brilliant ending with David, the Engineers and humans all colliding. David is such a great character, played brilliantly by Fassbender
There were signs in the original Alien, that the juggernaut ship had been crashed on LV-426 for a long period of time, for like centuries if not thousands of years. Dallas mentioned something about this. This is one of the aspects that contradict with the timeline of Prometheus and Covenant and so, it breaks the connection between the prequels and the original Alien.

I think this is it. If Romulus does well and Alien TV show we might get Awakening and more sequels. Otherwise, Alien franchise will be kaput 😢😢. It took 7 years to make another Alien movie minus 2 year pandemic 5 years. Ok couple Alien games, I hope Alien will be strong. And I hope James Cameron can do another one.
Alien is the highest grossing horror franchise of all time, and it's disney's only horror/R rated universe. I think it'll be fine. Alien will go on until it's mass produced schlock
While i'm not really a fan of the decisions that ridley scott made, I also want to see the prequel story finished as well. We already have 2 out of the 3 movies. Hopefully, romulus does well, and the studio decides to revisit and let ridley finish the trilogy. I'll be voting with my wallet by seeing romulus in the theaters. I'm optimistic for the future of the franchise.
The prequel trilogy is dead. If Romulus is a hit they will want more from Fede, not go back to Scott’s prequels which already failed.
It will happen. A novel. A cartoon. An HBO show. I’m starting to believe Ridley Scott is making all this other stuff, or producing these other shows, to make more Alien related movies. Also, Raised by Wolves would’ve fit perfectly into the Ridleyverse.

Yes, you wanna give the audience something they'd like to see. But at the same time, what if what they'd like to see sounds good only in their heads and not so good in execution?
It's the same issue with George Lucas when he made the _Star Wars_ prequels- his unfiltered ideas are what were on the screen and those movies suffered for it.
And back then, when the first _Alien_ came out, no one cared about what they wanted to see. They just went into it completely blind.
It's pretty obvious what happened isn't it? Covenant didn't make enough money and the studio got cold feet on the whole thing.

In my opinion, Ridley Scott should complete the alien covenant sequel as the final alien movie about David and engineers. Fede Alvarez will now have the wheel to make more alien films because it was really good.

I'd prefer if the crashed ship has nothing to do with David8 and that mystery would remain unsolved. The mystery of the Covenant and what happened to David8 can be explored however.
It could have been explained succesfully. Any answer would have been better than "Humans did android, android did aliens". A lovecraftian explanation, a non-supernatural extraterrestrial explanation, natural origins in ahostile alien planet and a thousand more. Anything but "humans did it, and quite recently". Ridley Scott must be the only person on Earth who watched the original Alien, saw giant fossilized biomecanical pilot and the black, eyeless, murderous space creature and thought "Yeah, this is TOTALLY about androids and the relationship between creator and created".
What happened? I’ll tell you what happened. Ridley Scott jumped the shark, and Disney pulled the plug before he could do any more damage. If you want more Alien movies, you’re going to have to get comfortable with distancing RS from the franchise.
I don't want "more Alien movies" (if they are bad, like Romulus)...I want more of Ridley Scott's vision! He is brilliant, but too visionary for a popcorn-munching audience. That's always been the thing with him. He's a genius like Kubrick, but he's always worked within the studio system making movies for mainstream audiences. Big conflict of instinct and expectations ensues.
Covenant reminded me of a Hammer Frankenstein movie.
I need more Prometheus and Covenant! That storyline is a million times better, it has depth, it has David! Much more meaningful story, with great philosophical questions
Too bad I really want a well written conversation of David and the engineers about everything. Like "your creation created me in their image just like how you design humans, now I recreated your god in my image ( david version of aliens ) to destroy you (david threatening the engineers).
Also how does the engineers really percieve Artificial Intelligence as a whole. As advanced as they are I'm sure they came up with the same tech at some point but it seems they abandoned it completely.

It's not an origin story of the alien. The space jockey was ancient enough to have been petrified. It was also 3 times the height of the Engineers. If David made the alien he would have needed to have also have invented Time Travel and dressed a giant in Engineer style clothing.
Yeah it was pretty clear David reverse engineered the egg during his experiments. The facehugger and xenomorph in Covenant weren’t the first ever ones to be created.

I do hope that Covenant gets a sequel. Although the two Prometheus films have some inconsistencies, Overall they are pretty well written stories. While the first is very much a narative driven storyline and a sort of world building prologue, Covenant is very much like the first chapter of the series as a whole. while Alien 1979 acts like a third chapter. We really need that second chapter, if anything to complete the trilogy and allow the Alien saga to be fully realized. The first Alien film can obviously exist on its own, but for the sake of a proper narrative, Ridley Scott give the reigns of this unmade chapter to a skilled horror director.
My recommendation, Lee Cronin who I feel has proven he has the eye for Horror and suspense.
Anyways this is all just my humble opinion 🙏

It was implied Walter hesitated when he had the chance to kill David, and David killed him. We didn’t need to be shown it happening onscreen.

Prometheus was only 30 years before the events of Alien that's a plot hole, because the crashed derelict is described as a fossilized ship, which beyond exceeds way before 30 years.
Thats not a plot hole. This only indicates that the Alien is indeed a very old creature and David Re-created it. Not create it. The murals in Prometheus also showed that. It makes perfect sense
David had nothing to do with the space jockey pilot nor recreating it. Stop slobbering all over a robot. They are a civilization considered to be very ancient. Also, if you pay attention during the commentary of Alien. Ridley said the creature, and the derelict was there for a very long time, perhaps over a thousand years, because the derelict along with the creature became fossilized. @@collecting2131 It means that the derelict and the Space Jockey were in LV-426 for maybe hundreds of thousands or millions of years due to the creature being fossilized along with the derelict. The outward explosion shows that a facehugger attacked the being, and maybe the reason it crashed landed on LV-426. Said by *Ridley Scott* so I disagree with you. It is what it is.
I think iths a shame they dont consider thr fan base of this series. Of course some people claim only the original movie was good and ahowing that the xenomorph is actually made by a vengful , fanatical "brokoen" android is taking away the mistery it kind of showes that it isn't a monster story but rather the mosnter within story and in some ways it is scarier. I personally think Fassbender wad great in the role and although Covenant wasn't hat amazing it had good ideas and the "twin" role was really done perfectly. In a way the ending without an ending is very ominous, the fact that we may necer know what happend to Daniels and the Colonists....but a storyline where David is actuallly playing doctor Mengele and then is found by the Engineers and Daniels finds and allie in one of them would be fun I think and would vomtinue Ripleys legacy of badass female. On the other hand having read Alien Isolation, Alien river of Pain and otgers i think there was promosing potential in making those into movies. A story line betweeen yhe two main canon movies seems unnessary if its not connected to any of the known characters. But we'll see.

It's not that sequel. Because the original plan was to have AC sequel lead into ALIEN.
Romulus takes place *after Alien* not before it.

after all Aliens sequels aren't always what they originally planned they'd be, and can change from the original concept since even Alien 3, for example had changed a lot from the original concept... Resurrection was just a rehash of the Music of the Spears novel, with a very disappointing ending... Prometheus I believed had a few changes from original planned concept... and Covenant wasn't originally supposed to be the way it turned out, Shaw wasn't originally slated to die...

It would be nice idea to release the original in the form of a comic or novel like they did a few years ago with one of the original screenplays for Alien 3.
Then atleast the fans who enjoyed Covenant will get some closure. I personally enjoyed it for what it was, but I can’t say it was my favorite cause the story left me with a lot of questions and things I only learned months later from deleted scenes

Definitely would be a good idea. They also did that with alien the original screenplay. I like seeing how the film differs from original drafts.
Alien didn’t need a prequel in my opinion, it should’ve stayed a mystery. Leave what happened before the first movie up to the fans to think about.

Prometheus wasn't a good movie but the script and the story was interesting, seeing them finish that story with the origins of the alien and , mystery of the engineers ,i feel like ridley scott ,know what story he wanted to tell and the studio's just said naw fck it

God Ridley was just high off his own farts. He could have just done a one and done and ended it like rogue one ended. Or just make a 2 parter and back door it to alien again like rogue one ending going into a new hope.

That's the problem with any source of media. You cannot please everyone.
Those fanboys are a loud minority but it is ultimately the stupid executives who go on some reddit page or read some dubious critic websites and make bad decisions based on it. In my household, I am the only person interested in Alien. No matter how i try to sell to relatives or friends they refuse to see it but the same people would rather play dead space. The problem with alien is not the lack of pandering to old boomers and the colonial marines nonsense. The problem is the format. This franchise cannot sell well as movies but rather as horror videogames (not the boring alien isolation crap).

But at least he tried something new. Imagine repeating ALIEN for every movie, that would be too repetitive. I can understand if all some fans want is the same "Horror Formula". But you will always have some fans that want something new.
