Jason Kidd's beef with Jim Jackson involved Jamal Mashburn and a big Toni Braxton myth

  • Jason Kidd, Jamal Mashburn, and Jim Jackson could have formed the offensive trio that launched the Dallas Mavericks to new heights in the early 90s. Instead, mismanagement by coaching, internal strife, and one incredibly persistent but untrue rumor about Toni Braxton left Dallas in the position of trading all three of these young stars.

      +Devin Williams> Didn't Dallas strike first? They started getting good again in those days when the Mavs took Michael Finley from the Suns and a year or two later Steve Nash also from the Suns. Thus their core guards then came from the Suns. They pimped the Suns out their coach too----- Nelly Jr. who eventually became GM who years later would take Dirk and more recently Luka. Shawn Marion (no PG of course) helped the Mavs win a championship. He didn't go directly to the Mavs, but was out of Phoenix for only a year I believe before he went to Dallas. If Dallas hadn't pimped the Suns first these players and coach including Dirk and currently Luka may have never seen a Mav uniform.

      He was a lot like Carmelo.....just a pure scorer that cared only about 1 on 1 scoring with no defense.

    Lol wtf? Why do I feel like guys from that era are way more selfish? I can't see any rookie or young guys feuding like that or having egos like that in today's game. Uh, doesn't teamwork win games?

      It's always the ones that were pretty good but not great like Latrell Spreewell. They always are way too high on themselves.

      Back in those days, it was blamed on "too much too soon". Nowadays, with rookie scale, it's a lot easier to have a guy like Jim Jackson just drummed out of the league without exploding a team's salary cap. Jackson today would be parked in the G-League or stuck at the end of the bench.

    The excitement for the Kidd-Jackson-Mashburn trio back then reminds me of the excitement for the Lakers' Ball-Ingram-Kuzma trio now.
    Hopefully, they don't start beefing down the line.

      @SimuLord Před 6 lety +6

      I don't think Lonzo will beef with Kuzma. LaVar might though, because Kuzma's a real-deal emerging star and LaVar's ego won't be able to stomach Lonzo not being treated like he's Magic Johnson.
