  • Since the Revised Edition of Arkham Horror The Card Game was just released, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at how it compares to the Original Version that's been out since 2016.
    A great big thanks to Board Games N More who were nice enough to provide me with a copy of Arkham Horror The Card Game: Revised Edition. You can order your own copy directly from them:

    About the game...
    "The boundaries between worlds have drawn perilously thin…
    Arkham Horror: The Card Game is a cooperative Living Card Game® set amid a backdrop of Lovecraftian horror. As the Ancient Ones seek entry to our world, one to two investigators (or up to four with two Core Sets) work to unravel arcane mysteries and conspiracies.
    Their efforts determine not only the course of your game, but carry forward throughout whole campaigns, challenging them to overcome their personal demons even as Arkham Horror: The Card Game blurs the distinction between the card game and roleplaying experiences."

    Thanks for this. I never really got into the LGC and wondered if the new box would help. Either way I now know I prefer the old artwork so I'll hang on to my original box. Might get the revised version at some point and see if it sparks new interest in the game for me.

    9:19 oh wow! this is handy, having 5 pre-assembled decks - I'm not great at making my own decks, I'm relatively new at the game, so for ppl just starting out this is a must! - it was a huge toss up for me between pre-ordering the two dunwich boxes (revised edition), or getting the original sets. I already had the original dunwich box but no mythos sets so I ended up getting the original mythos sets and the long box(return to dunwich) - this cost me $50au extra to do unfortunately but saved me having double ups. But from this point forward I will definitely try to get the other 'new' expansion boxes over the mythos sets, finding them online is getting harder and harder, buying all in one box is a much better option.

    Glad I kept my two copies of the original core set. In EVERY instance of the different cards shown in the new set, I much prefer the art of the old edition by far.
    As to the “chaos bag”, I prefer my large Crown Royal bag to that smaller Chaos Bag.
    As to the larger box for storage, I already have a custom wooden box, so no gain there.
    The only things I see different that I like are the First Player Token and the “3” and “5” count Resource, Horror, and Damage Tokens. I’ll pick these up separately somewhere online.
    Carry on….🫡

    I’ve had a single original core set for about a year and hated the idea that I would need to buy a second core set. But I just bought a copy of the revised core set and I don’t regret it. Especially since the revised version has the same number of cards as 2 core sets, and some updates. I’m going to keep my old core set just for the art differences.

    I didn't get very deep into the original AH LCG, but for some reason I decided to order the revised core set and the Edge of Earth Campaign and Investigators. Technically I didn't need the revised set but I did want the improved rulebooks and additional components. Basically what you said and a fresh start for me. We'll see how it goes but I know AH LCG is very popular. Regarding your comments on the token bag. I'm in the US and generally get token bags imported from Canada. They say "Crown Royal" on them. The bags are quite expensive but they come with a free bottle of whiskey.

      One of the problem I had with the original game is how you get the deck you want really fast, too fast. So you continue playing with the same deck but there's no reason to upgrade your deck anymore... Which makes the game a bit boring even if there are more scenarios/campaigns.

      @BoardontheFloor  Před 2 lety +3

      The cost to really get into any of these card games is ridiculous. The number of expansions for AH: TCG will cost you upwards of $500 to get them all, if you can even find them. Though, that being said, it is an immersive and extremely rewarding experience, if this is your kinda thing.

      I don’t think the material is of poor quality. I’m quite happy with the revised edition and the “quality of life” upgrades that Fantasy Flight has provided. I’m just annoyed at how much it would cost to get all of the content that is available. Though I think their new approach to releases the campaigns in one box with the investigators in a separate box is a more appropriate (and cheaper for the consumer) way to go.

      @garytheosophilus Před 2 lety +2

      Some good deals on eBay from people recycling their game collections. I recommend not paying more than 40% of the price available to you for the AH revised core. Later, consider buying the new Dunwich Legacy investigators expansion and skipping the new Dunwich Legacy campaign expansion (unless you find the old deluxe expansion plus six mythos packs at a good price). Because, like the Shadows of Mirkwood cycle for LOTR, the Dunwich scenarios aren’t as good as those that come later. You can always pick up the campaign expansion later if you want to collect everything. At current market prices, it appears that buying the new investigator and campaign expansions will be less expensive than the old deluxe expansion plus six mythos packs were originally sold for (also avoids the headache of tracking down the separate releases and paying inflated prices for out of print items).

      @@BoardontheFloor let's see it from an other angle.
      There is someone that has bought the first core ed. Saying about 40$. (with its flaws).
      Now he has to give about 60$ to get the second one (with its additions).
      Now he is having two games, one of them not to be played any more, for about 100$......right?
      There is a second person that gets only the new core edition for 60$. He gets the game as it should have originally released from the first time for 20$ more. It's like getting the first one 40$, + a used one for 20$. Same price at the end. 60$.
      Only with a bag and some corrections in the books (?).....
      So in the bottom line, seems like you are getting a card game for 60$.....
      And that's overpriced to me.
      And there is an other person that will get two used first core boxes for about 20$ each giving only 40$......
      Seems like a good deal to me....
      But everybody is free to do what he wants.

    • @BoardontheFloor
      @BoardontheFloor  Před 2 lety +2

      90% of my games have been purchased used so I totally see your angle. And I don’t disagree. Games are getting pricier though I do think that publishers are starting to understand the audience more and at least some of these design changes are moving in the right direction. Marvel Champions seems to be where Fantasy Flight wants to go, which seems to be a good idea, but that won’t stop them from charging a lot of money for what is essentially a card game. All of these LCG will end up costing you tons of money whether or not the core set does.
