It was a very special era, and I feel so sorry for the kids of today; they have no idea how amazing music, movies, fashion, and just how wonderful it was back then. Just hanging out at the mall and arcade was like Disney World. I miss those days.🥰 Oh, and I can't forget Michael Jackson ruled back then. No matter where you went, you would hear or see someone wearing MJ. The malls were almost completely decorated in MJ. I remember the complete upstairs of Sears was nothing but MJ merch. They even had The Making Of Thriller playing on loop. I was lucky to look like Michael, even dressed like him. It gave me a huge advantage when it came to the girls. They absolutely adored me. 🥰

Although I'm a 90s kid (born in 88) I believe the 80s and 90s were the best decades. Theres no comparison to how much fun you had. The narrator is spot on about how you just knocked on peoples doors and everyone were so welcoming. The more we humans advance with technology the more we lose basic morals, deeds care for other people. In them says it was about looking after everyone. Your whole area felt like a big family. Nowadyas it's all about selfishness. Me me and me!

That’s so true! I was born in 2010 and I literally spend most of my time on my phone, even in the summer. The only thing that got my outside much recently except for school and occasional clubs was outdoor plays with a local company (so much fun! We hardly ever go on our phones, instead play card games or tag during breaks or intervals and everyone there is so local and friendly, it reminds me of this video a bit) I love 80s music and I wish I lived back then sometimes. I’ve noticed how quick our generation has grown up (not matured per se, just act like adults, like they had no childhood :( ) and of course I’ve been a “victim” to it as well. Well, I just thought that was kind of interesting. I’m planing to have a more fun summer this year, instead of watching CZcams all day, going out with friends or doing the stuff mentioned in this video. It’s just sad everything is a bit different now. I’m sure there are some upsides to nowadays, I don’t know if that makes sense… yeah 😅 have a nice day!

The 1990s and Early to Mid 2000s (before 2007) were the last times anyone wanted to go outside and have fun. But once the smartphones came around no one ever wanted to go outside and by the 2010s pretty much outside was just not as fun anymore as the 1950s - 2000s once did. Thankfully we have videos like these to remind us of a time when it was simpler and not so chaotic as it is nowadays.

Up in Washington Heights in the early to mid-80s, we had Barb-b-que'd hot dogs and burgers, DJ's playing all kinds of music, hanging off the traffic lights and then sitting up on top and we even had these HUGE rented trucks come over with ladders leading up to a pool on top. No violence, no danger, just lots of fun and hanging out with your neighbors til sundown. Can't do those anymore. Us Gen-X kids had the best childhoods. I was born at the absolute perfect time to be an '80s kid. I was 7 when the decade started and 17 when it ended. I remember doing most things on here. I couldn't help but remember that ALL my favorite memories from then occurred when I was outside!!! As with most kids then, we ran the streets. Whether it was going to the local pool, playing football, soccer, or baseball. We was always on the move. The only time we was indoors was when someone had a basement party. Now, kids need to be dragged outside. It's like they can't miss a moment away from their games or phones. And while we probably lived a more dangerous life, I think the fact that we were experiencing more socially, and on person, we made lifelong memories. Today's youth only have the repetition of doing the same exact thing daily. I just can't help but feel their missing out on life.

While the internet has made it easier to communicate, it's made it harder for kids, cause if your talking to people from just say England, I think it takes away from the fascination of actual going there and experiencing it in person. I can't help but feel sorry for them, knowing just how much they're missing out on.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Growing up in the 80's and early 90's, I did a lot of these things during my summers. My favorite was riding my bike, running to catch the ice cream man, and going to the public pool with my family.

I got a concussion when I was a year and a half old, I went down the metal slide standing up and hit my head on the concrete base at the bottom of the slide at the park at the end of my home's street. My aunt ran crying with me in her arms up to my parents house.

I got a gravel rash all over me riding my bmx down a steep slope and fell off halfway down lol. Then I just missed hitting my head on a huge rock by about 1 inch. Crazy things you did back then but then you got straight back on the bike the very next day to make sure this time you made it all the way Down the same hill without falling off lol.

Thank you for watching and sharing some of your memories. The only concrete I ever saw around slides is where the poles were. Everyone wore down the ground and after rains water would accumulate at the base. That was a whole other game. Who could slide down and avoid the water. Painful injuries definitely seemed to be part of the childhood experience back then. Thank you for watching!

One of our favorite things to do in the summer was to climb on top of single story houses and watch the stars. Or having the entire neighborhood play rounds of Baseball. Roller skating or roller blading down steep hills on our bikes. I was born in ‘81. I truly miss these memories.

Great stuff man. I was born in 83 so that means im turning the big 40 this December. I remember those summers like they were yesterday though. One thing we used to do that you left out was playing in the woods all day long haha. Finding vines to swing from and creeks to follow. When you were in the woods it felt like you were in your own world. Im almost sure kids dont do that now haha.

I was born in 74 and man I miss the 80's I had so much fun back then as a kid and watching this video just brought back a bunch of flash backs of those fun times. I've done pretty much everything except the crazy stunts on the bike I was too much of a chicken lol. But about 20 years ago I had a honda dirt bike and I did some of those crazy stunts but I had full protective gear a helmet and chest protector and knee pads.

I was 6 in 1980.. most summers of early eighties were spent with my parents going on family visits or going on trips with our uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.. the whole bunch. Or playing baseball at the playground. We looked up to the US in our neighborhood. We all had dirt bikes we had seen in the movie ET. After '86 we had our VCR and rented movies. Remember watching Mad Max, The Emerald Forest, Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Jaws, Superman, Indiana Jones.. Those were golden days..
On tv there was Buck Rogers, Taxi, Different Strokes, Wonder Woman, Thunder Birds, The Incredible Hulk, Mathew Star
Cheers, Chips, A team, Knight Rider, Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, In The Heat of The Night ..
and i could name so many more it was too good to be true almost.
I will shut up now ! Great Video, love it.. you nailed those 80s
