    Love mine. My favourite cars of all time...I have a ‘96 2.3 petrol and ‘95 diesel, both estates, both turbo. The petrol is mint at 80k miles and the diesel very well loved at 283k, and an ongoing rolling resto. Both drive like champs and just keep on plugging away. Have owned seven 2/7/900 series Volvos over the years with a combined mileage of over 1.2 million miles. None of them have ever let me down or failed to complete a journey. Incredible cars!

    I have a dent in the same place on my '97 Classic' bonnet as well.
    Back in 2007, I was showing how strong it was, compared to my 740GL, by sitting on it. I then realised, the bonnet wasnt as strong as the 740 model bonnet...LOL.
    But it has been the best car I've ever owned, 80k miles to 141k in fifteen years.
    Rust will need sorting underneath, but she does keep on going and that self-levelling suspension is just sublime.

    Its not a "940 Turbo Classic", its a "940 classic". The Engine is a low pressure Turbo (LPT) engine, the "Turbo" models have the HPT engine. The main difference is the waste gate actuator, and boost gauge. Although if someone has fitted a boost gauge its likely they have fitted either the HPT actuator or a bleed valve. What boost are you getting? 4.5psi for LPT (135hp) , 7.5 for HPT (165hp), you can easily take it to 11 (200) with no mods.

    • @SimpsonsClassics

      That it is 👏well officially it’s a LPT but runs much higher boost levels and is fitted with a aftermarket boost gauge

    • @tonystanley5337
      @tonystanley5337 Před rokem

      @@SimpsonsClassics The LPT actuator isn't stable at HPT or overboost levels using a bleed valve. Best to use an aftermarket actuator set for 10psi or so.

    I've got a 945 2.3 LPT "R" reg, low mileage, manual, one owner from new. She doesn't like starting on even a slight incline when the engine is hot - judders badly, even at 700-1000 rpm. Can be very trying during a long trip if I hit motorway start/stop congestion. But fine in reverse. No clutch slippage (I've never worn out a clutch), and perfect on gear changes. No oil leaks from clutch housing, crankcase breather checked and clear. Had this tendency for years, but now getting on my nerves!. Otherwise a great performer on 99 octane (minimum "E"), perfect emissions on test, 32 mpg on long trips, and a nice little bit of oversteer with tweaked tyre pressures. Anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas? I really need to get it sorted!!

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  Před 2 lety

      Hey it’s nice to hear someone else with a 940. As for your issue it sounds like a fuel issue. I have heard this happen with the fuel pressure regulator that sits right at front of fuel rail. Pull the vac pipe off the front if there is fuel in there then that might be your issue. The similar thing happened to a buddy of mine and this was the fault when parked on a hill or on cold start 👍

    • @cricciethcastle5077
      @cricciethcastle5077 Před 2 lety

      @@SimpsonsClassics Thank you!! I'll investigate this. Have to fix it because there's no way I'm ever letting her go. I wondered about the fuel side, because a while back, when checking the crankcase breather, I found that the rubber hose from the top of the breather box to the inlet manifold had come off (rubber hardened), so I fitted a new longer rubber tube and this seemed to fix the problem. So maybe mixture etc is marginal, and temperature would probably be a factor. On this last trip, I had to put in half a tank of E10, and that may not have helped. .Best wishes - great channel!!

    • @cricciethcastle5077
      @cricciethcastle5077 Před 2 lety +1

      @@SimpsonsClassics I think we may have fixed this. FPR was OK. But my garage changed the fluid in the clutch hydraulic system, and they found air in it. The clutch engagement is heaps better, so hopefully that was the reason. Makes sense re worse when hot - air expanding in system. Interesting that the Volvo service sheet says at 10,000 miles "Check/Report" for both "Clutch hydraulic system" and "Brake hydraulic system" (whatever "Check/Report" means!). Also every 2 years "Renew Brake hydraulic fluid", but no mention of Renew for Clutch hydraulic fluid, and IMO we should do that every 2 years as well. Could have saved me years of poor/worrying handling!
