Welcome to Building Modern! In this episode, join us as we embark on a resourceful journey to create a functional ramp using leftover materials and scraps. We'll take you through the process step by step, demonstrating how a bit of ingenuity can lead to accessible brilliance. From design to construction, witness our DIY skills in action as a couple as we turn ordinary materials into a practical solution.
Quick note - we realize a 6:12 pitch is really steep for a ramp! It's recommended to go with 2:12 for most ramps - we weren't sure we'd have the space for this - we may fur it out at a later time closer to 3:12 or 4:12.
In this build, we also use a technique we saw on @PerkinsBuilderBrothers that they use for their stairs. It's the best idea we've seen for making it work on a slope - thanks guys!
Building Modern is all about making the most of available resources, and this ramp project is a testament to our commitment to creative problem-solving. Whether you're a seasoned DIY enthusiast or just curious about accessible design, this episode has something for everyone.

Hey everyone - thanks for watching!! If you haven’t already, please subscribe - we have many more videos on the way! Let us know if you have any questions, and we’d love to hear from you and know what you think of our build. Cheers!!
Oh, and - quick note - we might end up furring out the ramp closer to a 4:12 pitch. Ramps are recommended to be 2:12 - at 6:12, it’s fairly steep. Fyi. 🙂

if you added a bit of a pitched landing it might feel less steep? also you could rip some 1" x 1/2" strips of ply and fasten them along the seams of the boards for more of an aggressive grip

Thanks! We’re thinking just to take off the 2x10 boards, make angled furring strips to get to a 4:12 pitch, and then re-attach the 2x10’s. As it is, it works great, it’s just a little steep 😅
Still though, one project done! Only thing left for the shed are the doors!! 🥳🥳🥳
