  • Let's talk about romance on the continent. Of course this is based on my personal experience, as well as from information I've gathered while living abroad.
P.S. please don't make sweeping assumptions about people you may encounter in Africa based on any stereotypes you may hear, good or bad. Visit and see for yourself.

Americans could date so many women in Namibia because I think the Namibian country is influenced allot by American CZcamsrs. I'm Namibian and I would never get married to anyone over here, especially not Otjiwambo or Otjiherero men. So now I'm planning to live my life as a eunuch, and it's awesome. We as Africans have always been going out with our significant others on dates and gifts etc it’s not a western thing for us it’s just what we’ve always done . As an African based in the US I wish you would have touched on the topic of finances and the AA 50/50 thing as compared to Africa where men are providers no question or negotiation about it.

Yes, as an African American woman dating is confusing. Growing up we are taught, men pays for dates and women cooks. But now African American men want women to pay half for dates, but then I went on a date and tried to give the guy money, he was offended. However he was Jamaican American and said he’s the man, so he pays. It’s so many rules. Confusing.

Tbh I think it’s not even about the color of the skin. US is just a shitty country when it comes to society. Racism, democrats vs Republicans, men vs women, etc etc. People are literally extremely divided and opposed. Like someone grabs you and says “you must choose your team right now, there’s a war coming”. I’m white (Eastern Europe, we never had black slaves btw) and I’m dating a girl from Kenya and everything you said kinda applies to my experience as well. People in Africa just don’t seem to care much about the color of the skin, they either like you or dislike you for who you are. Malaria isn't an issue in most of Namibia. It is only a problem in the north. Windhoek and Swakopmund don't have malaria, so you don't have to worry. I did have a yellow fever shot, but they didn't ask for it. If you're coming from the US, you don't need to show one. However, if you leave Namibia, some countries may ask, but I don't think you need one for Namibia at all.

Of course what you hear depends on which tribe you are more closed to Anton. If you date a nama/damara you will hear much about wamboes, things I will not mention here. I knew what you would say about damara/nama the moment you said you are dating a wambo. If you do a little research of your own you will find out that most romance killings are happening in the north or even if it happens anywhere in Namibia it is wambo men killing their partners. Should we say from those statistics that wambo relationships always ends up in murder. As I mentioned, what you hear about any Namibian tribe depends on which tribe you are closed to. @@AntonsClass There are three groups of mixed people in Namibia. (1) There are Cape coloured who migrated from South Africa, but did not join the Baster community/nation. They are the ones who opted to settle in townships such as Narraville in Walvis Bay and Khomasdal in Windhoek. Most of them can trace their heritage to the Cape Colony. (2) There are the Basters who also migrated early from South Africa and formed their own community/nation in central Namibia. They have a history of engageing with the Germans, South Africans and Nama/Damaras more indipendently, and they had their own laws/institutions. They were also the only mixed/afrikaans speaking homeland in SWA/SA during apartheid. They are distinct in that they maintain a lot of their old culture and paternal Calvinist traditions. (3) You have Namibian coloureds who can trace their heritage to mixed race people from the German colonial period, mixed people who came to Namibia via the Doorsland Trek, and biracial couples in Namibia. Additionally it's worth mentioning that Namas have some European/Asian admixture because the Oorlams, who were a of mixed descent, were assimilated with the wider Nama community. Most Nama speak Afrikaans fluently and about 20 % of them speak it as their first language. The Namas are distinct from most other black people in Namibia in that they're Khoisan, which is also makes up the plurality of most coloured peoples' ethnic bakground. They're not considered to be mixed, despite their lighter pigmentation.

Just because someone looks african phenotype doesn't result in better outcomes for relationships between African descent persons and Africans.
One has to consider the differences in values, goals and cultures . These factors play a huge partin the success of relationships in general.
I don't beleive Anton got extra attention in Africa because of his looks; I think the women saw a foreigner and possibly a green card.
I know there may be sincere people in these countries but the impression I get is that most people in Africa want to get out of there and live in the Western countries like the USA and Europe.
I am just saying that persons should be cautious and deduce the true agenda of potential romantic partners.

You do realize that women historically, follow the lead of their man anywhere? When wars happened women HAD to be flexible to adopt a new culture when all the men of her own culture are gone. Foreign women world wide are easier to accept into a society than a foreign man. Women traditionally took the last name of her husband's family, not the reverse. A foreign woman is NOT expected to pay a 'bride price' anywhere on Earth.
Now flip the script, a foreign man is EXPECTED to have resources. He is EXPECTED to lead. EXPECTED to have a plan.
So yes, a foreign man of any means who isn't extremely young, is less likely to want to essentially start from scratch in a village in the middle of nowhere that he is fully unfamiliar with, where he can't possibly be a leader and would need to begin in a 'student' role.
