Thanks so much for making such a detailed video on painting with chalk paint! I appreciate how you explained exactly the process and products you used- the chest looks 👍 and I’m inspired to try this on something small for the first time 😊💕💕🏡
Thank you for sharing your wonderful experience and tips. Since I'm a newbie at this, I have been watching a lot of the videos and your information was soooo helpful.
I am just about to start my first chalk paint project and this was immensely helpful ... especially regarding the brushes. Plus your piece looks fantastic. Thank you!
So glad to hear that the paint goes a long way! I have a 5-piece bedroom set- headboard, 2 night stands, tall dresser and long dresser that I want to paint and distress. They have some texture and detail that I really want to bring out. Just trying to decide on colors! Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the detail explanation of how to use chalk paint. This video was very helpful. Will come back to this video again when I am ready to paint my furniture.
I’ve been thinking about doing some chalk paint painting, and have watched a few videos. Yours is the most informative by far. Thank you for giving the steps and details of the process. It allows me to think about what I’m getting into if I do this thing, including time and money investments. Very nice presentation. I will subscribe so I can watch more of your videos and learn from them.
Great tutorial. The only thing I would say is to never dip your brush into the paint can. It will contaminate the paint and cause molding.. Always pour it into a Separate container. Same for the wax. Use a plastic spoon or utensil to put the wax on a paper plate. This allows you to dip the brush into the wax and get excess off on the rest of plate. I love the chalk paint, I have probably painted about a dozen pieces, and will more than likely paint a million more... So far, I have found nothing it will not cover. Expensive, no, for the amount you can do. I did a whole bedroom suite with one quart of paint.. Wow.. I did distress.. Lol, but your piece looks great not distressed..very pretty.. Thank you for sharing, very good tips for beginners.. Just wanted to add the note about cross contamination.. I am like a mother hen over my Annie Sloan paint.. Ha ha..
Thank you so much for all the great information and explaining with great detail. Want to do my kitchen cabinets so I am trying to get as much info as I can. Thanks for putting this all together for all of us.
What a brilliant video! You explained this very well for us beginners, some people post videos but leave out a lot of basic information.......thank you so much, I can't wait to start on a project soon.
I mis-pronounce words on a daily basis Husband tells me every day. And I love the way you pronounced Provence! Now after years of my continous habit I embrace every word I say differently. You go girl! Can hardly wait to use your tools and techniques to start chalk painting!!!!
Thank you very much indeed for your video. It is most informative. Following your advise I painted a table and chairs and looks fantastic. Once again, thank you very much!!!.
Great tutorial! I'm painting my first piece today, a turn of the century school desk that belonged to my husband's father, so I wanted to be sure and get it right. After watching your video I'm ready to dive in. Thank you for doing such a great job.
This is something that I just wanted to mention, when you remove the drawers make sure you number them with a piece of tape. It makes it so much easier when it comes time to put them back in. They always don’t all fit in any random drawer slot.
GREAT video! Thanks for the tips, I'm about to embark upon my first chalk paint project and need all the help I can get! I love how your dresser turned out!
My first chalk paint video and I'm ready to go and find myself some of this stuff! Thanks for the info - very good information and I cant wait to get started.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have been watching videos as I have an antique desk from my father I would like to paint with chalk paint and I could not find a basic video...thank you for the pricing and brush tips...perfect! You should do more! All the best with your painting!
Awesome video, instructions were very detailed and answered all my questions as if I had been there and asked... thank you... best one I have seen yet...
This was the most helpful video I have seen for someone that knows absolutely nothing about doing this. Thanks so much, please continue to help those of us that do not know how, but want badly to learn.
Thank you for this video! I bought a dresser circa 1920 that is fairly beat up (I got it very cheap) and I can't wait to try my hand with the Chalk Paint. I was concerned about the expensive Sloan paint brushes and wondered if I could use a Purdy brush and you answered it for me :-) Thanks again. **Another Patti**
I hope you make more DIY videos! Your style is very thorough, practical and informative and I will be earmarking this video for an upcoming reprint of a varnished desk. Thanks!
This was really helpful. Thanks for being thorough. Your furniture piece is lovely and the color is fresh. I'm so glad we aren't restricted to dark, drab furniture anymore!
Thank you for posting this video. As some others have said, your info is much appreciated. I have an entire bedroom suite of French Provincial pieces I need to tackle. Thanks for the inspiration! ;-)
So helpful thank u! I'm doing my first piece of furniture tonight. Its a 5.5 ft Thomas Ville dresser. It's from 1966 so I would like to do a lil distressing to it but I'm nervous. Thanks again. Very thorough directions!
Awesome video, and yes, you covered many basics left out by others. Thank you! And btw, don't let the P word corrective police get to you. Sheesh. Most people can read and see the correct word. :) Your piece turned out beautifully! Excellent talking pace and clarity, too!
Thank you! I was really wondering how much I would use for a project, being as its not cheap, I was hoping to get more than one done, so this is a great help! Looks like fun and addicting... :)
I have looked at several video's for chalk painting and I found yours the most helpful. Thank you for telling us the pricing of things. I want to repaint my kitchen cupboards but I'm not sure how the wax finish will hold up from everyday use. Does the wax dry as a hard finish like vanish?
Karen R Hi Karen, no it does not dry hard. It has a smooth finish that totally cures after a couple of weeks, but you don't have to wait to use the piece of furniture. Just give it a day and then use away. Hope it helps.
Very informative and easy to watch. Thanks for posting! If you see this soon can you tell us how well the chalk paint has held up? I'm wanting to do kitchen cabinets so I need a sturdy, family proof, paint. :) Thanks again!
Patty, this is the best chalk paint video I have seen. I have been looking at them for several days. It is exactly what I needed as I have never painted with chalk paint before. Everything you said was helpful and answered all my questions. You also helped me make up my mind to go ahead and spend $40 instead of making my own paint when you showed how little paint you used to paint that whole dresser. Also thank you for addressing the paint brushes. Thanks so much! Do you have any more videos?
Nicole, thanks so much! I just recently I purchased one Annie Sloan brush wax larger pieces. Yes it costs more, but I do see some improvement where a larger flatter surface is being waxed. A smaller piece is just fine with the brush I show in the video. Also, mineral spirits....I find is the best to clean the wax off the brush. Good luck!
Yes, Myra you can use two different colors , the distress to show the 1st color. I found Provence 1st then antique white looked amazing. The blue came through nicely.
Best video i see thank you so ooo much so many informations ...amazing ...I live when woman share them experience. ..... woman power with a paint and wax in hands . .. changing environment around us changing us itself. ..... Thanks and keep amazing job ...i add you to my favourites.
Patty-This is best tutorial video I've found so far. I had questions about the brushes and the waxes, but you filled in all the gaps. I'm so excited to start on my dining room table and chairs soon! Have you ever mixed colors? Do you think I could do a 6-chair dining set with just a quart?
Amy, thanks for your comments. I'm told it can be done but have never painted that many pieces at once out of one can of paint. In reading different Postings from people it seems to have been done. I would think the issue may come in if you want multiple coats.
I'm just getting started on my research prior to even purchasing the paint. Thanks for the detailed video. It clarifies many of my questions. However, the kitchen table And chairs I want to paint seem straight forward with the exception of the finished top. Should I use a deglosser on this surface prior to starting the painting?
ty for the video, I just painted a 4 poster antique bed that had mahogany veneer, very hard decision but veneer was not repairable, since I vowed to never chalk paint any furniture that was repairable without costing an arm or leg. Anyway i used folk art chalk paint and it left a gritty uneven texture, but I noticed when I sanded a part of smoothed out and had a shine to it.....I plan on varnishing but wanted to ask if anyone else had tried a 150 grit sandpaper to smooth out the chalk paint? It didn't take off the layers but made it shine nicely. oh and just by accident I discovered that Castile soap is good at removing chalk paint that has only been on wood for like a day, I recanted a decision and tried a few thing's then stumbled on Dr.Bonners Castile soap, however there is still so much elbow grease to be used lots of clean water and many rinsings so make sure you make the right decisions about chalk painting before you commit.
It always amazes me how people are so quick to find mistakes. How about what a great job she did and Thank you for making this video for us all.
As well you did ! Karen LOL
Thanks so much for making such a detailed video on painting with chalk paint! I appreciate how you explained exactly the process and products you used- the chest looks 👍 and I’m inspired to try this on something small for the first time 😊💕💕🏡

Fantastic thank you so much, I am just about to paint a chest of drawers like yours. Thank you much appreciated
Very well presented. A pleasure to watch...and watch again and pause if necessary. I thought Provence referred to France when I saw it.
Thank you for answering my previous question. I am wondering if you can layer two colors and then distress to reveal the bottom color?
thanks for the video, Im going to look into this caulk paint for an dresser I was planning to toss
Very concise. Thank you.
