Thank you for the love on this video
The sound is similar even if the melody is not! The "instrument" if that makes sense...
i heard some people compared tulin whistle sound with the hawk summoning tune from twilight princess
I thought Tulin is a great contrast to Revali, and this is demonstrated beautifully in particular by the nature of their abilities. Revali is all about ascending to greater heights than anyone before, and this ambition is noted in both his ability and his behaviour. Tulin is all about lateral progress, going further rather than higher. This is also demonstrated in how he travels the farthest from Rito Village than any other Rito.
Ohhh that’s actually a really great point!
Revali is basically Tulin if he didn’t find a way to let others in 😢 and he never learns to until it’s too late
Revali is a dick
revali's theme and tulin's theme also illustrate this contrast!
revali's theme has a part that i can only describe as "soaring" that directly matches the rito village theme. in the village theme, this section is followed by a return to the wind waker-inspired refrain. but in revali's theme, it's followed by a repeat of the beginning of the theme.
it's like he acknowledges his connection to his people but then goes right back to doing everything himself, showing his independent streak and desire to go beyond what other rito have done in the past.
meanwhile tulin's theme has a kinda similar "soaring" part but its not exactly the same and it's followed by something a lot more fluttery that almost feels like he's happily coming back down to earth. shows that his ultimate fate is a lot happier and that he's better able to connect to others around him!
I mean, to be a bit pedantic on that last point, I think the Rito on Eventide Island has him beat on traveling the furthest from Rito Village, and perhaps Guy down in the Gerudo Desert as well.
@@AdmiralTails You're not wrong but also arguably those guys aren't acting in service to their Village the way Tulin is.
I always felt like the Zora quest got way more love and attention from the devs on all fronts in BotW, but in this game, while each quest feels more complete and developed in this game, I can DEFINITELY tell that the Rito got the most attention here, and I think that’s nice considering how half-baked it felt in BotW to me. Also wow, your Tulin voice is spot-on
Yeah, I usually did that one first, cuz 1, it felt like the shortest, and two, the Gale is a movement option, especially useful in rain. But I like Revali the least, since he's such an ass (while, naturally, waifu Mipha is my favorite, like Ruto also is), and I'm good at combat, so the other Champion abilities aren't as useful for me.
Now, TotK, yeah, each of the main missions each has something good-- the only thing I've decided as to which order I'll go to with next time is Yunobo last, tbh.
Tulin's story is great.
Riju's, wish we had more Hyrule Warriors/Age of Calamity-style Base Defense missions like in hers (and that you could put turrets farther apart without them despawning)
Sidon's ability is super strong: instant free heat/flame resistance, and fusing Lynel things to Zora weapons is absurdly powerful.
Yunobo..... well, free bomb effects (that ignore heat), but I'd rather have my Rune Bombs backs, and his spirit avatar still has weight for some reason, which unbalances any flying builds, and he's so big he gets physically in the way a lot.
Tulin is everyone's favorite this game, which is most likely BECAUSE they put so much effort into him.
I mean, it does make sense. He's the only member of the sages who wasn't also the same one who helped you in BotW. This both gives them more latitude to play around with the characterization and create a unique story while also actually REQUIRING them to put more work in so they can properly introduce and justify his character. The other three had a whole previous game quest to introduce them, so they just don't need as much work as Tulin does.
I also think a big part of it is that we saw him when he was younger. The little boy who had to take a ride on his fathers back to get to the flight range, the kid who wanted to see us fly with our paraglider and shoot targets because he just thought we were that cool. You appreciate him in the first game, a lovable child who wants to be a warrior like his father and who looks up to you.
So seeing him all grown up? Still painfully small but so much bigger at the same time? It immediately pulls you in, because you’re proud of how far this kid has gone, and you’re worried he’s going to get hurt, and you want to see him succeed and you want to help him succeed in a way that you just don’t feel towards the other champions.
Point is just that we all adopted Tulin on sight and I think that’s why he’s the favourite.
... not only is the information/teachings from this video fascinating but you really popped off with the graphical story telling. the key engraving is *chefs kiss*
Thank you my friend!!! I started learning after effects for it because I thought a bunch of things would be easier to communicate with visual metaphor
@@Fareehait pays off well
@Fareeha very worthwhile investment. Very appealing video
Fantastic video! I’m surprised you didnt mention the whistle grass from Twilight Princess, as I’m pretty sure it’s the first three notes of that too, which i thought was neat using a wind “instrument” that controls birds to control the bird in the wind temple.
The second i heard Tulin’s tone i knew it came from twilight princess!
@@viviking32gaming97 same i was waiting for the rest of the tune lolol
Fareeha pulling out perfect Tulin impressions
Fr you got so much talent and it was shown in this video. Tbh I didn't know the sound effect that sounds when using the skill was a melody, and surely it's fascinating to acknowledge as you pointed out that it's in fact the rito village's theme. So cool!!
Aww thank you! It’s kinda insane how a cool sound has depth that tells you where a character came from and where they’re at now in their head and heart
@@Fareehathe only way I could see it getting better would be if it changed after certain events in the story.
You got me learning music theory for my favorite game, please gib more
heheh my plan is WORKING
@@Fareeha into music theory, but for quite a long time.
I hear some of the first notes of The Imprisoned fight ( aka Demise, in Skyward Sword) in way to many musics in Zelda, after Skyward Sword's release. I caught 7 of mine, in some variations, some are more obvious than others. Their names are
Demon Army, phases 3 to 6 : TotK
Defending Gerudo Town : TotK
The Calamity's Revival Fierce, phases 1 and 2 : Age of Calamity
Searching for the Lost Woods : Age of Calamity
Mortal Struggle Beneath a Blood Moon, phases 1 and 2 : Age of Calamity
Divine Beast Vah Naboris Looms, phases 1 and 2 : Age of Calamity
Final Battle, Phase 1 : Age of Calamity
The music show some sort of connection to Demise or his power, and by an extent Ganondorf/Calamity Ganon, for me at least, and it is logic for many instances ( Defending Gerudo Town is kind of logic given their version of the Gibdo is created by this version od Ganondorf, but Divine Beast Vah Naboris Looms on the other hand, not so much, given that it isn't corrupted by the Calamity's malice ). I would love to see you discuss this topic
By the way you make video so easy to understand, so a huge thanks of mine.
Yes >:3
Embrace the Zelda brainrot!
Gosh I just love how much detail this game has...and I'm really glad someone with an understanding of music theory notices all the small details they use.
It’s actually so insane how much detail is in everything. I’m gonna be writing about this game for so long hahaha
I appreciate this as someone who was classically trained. Your analysis was expertly done and highly relatable! I haven't played the game though I've played most of the previous titles so I did get most of the references you made. Keep up the great work and it's nice to see you enjoying yourself so much!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!!
I love your passion! You're just BUBBLING over with it and it's so charming, I've watched this video and the video about totk's Rito Village theme and for some reason they've both brought tears to my eyes, lol
This is the most informative and beautiful Zelda music theory content I have ever encountered. WHERE HAS THIS CHANNEL BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!?!?!
Hiding. Lurking…
You didn't put the rock down in the right place in the incomplete circle. Ya-ha-ha!
LMAO
Tulin is my favorite character in TotK so seeing a dive in his journey in a unique way is awesome
Tulin’s sage sound reminded me of the grass whistle used in Twilight Princess
Fantastic tulin impression, honestly! Amazing video
That Tulin impression was spot on. Excellent video and analysis. Hats off to you!
please don't stop making these. i absolutely LOVE your ways of explaining things, a lot of music channels try to make videos for an audience who don't want to learn music theory, but these two videos you've made have such a hook on me and everyone i show. the visual editing is so intricate, and the explanations are so clear. thank you and keep on!
I’m just coming from being recommended your last video. Your ability to communicate music theory in an approachable manner is commendable!!
Originally I liked Tulin's quest the least out of all sages, but damn! This made me really feel for the little birb boy. A fantastic read into the music and the game! ❣️
I get it though, it felt like the Rito were having a crisis where they need food and supplies, but instead you're babysitting a brat and solve the plot basically by coincidence. It feels like it's over so quick. And there's quests you can do after like repairing their bridge or spot a cave to help someone search for food but it doesn't feel anywhere near as urgent and involved as it should. Compare to the Zora where the sludge absolutely NEEDS to be taken care of right now, Sidon is constantly working at one spot day and night so his people don't get poisoned, and he can only accompany you once you find a lead and other people are able to fill in. It's not nearly as impactful a storyline as it could've been
Music edutainment at its finest.
The key analogy is SO GOOD!! It really helped me keep up with your analysis, and the Zelda flair you gave the graphics. Only two videos up and you’ve already blown me away (lol) I can’t wait to see what you do next :D
your enthusiasm is inspiring
Really excited for this new direction for your CZcams channel! Can't wait!
I have a well of scripts lined up!! So excited
You sound like you're having SO much fun with the script, your voice is lovely, but your sheer enthusiasm makes watching your videos an absolute joy I cannot overstate. Please keep this level of energy and engagement and you will reach the heart of so so many people like you have mine! ♥♥♥
I’m so glad CZcams recommended this to me. As someone who really loves analyzing the music in film and video games and currently working towards a composition degree in this, this was so cool to watch GAHHH
I have to say that THIS is excellent narration, I've thoroughly enjoyed your videos from start to finish
This video was a joy to watch from start to end...I might not yet fully understand all the music terminology but your enthusiasm, love and joy is infectous and makes me wanna take a look at these things to be on the same page.
Also the production level with the new animated visuals of the keys and notes are so beautiful...idk what or how you did it but you must've spend countless nights tireelessly working on this labour of love.
Thank you so much for this ❤
You are a talented writer, editor, musician, and voice actor! Holy crap! Immediately one of my favorite creators!
Fascinating!! I was certain that tulin’s activation tune was referencing the “whistle grass” from twilight princess, which summons a hawk to grab stuff for you.
“I like your funny words magic man”
The quality of your videos is so good that I was astounded to find they're your first two. Definitely subscribing!
And here my gf and I thought it might just be a specific bird call! Very cool analysis, I would have never caught on to this incredible detail.
I can't WAIT to hear how you felt about the rising island chain climb. What a gorgeously harrowing experience
The sound always reminded me of the hawk grass whistle from Twilight Princess
You always bring a fun energy to these videos, I’m glad you’re making em
So glad I found your channel! What a great analysis, made me appreciate Tulin's character even more :)
I adore your passion and expression in these videos. Your love for the work you're analysing shines so brightly!
I love the quality of your videos!! it shows how much you love this stuff from just the excitement in your voice, I hope to see more analysis of stuff like this in the future!!!
Thank you for this! There is nothing I love more than listening to a fellow nerd gush about something that genuinely excites them.
You've earned my sub! I look forward to more!
Great video! I love how you use you knowledge on music to examine this. That’s so cool!
WEEEEE WOOOOO omg why have i only just found you today! I'm obsessed!!
btw your tulin voice is too on point...
omg so happy to see another music analysis video!!
This was beautiful! I've never thought about it this way before....plus, the visuals were amazing! Great work!
what an absolutely brilliant analysis!!!!!!!!!!! thank you for this video!
Woah, so much editing! I love it!
Gurl these videos are so amazing please keep going!!
Beautiful video! I teared up watching this video. I love the Rito village, I love Tulin, and I love the Wind Temple so much and your videos add so much more meaning into their stories. Thank you!
Amazing again! I somehow missed this coming out when it did but noticed after watching the OW essay.
This is a great deep dive so eloquently put. I have to admit I got lost on the way but I don't know anything about music. Yet I feel that I could learn more.
I love the passion, the humour and warmth, and professionalism!
Awesome analysis! This video was so well made and reminds me just how much thought went into every sound in this game!
I'd love to see a video analyzing Daruk and Yunobo's themes, especially with how their themes portray their personalities/character development. I don't think I've seen a single video covering that.
Please keep making awesome videos like this one!
Nice analysis video! Keep up your great work❤
I feel your spot on and that this video. As someone who is around the same age as Tulin this video made me realize how much I have in common. My favorite character has always been Tulin throughout the game, I felt like I related to him as a person and grew up just like him. He kind of feels like a brother in a way or a good friend. And the amplified being able to work side by side with him, especially since he is the most useful sage. His abilities and bow are very very useful to me that I use the mask to amplify the power of 24 seven. Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for making this video and I truly appreciate what you’ve created. I hope all of you have a great day.
wow I really loved this video, please keep creating content you are incredibly good at it!
This video is so beautifully done! The editing, script, animations, and research that went into it is so captivating.
I can’t wait to see more musical theory from you! TotK has so much to analyze, but you could branch out to movies, shows, or anything and I would watch it!!!
I keep finding it funny how you can expose so much from a few notes, Jesus. I am not disappointed. I'm going to get used to this format of yours 😅
Okay, so Tulin growing up and becoming the hero he was meant to be while looking up to Revali and Link is what really gives me happiness. The fact Teba would unknowingly prevent his child from growing up, is in Mt eyes what any parent wouldn't want from their own because if the dangers of the "real" world and like you mentioned, he was placed with a difficult situation very early on, be it because if the Calamity back in BoTW or the Upheaval here in ToTK where the transition from his happy personality immediately changes to "Man, I have to do something about this". I believe that because it's been a few years as well (assuming we can gage the age of Hudsons daughter which is 7 or so years old) that it was a significant Time Skip and character development for him to grow up and start taking notice that the world isn't always black and white.
Wow I love your narration this is so good
I always go “weeooo” when I use tulin’s wind.
This is such a good video!!! I love Tulins sage sound
Amazing video!! Your style of writing is exactly what music theory CZcams needs and even better that's it's about Zelda!
Coming from Twitch Overwatch streams to music streams I was not expecting this kind of content but am absolutely blown away. Incredible work done and awesome video. I really hope we get more like it.
Not only is the video and contents great but you have one of the best voices I’ve ever heard lol. It sounds so nice and clear and you manage to punch it up with pep and presentation in a way that’s really engaging; a lot of personality comes through. I got into music at a young age because of Zelda and I’m looking forward to seeing where you go with this channel!!!!
Astounding editing and content quality, Can't wait to see more ^_^
I already freaked out about the previous video but it was such a PLEASANT surprise to see this one done too. I am absolutely supportive of seeing a lot more Tears of the Kingdom content from you, or much anything Kataoka has composed. I hadn't even considered the tonal implications of Tulin's sage sound (until this point it was just a silly little Pokemon sound 🤭). Considering the Rito's more musical presence in Hyrule, it does makes perfect sense that there would be such a sound with _some_ sort of wind instrument. And it becomes even cooler when you consider that every time we use his wind gust, he's actively displaying his newfound trust and ability to cooperate by helping you out, which was, as you mentioned, such a big part of his character arc. Goodness, I _love_ passive storytelling like this, it's so neat!!
Also, as a side note, there are so many moments in here in which your voice pretty much sounds just like Tulin's, which is super cool even if unintentional!
Love your analysis 👍🏾
i ATE up your last TOTK Rito video, and this one is no different although I understood very little of it hahaha!! your passion about music theory makes me wish i was a musician, but after like 6 whole years of trying to read music, i couldn’t do it :( i played piano solely by ear and every instructor i tried rejected me in some capacity due to my inability to read music :,( so for now at least, i am enjoying living vicariously through your extensive knowledge on the subject and passion for it! cant wait for your next totk video :)
As someone interested into going into a study of audio engineering I really find this and your last video very cool! It is easily understandable and digestable whilst being very educational
Thanks for this. A very cool thing I have noticed with the colgera bossfight (keeping on the rito theme) I noticed a lot of people who played it irl or saw em play via stream already got either goose bumps or tensed up right before the big dragonroost part of the song. Showing how the body can anticipate certain drops or events in music and the body releasing that feeling before the person themselves even notices it
I saw somewhere that those notes were similar if not the same to the hawk whistle in twilight princess too
Fantastic editing and story telling! I cant wait to see more!
This is incredible! Please make more videos!!
What a beautiful video this is
Really enjoyed this analysis! Thanks! Here's some more peer pressure to make more!
Your voice sounds so similar to Tulin's sometimes in the video. Also Tulin is LITERALLY my religion right now
Everytime I heard this, I had wondered why I never saw anyone talk about it, and then Fareeha pops off at it again!
Great video!
I love zelda videos like this, Ive always wondered why it sounded like that. Also when you did the Tulin voice, ngl you did sound like him
Awesome video! 🎉
In addition to this spectacular analysis, I’m especially impressed with the editing and graphics! Matching the fonts and visuals of the game is so impressive. We love a multi-skilled queen 👏
Thank you so much!! 💙
i whistle that tune everytime i hear it. crazy you made a video about two notes. and this is edited very well. glad i finally watched this
Glad you liked it!
I always thought he was yelling "WOOO!"
He does sometimes when you’re actually with him but this plays at the same time. Once you’ve got his avatar the voice lines are gone and it’s just this sound
It's absurd how good you are at this.
These videos are FIRE love it
What a good way to learn music theory ! I'm looking for more
I just want to say your tulin impressions are impeccable
I was so confused when I saw that a video about the music theory of ToTK was by a name I recognized from Overwatch, but I completely respect the new direction, and am much more likely to watch these than your stream cause video game music analysis is my shit
While I think this is a great deeper dive on the mindset of the development, I think the depth sacrificed a bit of surface level nods. As someone else said, the gust tone is nearly identical to the hawk grass from twilight princess. Also, you were so close to making a connection to a thought I had, that the first activation sound of the sage sounds a lot like when you take out the wind waker in WW!
1:05 Every time my siblings heard this we just went “That’s Decidueye!”
this is actually cool to learn that tulins wind gust is a rito villiage leitmotif
I’m a huge Zelda music fan! And trying to describe that love of music to other people can get a little confusing for them. I feel so glad knowing that this channel exists! Keeping doing this, and can you break down the zora’s domain music before the quest is completed?
Woww.... I always thought Tulin's sound effect was kinda weird, I never expected it to go this deep
You have an absolutely gorgeous voice!
I can’t believe Tulin narrated this
This is a deep cut so bare with me, but Tulin's sound reminded me of Jeff Wayne's Synth Opera "War of the Worlds", namely the sounds of Martian's building inside of their landing Cylinder.
czcams.com/video/Poii8JAbtng/video.html
This album was my life for like months, I'd listen to the whole thing every day sometimes even twice a day. So when I use his power I just think of the Martian invaders.
This was incredible! I am loving your TotK music theory videos so much. Zelda composers have a habit of reversing musical tracks for added fun, don't they?
I think someone else noted this, but I believe Tulin's sage sound is also a reference to the Hawk Call track from Twilight Princess. The upper note is a half-step down, but I believe the lower note is the exactly the same. If that is indeed also a reference, it just adds even more layers onto this amazing piece of sound design!
This has been the most heartwarming music analisys ive seen, you deserve many more subs but for now take mine
Omg! I didn’t know my English teacher had a yt channel! (Really interesting video, I was hooked the entire 10:00 minutes. Keep it up!)
I would love to hear you take a deep dive into Yunobo's new theme (I believe it is played in full during his Sage Power Awakening scene)!
I might be crazy, but I feel like it would have some awsome connections to Daruk's theme and the Goron people overall 😊
I thought tulins sound effect was the beginning of the bird whistle from twilight princess
I WANT MORE THIS IS AMAZING!!!
Not gonna lie, half the time you were sliding around doing key signature stuff my brain thought you were doing megalomania 😅
I love your videos!
And here I thought it was just simply cool sound design. This amazing analysis further proves why Tulin is the best sage in the game. 💙
Definitely glad I did that region first. He’s on point with a bow, and his ability is great when gliding. Ps, the journey up tk the temple was pretty epic!
Your videos are so interesting and well done, just like zelda s music, amazing work 🔥
