- Islands are supposed to be sunny, peaceful, and warm - exotic locales where you spend time on the beach, maybe do a bit of snorkeling, and even enjoy a few fruity drinks. Except sometimes, none of that happens.
The world sports many deceptively beautiful islands, ones that look pleasant but are actually terrifying. From former nuclear test sites to places that are home to deadly creatures, these scary isles have more going on than we realized. And we wanted to know more.
We found out what people who've been to 10 of the most dangerous islands in the world said about them, and were left ready to just stay home. Vote up the islands you will most definitely take a hard pass on, too.

Fun fact concerning Bikini Atoll.
The developer of the swimwear actually named it after the island because he wanted to give the same impression with his product as watching a nuclear explosion.
I was just about to type something similar when I read this comment.
Yes! I read that
This reminded me of a racy G.I. cartoon they used to put on Saturday mornings in the 50s called "The NO Bikini Atoll" 🤯
Under the Bikini Atoll, there is someone who lives in a pineapple under the sea
tbh I'm shocked that North Sentinel Island's clear boundaries have been respected into the modern era considering how many indigenous people and cultures have been lost to colonization, but at the same time that shit always starts with friendly gifts and visits, and they've made it clear they aren't interested in anything cute from any of us. I kind of love that for them.
Apparently there's nothing of value on that island or surely someone would have exploited it by now. It's not like it's very away from other islands. Yet somehow, despite being close to major shipping lanes for thousands of years it never got colonized and its natives stayed isolated for tens of thousands of years! Also, despite the islands size, their population is estimated to be rather low, a few hundred at most, even though similar sized islands often have many thousands of people.
@MatthewTheWanderer population is probably low because any illness is basically a death sentence lol.
The TV show Ghost Adventures was able to get on Poveglia. Hearing Zac try to communicate in Italian while wearing a plague mask was a sight to behold.
North Sentinel Island sounds like a lovely place, beautiful views, interesting people and the food is to die for.
Fucking nukes and shit they were obsessed with it back then, fucking psychopaths
Days inn catchin the craziest stray😂
You forgot one island, Gilligan's Island
After they were rescued it became a resort.
I'm really fascinated by North Sentinel Island. I'd love to hear more about it
They've already done a video on it a couple of years ago😁
So many videos by so many other channels have done presentations on it. It's an easy subject to find.
@jenniferlonnes7420 your mums an easy subject to find. I hear.
@paulcowlishaw OK, find her. I'll wait and be quite impressed if you do.
nobody needs to know about north sentinel island… because people are dumb and SOMEBODY’s gonna try to go, again.
You guys should cover the Darian Gap. Its a wild place with wild history
This is why I sit here in my room, under a blanket, holding a baseball bat all day long.
We love your channel (and Weird Food History). We're just trying to wrap our head around 1:36 where you're describing automating a lighthouse and the video is of a beer can filling line...
I gotta say something, I personally think that the guy that does the VO for these videos should do ASMR, VA and audio reading cause this has a terrific voice! Seriously he can go a long way with that awesome voice of his.
His voice also comes up in the Weird Porno Channel.
Ikr
Im that person that gets easily distracted but his voice is so good I never do watching his videos 😅
0:18 The smoke monster is one of the most effective villians in all of tv history.
The island of Britain. It's pretty terrible these days.
A+ video!
LOVE IT! What fascinating history!
Thanks for this! 🏝
Thank you for this subject.
The most dangerous place I’ve ever visited is Romford in Essex, I barely got out of there alive
You forgot Epstein island…
Sorr what nah never heared of that must be a rumor kek
Only dangerous if you aren't white and rich
Don’t forget Rock Island! It’s in western Illinois!
its only dangerous if youre a child you diddler
The most dangerous place I ever visited was the grand opening of the local Democratic Party representative’s office in Rockford.
I love history.
I loved the way you spelled the Brazilian island, as if we spoke French 😂😂😂😂
He utterly butchered it. I'm positive it was on purpose though
Brazil is multi lingual country😂
This is why Spanish speaking countries in South America hate Brazil. You can't mention anything about Brazil on the internet without a Brazilian correcting it. Nobody gives a fuck! Olha que eu sou brasileiro. It's really fucking annoying.
@@chromicapop4595 yes, we have portuguese and carioca
@@dropelaves i guess we will never understand the inner machinations of his mind
Most dangerous places I've been: We lived in Turkey during the late 1950s when my Dad was in the Air Force. He was told to vary his route to work daily due to snipers in the hills. Another time, we were told to stay in our house due to some government official attempting to leave the country by way of the road in front of our house, because there might be shooting! Not very comforting at all! Kind of surprised families of were allowed to go there.
which city? i'm turkish
I was hoping you would talk about Devil's Island, the prison island where only one person has ever escaped.
Papillion is the documentary about that ,,
I would love to see a dive into Kwajalein Atoll. My father worked there in the early 70s.
Never forget the Island that brought down Oceanic Flight 815
Boy did you hit the nail on the head with the Taylor Swift reference.
Goth here. We all had a meeting, and we do not claim the plague island.
I frick'n love this guy man he makes every video fun to watch.. I gotta hang out with this guy!😅
7:53 My older brother swam in a jellyfish lake called Jellyfish Lake in Palau.
He said that it was like swimming in a mass of jellyfish.
I've heard about the Brazilian Island of Snakes. Only the military can visit.
If Poveglia island counts for it's ghosts maybe Hart island off of NY should be counted as well.
Still looking for the island of Dr. Moreau
Most dangerous place I've ever visited is definitely my own mind.. the thoughts that roll around in there are absolutely haunting
5:37 Reminds me of the Atari game Pitfall!
Jack Black was the kid on the commercial for that.
"Potentially armed deer" 😅
Oh no yikes!! 😬😬
Please do some pirate history, including origins of skull and crossbones. Unless…unless you’ve already done that 😂
SLAYER🤘🤘🤘
I've always wondered what the snakes on Snake Island eat. Are they all cannibalistic?
Don't know if it's the same place, but I saw a documentary about an island covered in snakes that wait for migrating birds to land on the trees and eat them.
Man voice guy is everywhere, thats a good thing buy the way.
all these dont hold a candle to the most dangerous place in my area:
A wendys parking lot.
Coiba Island is a tourist attraction, it WAS a prison, now it's a natural reserve.
0:52 Slash's Snakepit might like that island!
8:21 Reunion Island should be the place where Lost Loves meet.
❤ peace
pia island has had some studies done it: no history of mass deaths or disease, just some folks taking care of that part of port
3:26 Sounds like the film Fight Club!
a fruity drink or five!
There are no crocodiles in or around K'Gari. Well not yet anyway although with warming waters they are moving further south.
Plum island and Hart island should be on this list Lil St. John too.
You forgot the island of doctor Moreau!
Shadow Moses is very dangerous, even though there's only two snakes on that island.
10:29 I bet the film Casper (1995) is popular there...
Plum Island should be on this list
6:42 I knew that location sounded familiar! The residents had to wear gas masks for over 5 years because of the toxic fumes. Either deal with it that way or leave the island.
I’m pretty sure Shiey (an urban exploration CZcamsr) went to Poveglia
7:16 Maybe they should make lava cakes there.
Wasn't expecting a Slayer reference. 🤘🤘🤘
What about Long Island?
Video says Crocodiles, exclusively shows footage of Alligators...
Chicago.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Nauru (highly contaminated by the former phosphate mining) and Novaya Zemlya (site of the Soviet nuclear testing)
Nauru's inhabitants are the only people in the English language whose title is a palindrome: Nauruan
The first rule of visiting North Sentinel Island is - wait, where'd that arrow come fr
8:46 All four Jaws films are on Netflix.
0:01 The I-Land is a Netflix tv series where a group of people are trapped in a virtual reality prison.
It's a real mind-bender.
I fired Nutflix after it turned into the Obama channel.
…..deer with guns……I feel like there was an old cartoon like this
Far Side!
The most dangerous island i ever visited is actually the island i was born on & still live today. There's no deadlier island in the world than my island continent, my Great Southern Land 🇦🇺
Fun fact: Bikini Bottom is called that because it takes place under Bikini Atoll & that's why all the sea life are humanoids....
I was hoping someone knew this SpongeBob lore!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤
You forgot Isla Nublar
Not real thankfully, but at the end of the real dinosaurs era, there was an island with mini dinosaurs on it. The fossil record shows they got smaller, in order to survive on dwindling resources.
@@julianaylor4351 Really?? The island from Jurassic Park isn't real???????
@@BRAWLR333 They used part of the Hawaiian Islands. 😁❤️
"What's the most dangerous place you've ever visited?"
Your mom's house.
I will stay away from those islands 🏝.
Boy got a beautiful family ef them streets
What are all those snakes eating?
I understand that pit vipers are endangered animals but that's a good thing right
What is the joke with the hotel Days Inn?
I'd like Weird History to scrutinize California's Channel Islands, tell us all what the island camping CZcamsrs won't.
Forgot the Uk
Of Course, you want to take the family to the Bikini Still...SpongeBob n Friends live there....at the bottom! Lol
I want to live on Spider Island with huge Tarantulas
Kind of surprised. Was expecting to see my mother-in-law's house on the list, but it didn't make the top 10.
Treasure Island in San Francisco?
Guess I"ll have to hold off on being an island gyal
I live on an island it's not always perfect, it's the largest of the British Isles. I live in London, England. Certainly, it isn't always been warm or pleasant weather and we natives are mostly friendly, most of the time. 😁
I spent most of the 80s in Western Europe. England was my favorite place to visit. France, the least.
I will always call it Fraser Island. So will pretty much everyone else.
11:31 My older brother's in-laws are professional deer hunters.
That's more of a vocation than a profession. No advanced academic degree required.
@@seanwebb605 Profession - An occupation requiring special training in the liberal arts or sciences (Collins Dictionary)
By definition, they are professional deer hunters.
@@btetschner A dictionary is a language reference guide that tries to describe how people use words in different situations. It tells us very little about what is considered the professional class, trades or unskilled labour. Collins has nothing to say about the advanced degrees and certifications by associations for medical doctors, lawyers etc. Interestingly the Alberta government in Canada wants to apply the designation of engineer more liberally which has caused a bit of an uproar. It devalues the designation and its meaning. So while some wish to elevate themselves by declaring themselves professional in field all it really does is remove important distinctions.
@@btetschner You don't know the purpose of a dictionary and have no understanding of the subject. I haven't questioned the credibility of Collins as a dictionary. It works very well as a dictionary. And I'm more than happy to use it and other credible dictionaries as language guides as that is their intended purposes. But I understand the purpose and use of a dictionary.
Eating ANOTHER Weird History meal!
This time eating Spaghetti* with meat sauce, extra oregano, and parmesan while drinking Folgers Classic Roast^...while watching this Weird History video!

Note: Eating in a similar container as those meals from Hello Fresh
WTF😂
This the oddest comment I think I’ve ever read. You’re fucking out there.
@@camconvo If you scroll through this comment section you'll notice several other weird comments from this same guy.
What about Montreal……
Come to any big coastal city in the US before you say anything about a Canadian city lol
Montreal is fantastic! I absolutely love it.
You just had to remind me of that horrible Lost ending didn't you?
Clearly you've never been to a Slayer concert either.
I saw them in West Germany in the mid-late 80s. Bad assery is all I can say. Someone in the crowd threw a whiskey bottle up on stage and it landed near the drummer. Without missing a beat, he bent over, picked it up, and then chucked it hard back into the crowd. Good times!
Bikini atoll is where bikini bottom is from SpongeBob
0:33 The swift woman reminds me of the awesome music video "Thunder Island" by Jay Ferguson.
They need to make a tv series, a musical, and a role-playing computer game from that song!
Thank you for pronouncing K'gari correctly 😊
🤣
I love how these fall into two categories:
A: The island is home to some dangerous wildlife
B:human beings are violent monsters of death and destruction
NYC!
Poveglia must not be forbidden look at google earth . As many as 20 boats could be seen and gathering of people can be seen.
Most dangerous place I have been is my mother-in law's house!
The most dangerous place anyone can be is in a church.
Please consider an episode on hair goop and products through the ages. It's a fascinating topic
I’m furious that I just found this channel smh…
Chicago jaja
Any island with my ex-girlfriend is the most dangerous island in the world!!!
Yikes, I just booked an AirBNB on North Sentinel Island.
