The moment that really wowed me in this game. I was struggling with the fight with Griff, after failing the battle 3 times I tried to see if I could lure away any of griffs allies, I used the red prince to talk with Butter and ended up flirting with her. Thinking oh well I can’t lure her away better try the battle again. Then once it starts she is an ally. I lost her in the fight 1 turn before I was able to kill the last enemy. After the battle I found her diary and inside it talked about how she had just met someone and was excited for the future 😭 it was so sad.

I'm really, really, really, really liking to see how much this game is being loved by the critics. First, because the guys at Larian Studios absolutely deserve the recognition. They are a bunch of great, passionate and creative game developers. Anyone who followed both Divinity Original Sin funding campaigns know this.
But the point I'm trying to make here is: with this much recognition, maybe, MAYBE, other RPG developers will see that there is still room in the market for deep, complex and rewarding gameplay mechanics.
A "true" RPG renaissance is what I'm hoping for.

SPOILER ALERT : This game is so amazing. You remembered the lizard Atusa that was killed with the laser beam at start of fort joy? Well, I took her "parts" for some odd reason. Later part of fort joy, there was a encounter with Kniles, for the face ripper, and if you had the body part, you get the item without any encounters! Just imagine, a decision you made 3-10 hours ago WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY WEIRD, like looting a body part, could reflect a future encounter. Amazing.

    • @Harkz0r
      @Harkz0r Před 7 lety +4

Not really. I played Xenogears for the first time only a few years ago and it completely blew me away, and the gameplay in that is relatively shallow. To say nothing of Persona 5, which I played recently and absolutely adored. It's like comparing apples and oranges. I have never understood the whole "JRPG vs CRPG" trope as I love both for what they are.
However, DOS2 is certainly in the running for "best RPG I've ever played". Since I'm still playing it, and since I can't claim childhood or adolescent nostalgia for it, I'm not sure if it will reach that hallowed position. What I will say is I haven't felt this excited about and obsessed with an RPG since the first time I played Baldur's Gate II, and that is some _high_ praise.

Divinity Original Sin 2 was great but I would have to give my RPG of the year 2017 to Nier Automata, Persona 5 or FFXIV Stormblood. I don't think Divinity Original Sin 2 is bad, I just prefer handcrafted story-driven and character-driven RPGs (like Final Fantasy) or purely gameplay-driven and loot-driven RPGs (like Diablo 2 and Path of Exile) to sandbox do-what-you-want-and-see-what-happens kind of RPGs like Divinity Original Sin or even Breath of the Wild. I realize Larian are targeting a specific niche and I'm glad it's working so well for them, I'm just not into that particular niche.

We have limited time, but ever single gameplay session, we sit down for a “hour” and after what seems like 30 minutes we find that 3 hours have somehow gone by. Talked to all the rats, crabs, turtles, dogs, cats, chickens, squirrels, rabbits, deers and bears I could find, oh and people too. It was quite an in depth time consumption. If it wasn't fully voiced I have little doubt it would've been more of a w/e game to me, as I still haven't finished Pillars, or DOS1. Hearing the emotion that was intended, the personality come out of the story characters... it makes a world of difference.

I never thought I would get into a turn based game coming from a FPS background but the dynamics of the fighting system is incredibly interesting, challenging, and extremely fun. "Dense" is an understatement. I am continually blown away by not just how many different people there are to talk to (including a whole host of hidden spirits, and animals if you have the Pet Pal talent) and things to do for them, but how much LOVE and CARE has been poured into each one! Even the tiniest character interactions leave me smiling, because they were actually written cleverly, the encounters are all very creative, and almost *everything* in this game is either voice acted or narrated. It actually stands out as a shocking exception when something isn't spoken aloud in a great voice, including the descriptions of things you see or interact with. I am in love with this game's content and applaud what seems like a monumental step forward for the genre.

    Feel my pain though:
    - She steals everything.
    - she starts fights with random npcs
    - while I'm in dialogue, she's looted everything.
    - she used health potions on my undead character
    - ill freeze people in fight and she'll use fire on them.
    - she'll teleport me without consent
    - she'll summon fire slug and fortify it and only use her character to support the slug
    - she'll skip dialogue and wonder why a fight started or wonder what to do next.
    List goes on 😂

This game could be one of the greatest of this type to be created. It’s amazing story wise, truly the world feels so realistic and it’s amazing how much detail is in this game. I appreciate them so much and I’m on board with them all the way, I usually pirate games and watch reviews before I buy the game so I did that and in the end (like The Witcher 3) I ended up paying for it on all 3 platforms and I’m glad, they deserve all the money. I’m normally very picky with things I like due to my mind getting bored so I can’t watch, listen to things that I can predict like tropes/generic repetition and this game always surprised me. Thank you Larian, I trust you 100% with Baldurs Gate.

Playing last night, i came across a sturdy dwarf guarding the entrance to an illegal underground arena that also distributes drugs. he didnt like my character so he dint let me in, there was about 9 options to try and persuade him, the ones i tried failed i even tried to seduce him (my character is an undead male elf) ... so i tried speaking to him with 1 of my companions, who has the outlaw tag, there was now 10 dialogue options because of this, i selected the outlaw option and i was allowed to enter. its simple things like this, that make DOS2 so great. that and the many, many ways you can approach a situation, and this dosnt only include the player, this applies to the NPCs as well, an example of this in the 1st act of the game is when you meet the sadistic physician Kniles i think his name was, on my 1st character (I started again as i wasnt happy with my build, only to find you can respec later in the game) he liked me and he liked fane my companion, he showed fane a way of ripping off faces and he was pleased and he let us leave without attacking us, on my 2nd character i didnt get this far, he wouldnt entertain fane and he wouldnt speak to me, so an epic battle ensued. In the 2nd act you meet his mother, just a random bar maid, based on your encounter with kniles you get extra dialogue options, she doted on him and wished for his return and then asked me if i knew him and i said "Yes, iam the one who killed him after all" she called me a liar and barred me lmao.

A friend and i just finished a campain that lasted 64 hours. We just started a new one.
The previous campain ended with him and me. Dueling for the title of The One. His initiative was faster and he had 2 aeromancers. Loshe and an undead named Death. His genious plan was to use dubble lightningstorm to finish of my elf ranger and knight dwarf. The lightning strike dudnt hit us. So the elf jumped to the center of the map with tactical retreat.
Sacrificed some blood (+10% dmg) and said a few words: "Its over Death.. I have the highground!" and so the elf dipped his arrow in his own blood (elemental arrowheads) and unleashed a devistating arrowstorm that previously had one shoted the final boss. And was now hailing over his previous commrad.
3 arrows hit Loshe dead on and she died emidietly. 4 arrows hit Death straight in the chest, some damage was reflected back on the Elf and broke his magic armor.
But Death... Resisted Death. (comeback kid)
Alas the Elf still had 4 AP left and that would be plenty to finish of the former comrad.
"Any last words" the elf said. But just as his words left his mouth (yes it's still the elfs turn) a huge lightning struck the elf and turned him in to dust. And so Death became The One.
Legend say the elf is still screaming over how the hell that could've happend.
