  • Gerald Swindle shares his favorite fluorocarbon knot for tying everything from jigs to worm hooks and more when bass fishing at the highest level. This fishing knot is simple to tie but strong as nails. He has a great name for the knot too!

    Looks just like a Double Regular Clinch Knot. Where a regular clinch doesn't cinch correctly with Fluoro this one gets the job done. Scroggins uses the exact same knot. Learned it from him about 6 years back and I've used it for Fluoro exclusively since then. Next broken a single fish off. Getting snagged is an absolute pain in the rear because the knot just doesn't give up. One thing I've found to simplify the process is instead of trying to to put the line through already doubled just thread the line through the eye and back again. That way you aren't trying to get a loop in that tiny hook eye.

    • @Nyghtprowler
      @Nyghtprowler Před 3 lety

      Works for me, I been tying an improved clinch on mono for decades, so this is just a regular clinch doubled up. Nice and easy for me to remember since I been tying this since I was a kid pretty much lol.

    The next big innovation in line will be the elimination of knots between braid and fluorocarbon and use of a bonding agent and/or a small micro sleeve each line end can feed into and be sealed with heat or epoxy to bond the two lines together. People hate tying knots and a good engineer will put an end to the cumbersome knots. I am working on some innovations now to solve this problem.

    Same knot I lurnt from my daddy 60 years ago, except he didn't double the line, which obviously is going to be a stronger knot. I switched to the uni to tie to the hook and the dble uni for leader to line +- 30 years ago. It's time to revisit the old man's wisdom w/ the addition of dblg the line.

  • @ronaldferguson2703
    @ronaldferguson2703 Před 7 lety

    I'm an old farm boy like Gerald here with a quick tip to add to this knot. If you're using any heavier fluoro than 14-16 lb and are having issues with line twist on your loop end when cinching down, making the knot all ugly, simply snip that loop in the middle and then do your 5-7 turns. Knot will cinch down and look pretty every time.

    Got the just of it, but I wish GS would have shown the steps a little slower with more closeups, pauses and better camera work - I've tested it quite a few times (using anywhere from 4-7 full twists of the lure) and in all my evaluations (on brand new line) the knot would break anywhere from 78-85% of the rated fluorocarbon line's strength (depending on the manufacturer) - Which is pretty solid compared to many other knots.

    Double San Diego jam knot is most “official” version of a name for it I’ve found. Just started using it for my tip ups. 18” fluoro 20# Seaguar AbrazX.
    Not made for ice fishing, but due to mislabeling prices I got the $28 line for $7 :) switching all my steel leaders to Fluoro. Trying to hammer some walleye, northern pike aren’t picky but better flag % after switch. This knot is kind of tricky but best knot I’ve found!

    Great points, however here is the flaw at least with braid to fluorocarbon. I can pull tight many times before putting it in the water. Not hard enough to break the line, but then I get a fish on that is no where near the same strength and it fails... with quality line. I'm not sure if the product degrades that quickly or the braid is being cut... fact is time to remove flouro from the equation. I don't need to be losing fish when I'm using expensive tackle. I'm ready to go back to mono on everything. It works... And one or two simple knots.

    I respect you Gerald. but you know well and good you doubled the line up and tied a clinch knot. lol. first knot I learned I'd know it anywhere.

    Why not do a double improved clinch knot? I have used the improved clinch knot and never lost a fish

    Is this a double clinch knot? I can't tell if he uses the loop near the eye of the lure, or if he creates a second loop near his fingers.

      Its a double clinch knot. SD jam knot is a better knot. The wraps start at the top and wind down toward the jig or hook.

    Is the knot strength for the double shindo 100%? Also, is the Shaw Grisby/Jimmy Houston knot stronger than this knot?
