- The 2008 NBA Draft was full of different emotions. The first couple of selections ended up being truly heartbreaking while some of the later picks would go on to have great careers. The reason that some of these players would fail in the league was a mix of off-court issues as well as injuries that they couldn't escape.

No doubt. He came out the gate crushing it. He definitely would be considered one of the greats had he not gotten hurt. Just like Grant Hill.

Dude used ankles weights, so it was only a matter of time. All he did was a hop step and tore it, it wasnt like a freak accident where he landed on someones ankle or something, this one game did not decide his whole career. If it didnt happen this game it most likely would have eventually happened later.
Goddamn! This was a seriously good draft class. Two league MVPs, and yet like a number of people have already said, this class's potential still left so much on the table. But I imagine if you count up All-Star and All-NBA selections, 2008 would probably compare favorably to almost any other class. If you compare NBA games played, it probably stacks up better than most. It is not common to see so many long NBA careers outside the lottery. Great video to remember how successful this class was.
This draft had sooooo much untapped potential. Still was a good draft though, but jeez what could have been.

Derrick Rose managed to get his hands on the MVP trophy, but his career could have been so much better.
The point guard won Rookie of the Year, became an All-Star in his second season, and amazingly, became the youngest MVP in NBA history in only his third year in the league.
He was rewarded by the Chicago Bulls with a huge new contract in December 2011 but was limited to only 39 regular season appearances due to injuries. Rose was back for the playoffs and was ready to push the Bulls to an NBA title.
However, disaster would strike. In Game 1 of the first-round bout against the Philadelphia 76ers, Rose tore his ACL while trying to jump. The Bulls were up 12 points with just less than a minute-and-a-half left in the fourth quarter. He shouldn't have even been in the game at that point...
Rose never returned to the MVP star he was after undergoing knee surgery. He missed the entire 12/13 season and only played ten games the following year.
The highlight of Rose's career since that fateful knee injury came on October 31, 2018, when he scored 50 points for the Timberwolves in a 128-125 win over the Utah Jazz. Rose was incredibly emotional after such a superb performance, which was a joy to see.

Beasley's problem was always mental. He was kind of looney.
Really sad that D-Rose will be the first ever MVP not to make the HoF. He just hasn't done enough-his body robbed him of that trajectory

Grant Hill is a HoFer so DRose will also be one.
@@ArchiveRagtagMoe Grant Hill is a 7x All-Star and 5-time All-NBA. D-Rose may have the MVP, but he is only a 3x All-Star, and has a lone All-NBA selection under his belt. They are not the same. People with arguably better resumes than D-Rose-or at least comparable- are still not HoFers (looking at you, Chauncey). It is possible but very unlikely
He was not just an MVP, He is the YOUNGEST MVP. That alone should be enough
D Rose is still my favorite player, and why I got into ball. Scored his career high on my Wolves, holds a record that will be hard to ever beat, he’s a legendary player and could’ve been a star had his coaching staff treated him better

@SweatbandSports i know the first suspension was for PEDs, but the 2 year ban i thought was just over weed. I'm trying to look into it to confirm, all I've seen is that it was indeed drugs and not PEDs that caused the 2 year ban
@SweatbandSports that's crazy though, he was so good naturally if he would've just put the work in practicing instead of using PEDs i feel like he had 2nd or 3rd option on a championship team potential

DRose is such a sad story. The man could’ve been so great. As well as these men losing their careers over weed. They beat their bodies night after night. Let them smoke damn!
Russ doesn't get dragged through the mud as much anymore. The only people that do it are casuals who are stuck on the bit. I don't even think Skip hates on Russ as much anymore (granted I stopped watching Skip after Shannon left).
People will always hold him to his playoff stats if they have that type of attitude towards him
@@SweatbandSports oh for sure, but if you go through OKC’s injury history during that run, it provides some explanation as to why the stats are what they are.
