    All solid progression models & advice that will help people perform their first full pull-up. 💪 I personally love & recommend the scapular retractions, negative pull-ups, & band-assisted pull-ups as some of the best ways to build the strength in the various muscles needed to perform pull-ups.
    Glad you also mentioned discussed improving grip strength, as I find that’s often the first limiting factor for many beginners that needs to be improved. Since pull-ups are directly related to a person’s strength to weight ratio, it can also helpful to slowly reduce any excess body fat through safe & healthy methods if someone is a bit overweight. Great video! 👍

    Totally gonna show this to my wife. She's always been super intimidated by how hard a chinup/pullup is. I have a pair of rings for progressions. I know she can eventually do pullups, it's just a matter of convincing her that it's possible 😃
    As a guy that's always had lat pulldowns as part of a gym routine, I've never had to worry too much about progressions as it was really straightforward for me to jump into pullups. But, that doesn't help me as a teacher as I didn't have that comprehensive learning process. I've never really worried about grip strength, but I know my wife will absolutely have to develop that.

    Great explanations! I think there is a lot on the mental side of doing pulls and knowing they you really need to get strong and it takes time! Patience and hard work

    I maintain a BW of 210lbs year round and have longer arms. So I'm at a natural disadvantage with a bit higher BW and increased ROM. 😂
    But despite all of that, I'm still a pullup junkie and do them regularly. I'm happy that I'm able to do them weighted and high reps with just my BW despite having harder circumstances.
    The key is doing them strict with chin fully over, pausing at the top, and slow negatives to full dead hang on each rep. Way too many people swing, goose neck their chin up, do rushed reps, don't go to dead hang, etc..

    thank you for the great video, very glad to see you pull your self all the way up, see so many teaching to just get your chin over or to the bar, I find that very bad form. When younger could do 40 proper pullups pulling my chin well over the bar and doing them very slowly, that is what we called a proper pullup or chin up, none of just touching your chin to the bar. I am just recovering from a compression fracture on my spine. So starting all over at almost 75 you tend to loos muscle very quickly, if you do not use it. I am still having trouble getting down on the flat bench but it is coming, very painful the first time every work out, but after a few times not to bad. Again thanks for the great video and so glad to see you doing them right. I am hopping to be getting one with in a few months but might be dreaming, age makes a huge difference in recovery.

    I was doing the negative pullups when I first started & on the first day I pulled a muscle in my forearm and had to have 2 weeks rest from pullups I now use the bands to work up to it a bit slower

    Love this video, it was so helpful and encouraging. It’s given confidence to know how and where to start. I can wait to buy a pull up bar and start my journey to doing a chin up. When I do start I’m definitely going to start a CZcams channel and instagram page and credit you.

    The pull up bar at my gym is made for men (as all gym equipment is) so my small woman hands literally cannot grip with my thumb underneath at all. I can only assume it's making it even harder to achieve one for me!
    What do you think about the assisted pull up machines at gyms?

    Thank you so much for this video! I really want to learn how to do pull ups again, so this helps a lot! I used to be able to do 1-2 pull ups some time ago, so I know it's doable, but pull ups are still really difficult to me compared to push ups.

    Thanks for the tips!! After your last video on pull ups, this one has really helped me with choosing progressions/equipment because it is so detailed. On another note, I absolutely love your work space in the corner! Looks awfully comfy:) Also, I might start building a bulldog gear collection haha. Is there one bulldog equipment piece that you would say is the most versatile/useful to you?

    Which pull-up bar would you recommend for indoor use? I’m on a budget and really want to work on my pull-ups!!! I love your channel, watching a fellow girl do callisthenics like a boss is super encouraging!!!!👏👏👏

      Hi Monica! Really any pulling exercises can help so even if you have bands or dumbbells you could do rows of some type. I also have a few videos showing how you can do bodyweight rows on a table if you have one (or chairs) which might help! x

    You saying I am weird, cause I have a squat rack in my living room, I also have a iron man in my hall, and turned my kitchen into a weight room with bench press set up and a cable machine, and a flat bench along with lots of steel dumbbells, O, do not for get my dead lift bar in the hall. So I must be a super weirdo.

    i love the video and the infor. however one thing to note is that you said that the bottom of the pulup is the hardest, wich is opposite of how it works. The bottom of the pullup is actually the easiest. That is why when you fatique you can still pull yourself up a few cm but you cant go up all the way. So the resistance curve of the bans is actually reverse of the strenth cuve. So in most cases bands are not actually that helpfull for pullups.
    With dips both the strenght curve and the resistance cuve match each other. So for pushing vertical push movment(and some horizontal pus like plahnch dipsh) it also helps. I usually tell beginners to train pullups 2x per week. 1e you do negative. second day focus on feet assisted pullups. With feet assisted pullups i advice people touse rings, because you can set up the hight of the rings to match the induvidual. For bars you need to have a box that mathces a persons height, wich does not fit most people.

    I've always found something immensely 'baddass' about folk who can do Chinups and Pullups. Perhaps this year, i'll begin my journey toward my first 1 of each. 😂 Of course, they'll be a lot of falling on my ass. 😂👍
