I miss the good old days where if you wanted a "skip the line pass" you had to actually be in the park, and physically grab one. Then you could not have another pass until either you used that pass or 2 hours passed, none of this "I'm reserving my space in line 3 months in advance" nonsense. Well lets hope Disney makes this system ultra-restrictive and they don't overbook like they did with the previous incarnation of Lightning lane.

I was just there last week with my kids. The real way to do Genie+ is to give it to your 13 year old kid, and let him at it. He got us on all the virtual queues in early groups. His magic fingers also worked well for LL booking. We would set timers for the next time so we were not always looking at the phone. It wasn't as bad for us as for others.

At least genie+ was fair for all guests. Now resort guests have the advantage. AND you still would have to wake up at 7am to get the rides you want, and technically you will still be on your phone in the park making selections. So this doesn’t solve much.

I really liked Genie+, but I never used the older Fast Pass, so I've not experienced both. That said, I don't understand how this is better. In my previous visits, I could book over 6 rides on Genie+, and now I only have 3 that I can book. I guess I'll have to keep looking into it, but it doesn't seem like a better deal to me. Not to mention, we don't stay on site, so I'm hoping there will still be good options left.

@@kayjay5143the wording sounds like once you check into your first ride, you are able to book again. However, you are maybe doing a shorter trip or staying off site, you may only have the option for afternoon rides, while the people staying 14 days plus will already have the early morning rides.
Personally, I loved genie plus. I refuse to wait on lines with kids. We were able to go straight to the next ride without waiting when we chose the more baby rides. Now I don’t know what it will be like.

I liked being able to buy it the day of because I could see how busy the park was the day before and make a decision based on that. Also when you go for a week maybe you got most of your stuff done you wanted so you didn't buy it. Now you have to make that decision prior to getting to the park. Also your first couple of days there the options might be limited because other people can book the length of their stay up to 14 days.

  • @MoonFairy929

Yeah… pushing people to buy early is great for Disney and takes away the customer’s ability to really buy based on needs and demand. You have to buy blind.

If they're going to do this, I wish they would just follow the universal studios model and give lightning Lane, multi-pass for free to Disney hotel guests and make non-disney hotel guests pay a premium fee but they get equal access to Pre-Booking reservations.

Seems like you don’t need to be waking up crack of dawn to book your first Genie + then be stuck on your phone all day. Plus if you can’t get the Genie + time you want it could interfere with other plans like dining reservations that you can’t so easily reschedule at many places at the drop of a dime like character table services. I’m excited for this and happy it will be in effect during my next trip.

    1. They eliminated the free version of Genie. Everyone must now pay.
    2. If you’re an international visitor, you’re completely hosed. You can only book once you arrive in Florida.
    3. They screwed anyone staying at the majority of official Disney “Good Neighbor” hotels.
    4. If I book a 3 day stay and someone else booked a 10 day stay, those people get a 1 week head start on booking Lightning Lanes. That means that by the time my booking window opens EVERY LIGHTNING LANE MAY ALREADY BE BOOKED FOR MY ENTIRE STAY BEFORE I EVEN HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BOOK ONE! I might not be able to book a single attraction!
Bottom line: Disney effectively just raised ticket prices by more than 30% and convinced you to be happy about it. Unbelievable.

Yes because the best part of having fast passes is scheduling my whole experience and not being free to do anything else at anytime.
I wanna go back to the ORIGINAL non-phone app fast pass.

The fact that you have to book a ride is ridiculous. Thanks but I’ll stick with universal studios unlimited express pass. Whatever ride, whatever time, however many times you want. No booking required.

Pay to get in the park at a ridiculous cost and pay to ride at a ridiculous cost. Same crap different toilet. Done with Disney. Bought universal Premier passes with 3 months free paid in full and got 20 percent off. I get free valet or prime parking in a garage! free HHN ticket, free express after 4pm, 15 percent off of everything at the parks, no reservations, passholder lounge all year round, passholder seating in park restaurants, passholder viewing areas, early park access. Got the 3 park premier for a family of 4 and it cost $3200. Have the incredi-pass and get nothing other than a $4800 yellow card and free parking. Disney sucks!

Still inferior to the Universal system. Just get rid of lightning lanes altogether. It works in Europa Park when you don’t have ride ops slowing down with fast pass people.

I am sorry but this is stupid. It just will require more planning and introduce once again the stupid rules from the previous system that truly made no sense. All Genie plus was the old free fastpass system that just had everything on your phone. Plus this aint going to improve nothing, it just gonna make it worse cause it will punish more those that have no clue about the parks and they still are paying for the service.

I’m sure everyone loved waking up at 6:50 AM every day on vacation to do Genie+. This was stupid. I’m not sure who thought it was a good idea, but they should have been fired.

Hmm not sure how I feel about this change. I mean the bar is so low any change is good and I do like how they’re trying to keep people off their phones. HOWEVER I feel like changing the it back to lightning lane could be to seperate itself from genie plus despite having the same issues. Also I suspect this is partly why they destroyed the das system to pressure more people into buying into this new system out of desperation. Funny how they let hotel guests pre book 3 attractions when das used to let you pre book 2 attractions but not anymore. Even if this new system works I’m not giving Disney my money since they clearly don’t want disabled folk like myself at their parks. Universal is still king.

  • @texasguysanantonio8295

Sounds like the Old FastPass+ system, which worked quite well, except now they are charging for it...Which is what they should have done instead of Genie in the first place.

Ugh! Staying onsite at Disneyland it just not worth it like it is at Disney World. I never minded paying for on-site, deluxe in Disney World because those hotels are worth it, AMAZING! The on-site Disneyland hotels are just so average, nothing special. This is a total money grab to make us pay for the on-site Disneyland hotels.
