  • Please note, a correction has been made to the HTC One's screen size (4.7") via annotation. We regret the error. (Description and links below)
    We've put the new PureView Goliath (aka Nokia Lumia 1020) up against its predecessor and we've thrown it into the snake pit with the reigning king of flagship Android sales, the Galaxy S 4. But Samsung isn't the only contender in the high-end Android space, and our 1020 was beckoning us to throw it into the ring with a stouter foe, one with a build that could take a beating. "An aluminum one," our suddenly-creepy imaginary talking Lumia 1020 demanded.
    Well, we weren't about to ask it twice. That all-seeing PureView crater-eyeball is horrifying. So we tossed the 1020 into the fightin' cage with our trusty old Sprint-edition HTC One, and the following video is what came of all the ruckus. Within it, polycarbonate throws cuffs against machined metal, gentle curves do battle with edgy chamfers, and a 4MP camera does its best to shelter its UltraPixels from the assault of a 41MP PureView titan. And it doesn't end till folding chairs start cracking skulls.
    We better go before we run out of stupid fighting metaphors. Tune in below for ten minutes of HTC-against-Nokia including some rather lovely landscape photos and video, if we do say so ourselves and then dive on down to the comments to tell us about your love for BoomSound, your hatred of embedded batteries, or how thankful we should be to live in scenic Boston (we know). Nokia Lumia 1020 vs HTC One starts right now!

    I own a HTC one... Correction, I own my FOURTH HTC one. Never again will I buy one... When I first got the phone I thought it was awesome, it had everything, great looks, feel, build quality, and what a fantastic camera! After 3 months my microphone stopped working, then the top speaker stopped working, and then it wouldn't read my SIM... And then it kept crashing. When I had it sent off for repair they just gave me a new one, fantastic... Until I used the camera, every shot had a purple glow to it, and to cut a long story short, so did the next two replacement handsets... Now I've been offered the Nokia 1020 as a replacement and I really can't wait! BEFORE ANYONE BUYS THE HTC ONE, PLEASE GOOGLE- HTC ONE CAMERA PROBLEM... It seems that hundreds of cameras are faulty and they have no clue why, or how to fix them! Stay well clear for now.

    Internals don't matter when you have an OS that's as smooth as Windows Phone. Adding quadcore processors and more RAM just makes the OS that much better. If people and app developers saw this, Windows Phone's whole ecosystem would be so much more legit that Android and iOS.

    A great review of two very impressive phones. I like the camera of the Nokia, but the Windows platform keeps me from wanting to jump right in (I am currently an Android user). Yes, the Dutch courts forbid the supplier, STM, from further supplying HTC with these Nokia designed/exclusive components. But Nokia also filed multiple patent violation claims with the ITC, which is reviewing the case against HTC. To date, HTC has not clarified if and when the Nokia HAAC microphones will cease to be included in the HTC One's construction.

  •  Před 10 lety +8

    Allright: A year ago I first bought my WP. Nothing fancy, just a Lumia 610, but I liked the experience. Then I bought a flagship android phone with all the bells and whistles and sold it after a month. The android was just a huge mess to me and despite high-end spec it still tended to lag! Now I'm a happy user of a Lumia 720, but it's time to shop for something new and there comes my question: is there anything in HTC One, that can convince a case-hardened WP fanboy to switch back to android? :D maybe some other device? Or maybe I should better stick to WP and just wait for 2014 nokia lineup?

    •  Před 10 lety

      For now I'm waiting for the CES, when Nokia will probably announce their 5" device with internals of the 1520. Then we'll see :)

      @Brightbluecyan Před 10 lety

      i've had the 620 for about a week and i love everything besides the app store. That's probably the only thing that's selling me about android phones tbh.
      If you don't mind some the limitations of the windows app store, i say go for the 1020 !!

      Does Windows phones have Instagram yet? I'm now ready to upgrade from my HTC one. There's so many great phones out now though it seems impossible to choose. I'm thinking to decide based on battery life as that's the main issue I've dealt with in the last year and a half. Also I'd love it to be waterproof and have wireless charging. Only phone to satisfy seems to be Sony z2....but it just seems too big for me as I'd like 4.5_4.7 inch. I wonder if the new LG g3 will be waterproof? Or I could wait to see the s5 active even though I don't love Samsung phones as I find they lag too much.

    As is said at the end, I think it comes down to which OS you want to run. I'm all for Windows Phone and have had my 1020 for two days and love it as both a camera and a phone.
    The HTC One is a lovely looking phone but I would never have an Android phone again. Maybe if HTC brought the design to its next Windows Phones?

  • @jb678901
    @jb678901 Před 11 lety

    The Nokia Lumia 1020 leverages its 41MP sensor to produce over 3.2 micron virtual "super" pixels at default 5MP resolution while the HTC One uses smaller 2 micron "ultra" pixels at its fixed 4MP. Nokia also uses a patented full module 3 axis optical image stabilization (vs the HTC One's single lens element 2 axis OIS). Lastly, the overall size of the sensor has more influence on light gathering than the individual size of each pixels. Hence the 1020's overall superior low light performance

    Tried every lumia except for the 1020, weird to hear that there's app crashing, the 1020 is just a 920 with agreat camera, shouldn't have any bugs except for the camera software.

    Guys, with regard to front facing camera, you're missing the point. You absolutely must include Video Calling performance, since in my opinion this would be one of the main reasons for having a front facing camera.
    There is no contest to an iPhone5 and FaceTime which lets you have HD video calling, It works very well over 3G and handles poor connections much, much better than Skype does.
    Skype has no Mobile HD calling on Android. It might do on some Lumia's.
    You should do a vs in this area.

    What innovation does the 1020 provide? Serious question because I'm not sure if I should get 1020 or HTC One. For a newer phone the 1020 really has some low specs. And that battery for a powerful camera like that I'm not surprised if it doesn't last half a day (I know I'm not going to use the camera all the time but still).

    • @Dinaki1998
      @Dinaki1998 Před 10 lety +2

      No it is not true. I had the nokia lumia 520 and it was great, considering the fact that it was the First lumia in the World then. Actually, Nokia has more useful apps and it is less about gaming. That is why most people pick the HTC one. It runs android and as a result, has a wider range in games. For example, if you are a fan of Subway Surfers then my advice is to stick with the HTC One because Lumia doesn't provide it. If you are not a gamer then go for the Nokia lumia 1020. ;)
