  • Today's adventure has me surprised and intrigued by just how modern Saigon, Vietnam has become!
From the architecture to the landscapes of certain parts of the city, it was amazing to see and compare to my past memories of the country.

@15:19. In that shot from the Landmark you the 7 apartment block buildings where I had a 2 bedroomed apartment on the 23rd floor on the otherside of the building from your shot. Had great views from the balcony down the Saigon river to Phu My bridge, we bought it brand new and then let out, as we have a house 30 klm away in Long Than. I stayed in the apt between lets and though very nice in some ways I didn't like rules and being watched all the time. I feel sorry for the home owners in the US having an HOA bossing them about.
Covid came and so when a lesser left we could not put a new one in. Luckily the next door neighbor wanted a bigger apt and so bought ours.
Out here in the countryside neighbors look after one another, we shared our home grown veg and fruit. As only one person per household, per week was aloud to shop, my wife suggested each household choose a different day to the rest and then we could all get fresh food daily. This worked very well plus the tables laden with homegrown food outside each house kept the locals fed.
Family remembrance meals, birthdays etc. are celebrated in the street with us all lending tables, chairs, power cables and fans, plus of course the dreaded Kari Okay machine. Food or money is donated towards the do and a case of beer or three to keep the lads happy.
Do I miss the apt in D2, the view yes everything else NO.
Thanks for posting and have a safe trip.

That Landmark 81 building is the 15th tallest building in the world. It was Southeast Asia's tallest building until recently and now the 2nd tallest. It's taller than any building in Australia and if it's in the USA, it will be the 2nd tallest building. That gives you an idea of how tall it is. And that Vingroup also is a high tech car manufacturer. Their Vinfast electric cars are now in America and soon to be Canada and Europe and then Southeast Asia.

But does that mean anything? No matter how many skyscrapers or car manufacturers there are that doesn't mean Vietnam is a developed country not even close and the Vinfast cars do not sell at all outside Vietnam because of the serious quality issue. It's too early to be flattered

The Vin shopping building was more people at the time we were there. Most of the foods in there aren’t cheap! And you guys are so smart to check the price for Nike. I think they are much cheaper in the US and even look better 😅 Good work, Khai 👍

Wow, I didn't know that Vietnam already has high-rise buildings...my boy, you saw the ice skating place in the Mall of Asia. But in the past, in one of my visits to Manila, I think they also have one at SM Mega Mall (not sure if it's already part of Mandaluyong or if it's still part of Pasig. About the Nike Shoes, they may be made in Vietnam but the factory would ship them back to the US? Then the retail company in Vietnam would order it from the US and get shipped to Vietnam? hahaha crazy!

lol Vietnam has thousands of high rise buildings. In fact, I'm betting Vietnam overall has more high-rise buildings than Philippines as they 7 cities with many skyscrapers whereas the Philippines only have metro Manila and to a smaller extent Cebu City.

VinMart is already taken by Masan Group so Vingroup have to change it to WinMart :))) All of the Brands is expensive because of import tax. They don't sale directly to Vietnam market but have to export it. Cause the import tax here in Vietnam are way profitable than many taxes in US or EU, and they can file for losses for tex refund :))

Good-day Mate from L.A.California.Nice video but I would have been hard-pressed my-self to pay that twenty-five dollars to go to the top. What a nice view though. Was that the Mekong River running the city? I would like to know if it is. Glad you did not buy those shoes. They seem so over-priced. May-be that is the latest model or some-thing. I wonder if you would even pay that much in the U.S. Crazy. Those high-rises are impressive. Never thought I would see that from Vietnam. Looking forward for when you get out of the city and head to the country-side. That is what I enjoy seeing the most. Safe travels to you and Wendy. Tom the Cali. cat.
