    Sharing few things that I've found so far that can hopefully clear somethings up :D
    To start up the engines, you can use the mouse wheel on the fuel leaver to introduce fuel while holding the ignition with left click OR you can use the mouse wheel to put the start switch to ignition (and it will stay there if you do it with the mouse wheel and then introduce feel and use mouse wheel to put the ignition switch back to norm)
    @42:40 You use those two scroll wheels to set your TOCG and flaps that you've gotten from the performance calculator page on the EFB, that will then show you what trim setting you should be using for T/O (the green marker to the left of the trim handle shows you where you should set your trim to, it doesn't set it for you, that's why you were getting T/O warning because by scrolling the CG/FLAPS wheels you're actually not setting anything, it just a mechanism to calculate your TO trim)
    If you look at your T/O page, your take off flap here would have been flaps 3, but if you look at your flaps leaver, there is no position 3, in this plane, you can fine tune your flaps (to an infinite degree) from flaps 1 to 13 and then 15 to 24) and you have to use the scroll wheel next to the flap leaver to achieve this, so you set the flap leaver in the range marked TO EXT / LAND EXT and from there you can use the wheel to fine tune it you can see the flap leaver moving in real time as you adjust the setting in the wheel)
    You can move the window shade by using your mouse wheel.
    Holding TAB lets you adjust the altitude select in 100ft increments. (I think there is a way to do it with the mouse, but I've forgotten)
    To set throttles for takeoff, you can hit the TOGA switch on the throttles during taxi and then just ARM auto throttle once you're ready to set TO power and throttles will then go to TOGA/FLEX.
    You can put the POS/STROBE switch all the way down, the strobes will only activate once you're in the air.
    You can ARM NAV above 400ft and VNAV above 1000ft I believe.
    @55:52 whenever trim moves by a degree you'll hear that warning sound, just telling you trim is moving, you get the warning sound even when you're on the ground.
    TCAS also works! :D
    @1:19:21 You can set DH using the scroll knob to the right of the altitude indicator (knob labeled PFD DH), the two bottom knobs underneath are for adjusting the brightness of PFD, ND, and WRX/Terrain.
    @1:24:49 the fuel heaters are on a timer I believe, I forgot what the duration is but basically you hit it, it'll power on the heating for few minutes and power off automatically.
    "The Fuel Heat is not meant to heat the fuel in the tanks or something. It is purely to rid the fuel system of any ice that might have built up during cruise. That's why you turn the on for one cycle ONLY before takeoff or approach. The idea is that if you do a takeoff or go around, high amounts of fuel are needed to support the Fuel Control Unit, and you don't want fuel ice getting in the way."
    BTW if you click the battery switch a 2nd time, it will turn the little knob and lock it in place so it can't be turned off accidently.
    Sorry for the long comment/wall of text xD

    I'm by no means knowledgeable on this sort of aircraft, but for some reason I adore it. It's nuts. It's like if a Douglas from the earlier 20th century grew jet engines and computerised components. A Learjet on steroids with the face of a Space Shuttle and gauges from a steam engine. It's like a 1980s Citroen. It's weird and marvellous.

    Thank you for your review but let´s call it what it is - the textures, especially outside, the cabin and some less visible parts of the cockpit are garbage. In fact it´s not just the textures, I think it´s got to do with 3d mapping too. The sounds are disappointing too. The airflow can barely be heard and in this plane it´s the one thing that should be audible. Other sounds are too quiet. I think it´s important that we as customers send a clear message to the devs. Otherwise we´ll be paying over $100 for planes that need separate and pricey sound packs.

    • @320SimPilot
      @320SimPilot  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for your thoughts on this David. I agree about the airflow noise, the flight deck is VERY quiet. Personally I found the flight deck textures to be of a reasonable standard during my time with it so far, but everyone will have a different opinion on this, especially at such a high price! Hopefully videos like this can help people decide if it is for them.

      @@davidtswI agree with your sound pack comment. The odd thing here is that it seems the most expensive add-ons tend to have the worst sound. The Hotstart Challenger is another example. Incredible aircraft but with terrible sounds. Seems they could have squeezed at least somewhat respectable sounds in with all the other work that went into it.

    Hello, just a clarification. Usually the speed to set in the SPD / MACH readout is 250. During the TO phase the throttle goes to full and after having checked that the EPR starts to increase, the AT must be activated. For this reason, in your video during the rolling TO the plane takes time to reach VR. Correct FMA annunciator Is: EPR 50 =90 TAK OFF TAK OFF. To arm takeoff please push the side buttons on the throttle levers. Also in the lift off phase it is useful to keep the AT active in order to guarantee thrust and not speed. The horizontal bar of the FD did not follow the pitch as it should be synchronized during the lift off with AT ON. In the next step of climb out CL you can proceed at your discretion. Best regards

I like the way you explain everything and without the distraction of too many people and unnecessary music in the background interrupting the flow like I see on so many other 'party' videos. Hey I have a question about the flight modeling specifically engine performance if you don’t mind me asking. At optimum altitude like 33,000 feet at 126,000 pounds epr values seem to be very low to maintain m.78. Somewhere around 1.70. I’m not sure if this is how the real jet performs because many pilots have talked about the tight performance up top. Many thanks in advance.

    • @AH-Flightsim-training
      @AH-Flightsim-training Před 2 lety +1

      @@elliottd323 Yes, that's a little low. Typical cruise epr was around 1.80 in the mid 30's at about 130k.
      I could definitely get tight up top. The aircraft could not make it up to the higher altitudes when it was heavy.

    I'm glad you've reviewed this plane! I'll always have fond memories of the MD-82, as this was one of the first aircrafts that I remember flying in. Seeing that rear stairwell was certainly a blast from the past! Spanair had a sizeable fleet of those IIRC. There was also a fatal crash on takeoff one time. Maybe it was in Palma de Mallorca?
    In any case, it seemed like an interesting plane to fly. Kind of a strange stepping stone between a Boeing and an AIrbus, really. But that cockpit could only become more 80s if it had an afro on each lever and was blasting disco music, really!

    Thanks for the review. I used to fly the Rotate MD-80 in X-Plane quite a bit and loved it and its quirks. My family and I are on holiday in Bulgaria right now and luck would have it that we flew here with an European Air charter (previously Bulgarian Air charter) MD-82 . I knew some were still around (I believe they are ex Alitalia ones) but I thought for sure we would fly here in an Airbus … btw we were way in the back near the engines, quite noisy indeed - but we were out very quickly after arrival because of the back stairs. Now I need to either reinstall X-Plane or get this one ;-) lately I only flew DCS, but the MD-82 (and your video) sparked my interest for conventional flight sims again!

    Regarding hydraulics and flight controls, it is used on flight spoilers, rudder and there also is a elevator assist powered by hydraulics (this should be checked by pushing the yoke forward when on the ground, a blue lights on the fwd overhead annunciator panel)

      Also regarding elev trim. @48:50 you were adjusting the trim/flap settings for the takeoff warning system. The trim indicator can be seen to the right of the trim setting indicator (Green arrow to the left of the throttle). You were adjusting this, not elevator trim. The process should be select the correct CG and flap setting for takeoff, then move the elevator trim to match the indicator.

    I got this addon last week and it’s one of my favorites of all time. 10/10 aircraft. I’m not one of those people who complain that some textures are low res when you zoom way in because I never do that so it doesn’t bother me (in fact, I prefer this because it makes the aircraft performance and fps much higher rather than having pointless high res textures in places you never look). The only complaint I hwv about this aircraft is IRS alignment but the biggest issue for me is the EFB. Very clunky and hard to learn, I can tell it’s pretty dated and not a new one. I still can’t figure out how to do a realistic fueling but ig I shouldn’t complain. At least an EFB exists unlike a certain aircraft that I also love.

    Loved the review but I really think you're giving Leonardo a pass on everything about this aircraft with regards to modelling, sounds and texturing. It wouldn't be important if it were much cheaper but this is the most expensive product on the sim, and with that you and everyone else should expect the best in all areas. If this was a new company everyone would be thrashing on them despite the near or even perfect systems modelling and flight characteristics.
    It's a 90EUR product, if I want to get up close to the wings and wheel wells, I should be able to discern those areas easily. The engine cowl is such a shame cause it's a plastered texture rather than modelling the engine. Personally it's a hard sell, imo. It's an amazing plane for a crappy port to what MSFS graphical engine is capable of.
    Also for anyone who's gonna say higher quality texture eat performance this is not true. This is entirely dependent on VRAM any most people nowadays have the VRAM to support 4k resolutions without exceeding VRAM limits.

    • @320SimPilot
      @320SimPilot  Před 2 lety +3

      Thanks for your thoughts on this one. I agree the textures would appear to be below par in some areas and I cannot foresee a major performance hit to upgrade them when compared to some other aircraft. But for this video I used the aircraft as I do for most streams/videos and aside from the drone shots on the ground I found the textures acceptable. This is of course subjective so hopefully videos like this can help you decide if it meets the standard for your use! Thanks for watching.

      The price point of this product is astronomical and even though textures can be fixed, they should not be an issue especially given the amount of time they had to develop it. The other major issue i have is the subpar sounds. Long story short, i love the real aircraft and i don't mind spending the money but releasing what is essentially a port-over with terrible texturing and sounds is greedy. Give me a reason to spend the money rather than riding the hype wave. Give me a $90 aircraft.

    I mean I do like the Maddog and it amazing they brought it to MSFS, BUT it is just so so overpriced!
    It's an aircraft the studio/guy already know since before and don't need to study it to the same extent again, yes knowledge should be valued but the same thing could be said for PMDG and they havent overpriced their airplanes. The model is clearly based on the old 3D modelling and haven't been done from scratch, textures haven't been touched or updated at all and are just subpar and external sounds are very basic. I get the systems and I love that they are there but none of the other areas of this addon is comparable with PMDG, 146 etc and it doesn't make sense. With more basic systems this is a 20 dollar addon IMHO. Hope someone brings some competition to the MD-80 so quality is improved. Just disappointing for such a interesting Airplane..
