    2 friends of mine said they went here at night sometime in the 90s and there was this group of kids hanging out. One guy produced a fireball and they all passed it around their circle hand to hand. They proceeded then to jump from the bridge into the railyard below and then return back up to do it again. My friends left in fear. They may have been tripping on something called acid but they are convinced they saw something supernatural.

    @bertrandolf9733 Před rokem +37

    The real explanation: From it's point of origin sound travels into all directions in an (at the speed of sound, who would have guessed) expanding spherical shape. Now if there is a circular sound reflective surface AND the point of origin of sound is the exact concentric middle point then the spherically expanding sound wave will hit the surrounding circular surface in all directions at the exact same time. Ring-shaped reflection will then be thrown back to meet again culminating at the central point of origin. The smoother the reflective surface the less diffusion and the better the kept integrity of the waveform. The physics work precisely and though i've never been there i assume it is only evoke- and perceivable for the single person at the exact centre (?).
    A second, physio-neuronal level plays into the perceivable quality of the phenomenon as well: We have two ears and every sound coming in at an angle of incidence that's not exactly perpendicular hits the ear closer to the source a little earlier then the other one. The time difference is greatest for laterally incident and zero for perpendicular incoming sound but absolutely precise for any given angle. Neuronal "circuits" perceive this temporal shift of otherwise pretty identical waveforms and integrate it as a quality of direction as the perception is presented to the consciousness.
    Because of the deflections of our head and shoulders there are also spectral differences from the two ears that are used for direction of origin perception and especially helpful for up/down perception of moving sources (in case you wondered how this was achievable with two ears).
    If we hear different sounds from different sources at different locations all at the same time our brains are able to integrate, identify and perceive each sound coherently with it's own direction of source. With this in consideration now figure: If you are at this place of precise physical circumstances and your mouth at the centre produces sounds but your ears are a little left and a little right of your mouth ....... now the reflection of your sound is coming from the front and back to both ears at the same time, but reflection is also coming from the left side to the left ear a little earlier then (with a spectrotemporal shift) to the right ear, but it is also coming from the right side to the right ear a little earlier then (again with spectrotemporal shift) to the left ear .... and everything for any continuous angle in between all at the same time. And our brain is not totally confused but able to integrate all this for our conscious perception as exactly what it is: a coherent integer sound coming from everywhere at once. Amazing.
    Four more points:
    1. Since the energy of the concentric reflections re-culminates in the centre the effect should be perceived much louder than expected as experienced from "normal" straight wall reflections.
    2. The effect might be even stronger when it's wet.
    3. An ellipse shape would make for a two-person experience with the two people standing in the two focal points of the ellipse perceiving the respective other as being in all directions (but not themselves). The direct sight line should be blocked and ground reflections should be absorbed or at least diffused as these would lessen the effect.
    4. I am a sound engineer ;)

    my theory: binaural reverberation probably cancels the echos.
    see, sound is a wave. it goes outwards in a sphere shape wave. when it hits the concrete surrounding it, it sends the echo back at you, from all around you. in other words, all the soundwaves you sent outwards to that perfect circle will now close back to the center of that circle in a perfect waterdrop-wave like shape. now your body absorbs back that echo, which this is the echo that you hear when you hear yourself amplified. this is nice but outside of it, you probably can't hear it because of the perfectly-sized-for-the-speed-of-sound structure of it. i mean, when you speak your voice sends out and also echoes back. at the position of a man standing outside that circle, the soundwave produced in the middle of that circle is probably cancelled out due to its own reverberating echo, my guess. i think that active noise cancelling headphones work in a similar way.

      So theoretically weather would affect the way this works then huh, if it’s dependent on structures to cause the phase cancellation? Due to the fact that sound moves at different speeds in air of varying weather conditions/temperatures the positioning of the person creating the sound would have to change a bit. I wonder if there’s a point during the year where this doesn’t work too well. 🤔

      They won't hear the ECHO. They hear the person speaking in their normal flat voice.

      The man very clearly stated that it's what the city calls it, just as every place in America has some kind of nickname. My tiny city here has its own name, but is casually known as The Forest City because of all the trees in/around/through it. That's all they're referring to, not that that place is THE center of the universe!

      The echo can't be heard by anyone outside the circle, just the voice of the person inside it a a flat, normal voice.

    If the earth is constantly moving, how can it be the centre of the universe ?

    • @CATRACHITOPOWER
      @CATRACHITOPOWER Před rokem

      We don't know how big is the universe, so probably the entrr of the universe is endless too. Maybe the universe is moving too.
      I think it is like the wheels on a car, they are moving but they a re at the same spot on the car.
      However I don't think this place is the center of the universe. That would mean earth is the center of the universe and no, we aren't that unic.

    • @jb6712

      "Me and my wife..."??? Properly, one puts the other person first when including them in any conversation, so it should have been "My wife and I..."
      You can't very well criticize another person's speech anomalies when you are far from perfect yourself.
