    Is memory wire and stainless steel wire the same and will these kinds of wires hurt my Lindstrom pliers? I know memory wire requires a specific kind of cutter but what about the needle nose, round nose and other tools? Just purchased a set of Lindstrom tool and it didn't come with instructions of what I can't use them on. Thanks for any help!!!

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 7 lety +3

      Memory wire and stainless steel (Which are similarly tough but usually refer to slightly different things metallurgically) can both be bent, twisted and worked with your Lindstorms. Cutting memory wire and the larger gauges of stainless steel are where you need to be careful. Personally we always use a less expensive purpose built tool, like Xuron memory wire cutters, out of an abundance of caution. The Lindstrom cutters have tempered carbon steel edges with hardness comparable to a high end professional chef's knife, for smaller gauges of stainless steel they should stand up beautifully, but we find the real advantage of the Lindstorms lies in their ergonomics and precision cutting abilities. For making sale pieces with precious metal wire every day they're invaluable, for cutting hardened thick gauge wire they may not be the right tool.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 5 lety

      Steel looping pliers can be used to create a loop. We recommend the following looping pliers: www.beadaholique.com/beadsmith-wire-looping-pliers-concave-and-round-nose.html

    • @DaedalFactotem
      @DaedalFactotem Před 5 lety +1

      Memory wire is typically tempered steel which retains whatever shape it is formed into. Similar to coils in a spring mattress that retain their shape; same material, same/similar tempering process.

    I have a couple questions. If I use a crimp bead, like in the videa, will the bead used for the bracelet cover the part that I crimped? How sturdy is the ball with hypocement? I want to sell bracelets and am trying to figure out what will be most durable.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 2 lety

      This will depend on the hole size of the beads. If the hole size is about 1mm, the bead will not pass over the crimp. Larger holes may pass over the crimp. The GS Hypo Cement is a very durable adhesive. However, you can also try E6000 adhesive, which has a slightly stronger bond, but can take longer to dry/cure. Thanks for watching!

    So, I'm guessing you can do all of these techniques with flat memory wire as well....Also is it safe to use wubbers wire looping pliers on memory wire?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 10 lety

      You can make loops at the ends of flat memory wire, but I would just use round nose pliers on it. You could also use a crimp with a loop on flat memory wire, but just crimp it flat with chain nose pliers, not with crimping pliers. I would recommend using some GS Hypo Cement to make it more secure. We do not currently carry glue on ends for flat memory wire.

    • @XoCuddlesOx
      @XoCuddlesOx Před 10 lety

      Every time i use pliers the loops turn out terrible and uneven, and the plating chips off :(

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 10 lety

      Sydney Doe I find it helpful, because the wire is hard, to grab the wire a few millimeters down from the edge with my round nose pliers. It keeps it from slipping out and the very tip can be straight, it doesn't need to be rounded all the way to the end. If the loops are not sitting flat, you can always straighten them out with chain nose pliers. The plating should be okay if you can keep your tension even and avoid too many re-tries. I think it may just be a matter of practice.

    I like to use the loop at each end of the memory wire. I attach a charm or bead to that loop using a split ring. I used to use a regular jump ring, but got a complaint from a customer that the dangle fell off. I thought using a split ring would guarantee against that because it would be thicker and couldn't slide through. However, I just had a customer return a bracelet where one of the dangles simply "dropped off" the bracelet. The split ring remained attached to the charm. Looking closely, I don't see how it could have come off, but I was with the customer when it happened, so I know it simply "fell off" the loop. How can I prevent that?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 4 lety +1

      Your loops may not be tightly closed but a way to prevent this is to do a double coil; meaning when you bend the wire in once, coil it tightly again to create a loop that actually looks similar to the stacked look of a split ring. Then use a split ring to attach the charm. With two double coils, it will look like a design choice but also be very secure.

      The memory wire ends we've used are pretty forgiving, they fit the common sizes of memory wire. The main difference in their sizes are cosmetic. We use 3mm memory wire ends for ring sized memory wire because it looks better than using a 5mm end. A few days should have been enough. If it's still not holding you have not have used enough cement. That's one of the reasons we prefer E6000 for this kind of work now, it fills gaps better than the GS Hypo cement.
