- In this podcast episode, I have a chat with my daughter about incentives that drive economic prosperity and reward initiative and risk-taking. Specifically, we look at the principles that Xiaogang village adapted in 1978 and how it led to China's modern economy that reportedly lifted 500 million people out of poverty.

I respect the perspectives of the speaker. However this is an extremely simplistic - and dare I say outdated - view of Socialism/Communism. Sharing resources or public ownership of means of production DOES NOT lead to dictatorial brutal regimes. Just because that happened under Stalin or Albania etc, is rather a lazy representation. Modern socialism focuses on nationalising natural mononpolies, such as rail, healthcare, utilities, energy, etc. Things like having a universal basic income were not considered in this talk. The grotesque pursuit of profit by corporations, landlords, at the expense of working people was not considered in this talk.
I look forward to more content from this speaker, but I do feel that there is a lot more we could cover. Redistribution of wealth is absolutely an Islamic concept.
