Got 3 of this revell motorized kits 1/40 in mid 1960. None of them run for a few feet & gears worn out. Never thought of seeing it again. I can swear they were exactly same, 1/40. Revell raised the dead.
I built several of these when I was a teenager and there was one that had a motor in it. I can see the remains of the battery box in the tank bottom. It had two metal axles . The idea was great but poor planing. I will look for this kit as I would like to build it again. Great Video!
Thank you your going through my childhood. Good looking little kit still, never did any painting and weathering back then. They also used to make biplanes that were already painted I just had to glue the wings on and put the stickers on them. I'd hang them from my ceiling anyway thanks again makes me feel good and I guess that's your job you've done well.
Not a bad kit for its age, i'll have to pick one up. It would also work great for part swaps/ kit bash with Testors M4A3 tank from their level 1 quick kit line, to give it some some more detail.
Real journey back in time! Had this kit when I was 10 or 11. That was quite a few years ago. Back in the late 60's or early 70's. Never saw it again. Really wish I could find one. Who knows..? And BTW, very nice work on the 'Old Lady'!
tile grout? This is the type of idea I'm looking for and trying as I get back in the hobby. I see your usual selection of paints worked well especially wit the coats afterwards. I like it. great stuff. I would love to see what you do to the Easy Eight edition with the after market accessories - carry on.
Thanks James. I rarely buy a lot of aftermarket stuff, I like kits as they are but I do have some stowage resin parts as I want to do the Easy Eight as Fury and needed the stowage and logs. I'll get to it one day. :)
Due, built the original when I was a kid...but could have sworn it was in 1/32 scale back then! It was fun to build back in the day, but I think I would pass on it...with one exception....getting some younger kids into the hobby with that kit! Thanks for the review!
I have not seen this kit in person. I see it is said to be 1/35. I have done many of the other 2 Revell (former Monogram) Shermans which are 1/32. How do these compare size-wise to the former Monogram Shermans? Is it a true 1/35? I wonder why they changed scales.
Just got one if these at Hobby Lobby. Original sticker says $29.99 and they had 2 left marked $7.49 and my 13 year old son was ecstatic to get one. He’s watching this video by Chromcast as I’m typing here 😃... modern technology 🤣🤪 ..... anyway thank you for this awesome video!
great build. Tile grout for mud - how creative. How about a Tamiya Sherman (for comparison)and a Jeep to accompany them? I hope peple follow your lead on the paint, and weathering. Were you a fine arts major?
Thanks! Tamiya will be far more detailed, for twice the price of course. But this is a fine kit for the price and does well with a bit of detail painting.
These older kits lacked detail but pretty sturdy since they usually got played with after being built. Think they were targeted more towards kids than adult modelers. Don't think we're too many serious modelers in the 50s and early 60s. Now almost the opposite is true, mostly adults, few kids.
These ancient Revell tank kits, from what I'm told, are not 1/35 or 1/32, it's some weird 1/31 scale and mostly toy. I have their M-48 Patton, a real putty monster and not worth building. However, your M4 turned out quite nicely.
Thanks, worked out well. It looks to line up close enough with 1/35 stuff since the scale isn't all that far off. I'm sure lined up against a perfect scale 1/35 you'd see a size difference but not just looking at it on my shelf by itself.
The Revell Sherman is very close to 1/35, just compare it to a more modern kit. Being released in 1955, I see it as the grandpa of 1/35 scale armor kits. I have an original 1956 release. The later Revell kits from the 1950s were in 1/40. The M-48 you mentioned was released by Monogram in 1959 and is still being produced by Revell Monogram. It is 1/35 scale, as were all the subsequent Monogram military vehicle kits, until 1969 when they switched to 1/32 scale.
In World War 2 the tank crews removed the star's from there tank's, I have a book US Tanks in WW2 showing two holes in the star on the side of a tank...

Thanks for watching Mike!
I have this kit. It’ll be my first tank build. I’m glad you did a review and build!
Enjoy, I had a fun time.
I had one of those when it first came out. That was when my age was a single didget ! I built a number of them over the years and enjoyed every one !
You bet, they never stop being fun.

Fantastic job Chris! The weathering looks great!
Thanks Kenny!
Good review as always. It built up to be a terrific representation of a Sherman. Nice work on the washes and mudding it up.
Thanks Vince, for a 1955 kit I think it was just fine as well. I enjoyed it.

Thanks! Lots of fun factor in these old kits and most of them turn out pretty nice too.
They sell this kit at hobby lobby
Got this kit for Christmas loved it my first glue model kit all my other ones were snap tight ones
Enjoy!
Fun build, the TC is James Garner, and C. Thomas Howell and Jenilee Harrison must be inside! One of my fave 80's movies. Tank. Great job!
Good movie, thanks!
Just thinking about that movie

It's a fun kit, yong and old. I'll have to assemble my new Tamiya M4s and see how different tech has gotten.
Been usein windex forever, best money savin tip!;)
Looks great Chris!
Thanks Mr Ching! Hooah!
Another great review Chris thanks
Jeff's model garage Here too ?!?
Thanks Jeff!
Great job,Chris.
Thanks Charlie!
The scale is actually 1/40…to match all the other early Revell and Adams military kits from the 1950’s done in 1/40 scale.
I built this kit back in the '60's. I think Revell also made a 1:40 Sherman which pre-dates this one.
Still fun all these years later. Thanks for watching!
This is the same original 1/40 kit molds.

Came out great!
Thanks Dan!
great review !! nice job
Thanks Larry!

this is a classic i still love to build the old kit's form time to time.
Always a good time to see how our skills have improved since the first time we built it.
Exactly.
great review and great, simple build video. thanks so much
Thank you and thanks for stopping by the channel and watching!

nice job bud.....you finished up beautifully....nice...
Thanks Drew!
I am having problems mounting the treads on any tank model I build. Can't quite get them to stay together when trying to mount them on the tanks.
Super glue will hold them in place. Model glue doesn't work well on the tracks, even the ones that say they can be glued with model glue.
@@hpiguy Thank you for the advice.
My first tank model in 1959.
Cool!

Yup, they were geared towards the younger crowd, as models were usually the realm of youngsters back then.
Why this sherman a wasy eight suspension ?
Good review and build up
Thanks man!
Norm here Chris, put some stars on the helmet of that tank commander and he would look just like General Patton 👍👍👍
Thanks Norm!

Nice job!
Thanks!
Well done!!!
Thanks Ken!
Thought this was part of their 1/40 scale line up...
is that an M4A1 with a 75mm, HVSS (M4A1 75s never got HVSS), and the engine deck of a radial engine Sherman and a A3 (which is cursed)
whats that airbrush (the fan pattern bottom feed)
Inexpensive Hobbico generic brand I got from Tower Hobbies, probably similar to the Paasche beginner set.
Thanks

I believe that kit is older then sliced bread.
Yet still is fun to build and comes out nice!
Enjoy!
Do the tracks drive ?
No, it's a static kit, no real operation.
Oh ok thanks
Do you know any kits that do have operational tracks ?
Tamiya 1:16 scale...
Never done a kit before I am a die cast metal kinda guy
In World War 2 the tank crews removed the star's from there tank's, I have a book US Tanks in WW2 showing two holes in the star on the side of a tank...
Many tanks were debadged yes, and many were left with stars on them and others had other things painted on them. Build the one you want to see.
I have books with many holes in yankie tanks... 😮
I got this kit and it is very bad
I didn't have any issues, as this video shows.
