  • How Neck Deep Surpassed Pop Punk
    -----------------------------------------------------
Neck Deep is a UK band on the verge of releasing their four LP 'All Distortions Are Intentional' via Hopeless Records (July 24th).
Fronted by Ben Barlow, Neck Deep has been active since 2012.
Neck Deep found major popularity with their pop punk masterpiece "Life's Not Out To Get You". However, following the success of that album, they went for an even bigger sound on their following effort "The Peace and the Panic".
The album did phenomenally well and Neck Deep was blowing up faster than ever. The growth never ceased after that album.
Now we're in 2020 and Neck Deep is the biggest they've ever been before releasing an album.
All Distortions Are Intentional is the furthest they've been removed from their initial sound. And they sound amazing.
I can't wait to see what the world thinks of it.

    Edit: 4:37-4:53
I had to replace the song due to a claim blocking it partially worldwide. When that happens it tends to kill a video forever.
It was a tough decision to make bc it disrupts the overall flow of the video. But it was a compromise to give it the best change to continue circulating through the algorithm.
I’ll never understand stuff like this. Bc, from the very beginning all of the revenue was being funneled to hopeless bc I used Neck Deep songs. Which is more than fair and I expected + am 100% okay with.
It’s not their fault, they’re awesome. But it just makes no sense to partially block a video worldwide when it’s making your own copyrighted material money. Again, it’s just dumb complicated copyright stuff and not Hopeless’s fault.
Thank all, have a safe Sunday. -Nate

this might get lost in a sea of comments since I'm not going to pin it. But thank you all so much for the support you show. I try not to say it too much and be annoying about it, but it's something I think about often. I may not know each one of you individually, but I genuinely say that I appreciate each and every person's support. Hope you have a great upcoming weekend. -Nate

This video is a big deal for me as you have shown me so many bands that I fell in love with (hot mulligan etc) and I thought I was a pretty big neck deep fan. Really got into them from the peace and the panic and now I'm listing to LNOTGY and it's actually heavier then I thought it was Gunna be. Love it all and thanks for helping me find more amazing music

Hopeful of growing up, becoming the person I wanted to be, and leaving my hometown in search of a better future. The songs still resonate to me today. Neck Deep is great and has diversified their sound a little bit, but to be honest they're still very pop punk to my ears, and everything they do is still pop punk-related, songs like in Bloom are not far from poppy songs done by other pop punks bands before.
They're just really good at their job and know how to keep things fresh in my opinion.

I continue to be impressed with their change and progression and ever since LNOTGY came out, Neck Deep as musicians have made a huge impact on my life and even affected my world views. I think this new album is a ton of fun, while also touching on some melancholy feelings, as well as creating a sort of musical experience of lightheartedness and focusing on embracing various parts of life and individual existence. It might not be the fast paced skate punk blast beat style pop punk of their early work, but their new stuff still has a feel of a new take on the 2000s radio pop punk like Blink’s Self Titled album. Pop punk is a super diverse genre and their newer stuff is as pop punk as their old stuff.

I feel like the reasons for surpassing pop/punk here can also be said about Waterparks. I can see it with Neckdeep too, but they seem to keep to the conventions of pop/punk more

Just hear me out on this point. I agree with everything you’ve said, but there’s just one more additional point I’d like to add. I think Neck Deep would’ve been a far different band today had Lloyd never left the band. I’m all in for Neck Deep, loved every single release including ADAI, but Lloyd was a creative genius, and had they’d gone this direction with him still in the band, I think the last two release would’ve sound insanely different and massive.

1 have one tattoo, and that a neck deep tattoo.
I have heard the new album and think its their weakest effort in my ears.
But its their best effort progression wise.
I support what they do and I'll always will go out and go their shows when this covid stuff is over.
    I'm happy for them

I have one Green Day (American Idiot) tattoo and a BMTH (Sempiternal) inspired one. Both changed, both aren't the same as before and I don't necessarily prefer them now, but a tattoo simbolizes the love for a band and what they meant to you at the time of getting the tattoo, and that stays, even if you end up not liking the band anymore. So I feel you man, and a Neck Deep (LNOTGY) tattoo has been on my list for a couple years now, I'm just trying to figure out where I should do it.

I think Brand New starting out as Pop-Punk band changed more than Neck Deep more successfully and with a more die hard fanbase. At least until everything that came out about Jesse Lacey.

I always listening to pop punk since 1996, but I discovered this band 3 years ago. Normally, ''new punk'' band that are not from nostalgia , I wouldn't care much. But this one is really good, and I had to buy their album. Pretty rare , they must be good ;)

Seb their bassist/Ben's brother mixes for them and is a genius. They also did work on the latest tracks from Maggie Cassidy in songs like Just to Know & S.A.D which I would highly recommend. Seb is a genius.
