LYRICS
Mother, do you think they'll drop the bomb?
Mother, do you think they'll like this song?
Mother, do you think they'll try to break my balls?
Ooooh aah, mother, should I build the wall?
Mother, should I run for president?
Mother, should I trust the government?
Mother, will they put me in the firing line?
Ooooh aah, is it just a waste of time?
Hush now, baby, baby, don't you cry
Mama's gonna make all of your nightmares come true
Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you
Mama's gonna keep you right here under her wing
She won't let you fly but she might let you sing
Mama's gonna keep baby cosy and warm
Ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe
Of course Mama's gonna help build the wall
Mother, do you think she's good enough?
Mother, do you think she's dangerous?
Mother, will she tear your little boy apart?
Oooh aah, mother, will she break my heart?
Hush now, baby, baby, don't you cry
Mama's gonna check out all your girlfriends for you
Mama won't let anyone dirty get through
Mama's gonna wait up till you get in
Mama will always find out where you've been
Mamma's gonna keep baby healthy and clean
Ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe, ooooh, babe
You'll always be a baby to me
Mother, didn't need to be so high

Hello Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry for your loss
Hello friend how are you doing?

I am so sorry Kathy. May you get some peace in Godspeed. Please ask the Almighty for strength
66 years old in 2024 and still listening to & loving Pink Floyd.
75 and doing the same.
They never get old man
25 and have been listening since 2014
73 and domingo same
48 this year love the Floyd
I’m 15 and I’m sitting in my living room alone at night learning this song on headphones envying all those who saw pink Floyd in their glory days, they’re my favourite band and I love their music with my whole being. Dave Gilmour takes me on a journey with every solo he plays, and roger waters’ lyrics are out of this world
Go fourth and rock little brother,, Pink Floyd is one of the greatest of all time.... I've seen them twice at 61 years old
My favorite band since 1975. Saw them in 1994.
Drop 10 and turn off the lights
Saw them in 1993. Amazing concert. I still play their music as I’m getting ready for work or relaxing after work. I wish I had a musical talent. You are truly blessed that you do. You have a bond with them that those of who aren’t musically inclined do. Good thoughts, good words and good deeds (and yes, I know that was Freddy Mercury).
You’ll go far. Don’t ever let anyone stop you.
As I get older, (now 65) and listen to my era music, a flood of memories come flushing in along with the smells, sensations and even emotions, and I again come to my conclusion…it was the best era of mankind to date. Never will we see and or hear another era of this magnitude. I was blessed to be born in this era.
Согласен,мне уже 70.....☝️😩
Sad i wasnt born in that era
😑😑😑😑😑😑♥️

😅
In 1980 I was 16 years old and could not stop playing this album, it gave me all the strength and confidence I needed at that time. When I look back and wonder where those 41 years have gone, my eyes begin to water....... never ever put the brakes on your ambitions.... take care all.
I was the same age.
I was seventeen years old in 1980, and i also played the album non stop, all those years ago, i remember all the dreams and hopes i had, and all the people who were in my life then, sadly most of them have all now gone, but the memories always remain.
Never stray to far from 1980 I was turning 11 that summer my mom was battling breast cancer while trying to still keep 7 kids from killing each other. Mom passed in January of 1981 the time does go fast but that 1980 and 1981 allways seem to last forever be it good or be it bad , Miss you mom .

A bit melancholy, huh? Still gotta love it.

I'll be 71 this summer and still listening. We enjoyed an era of outstandingly talented musicians. Pink Floyd; Emerson, Lake and Palmer; the Moody Blues, etc. Great time to be young.

I grew up with Pink Floyd. I don’t have a mama any longer. This song means a lot to me.

I don’t understand your sentiment. I’ve always viewed this song from the perspective that the “mother” was a controlling tyrant.. one who controlled him and kept him hidden from the world.. certainly not a love song for your mother by any means.
@@sweettee_gaming It's not something logical. It's an emotional thing. Mother can be a controlling tyrant, checking your girlfriends for you, not letting anything dirty get through, whether it's good or bad, and you can still have a deep emotional attachment to her. My mother had a lot of annoying little habits, nothing crazy, just annoying, and I used to snap at her when I was young. But she loved me so much that I forced myself, very consciously, to ignore whatever things I thought she did wrong. And now, 10 years after her death, I choke up every time I think about her.
The guitar solo in this particular version of mother is other worldly....it seems to speak to my soul. Rodger.. david ...syd... richard...and...nick are gifts never to be forgotten.
I hear it the same way!
Truth! It’s a guitar solo that you don’t hear on the album or video. Only here. A perfect balance of waters and gilmour. Total synergy
I'm totally pink
The album version leaves you wanting more and more......
It always reminded me of my 8th grade girlfriend...... just didn't go all the way!!! 😂😂
My favorite solo from Gilmour by far
I was there at this concert, aged 19, still the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
im never jealous, but now i am.... wow.
I was a student just going to see another gig but had no idea what was in store for us. The effects were amazing for that time. Even a plane on a wire coming from the back of the arena over our heads to crash into the wall!
I was there too aged 19 like yourself. Never knew what to expect but my god what a night. I am lucky enough to have seen Floyd and Waters on every tour since. I quoted lines from this song at my Mums funeral last year, "Mother will always find out where you have been"😂 to name but one, so true!
I have been gifted with 70 years of life, four children, eleven grandbabies and blessed with The Floyd as well.
This is truly timeless.

I was 26 when this came out. I'm 70 now and love this even more than I did then. The 60s and 70s were a great time to be young. So many great bands. I got to see so many of them perform, but wasn't lucky enough to see Pink Floyd. That would have been epic.
Who else did you see? I like hearing these things? Also woodstock attendee?
What do you mean they still gig!?
Closest I got to a Floyd concert was sitting in the parking lot at Hollywood sportatorium hearing Roger Waters from the parking lot. I feel your pain.
A man old man
@bobboger1647 saw many. Emerson, Lake and Palmer; 3 Dog Night; The Moody Blues, 3 times; The Hollies; Alice Cooper; Chicago; Styx and several more. Loved going to the concerts.
This version is like 10x more powerful than the studio version... Unbelievable! I mean, Rogers vocals are perfect, the band is playing at full capacity and Davids solo is just epic. They are the best live band to this day, IMHO!
Everything's the best. TT
“ Is there anybody out there”
I agree saw them in the early 90s and best show I have ever seen. The live show from them is usually a spectacle along with being musically excellent and if you were lucky enough to see them one of the best live shows period. They haven't toured for a long time and eventually will be outdone but they were something live you had to experience to know how good it was.
It really is. This version perfect. Vocals. The extended guitar solo. Chilling.
@@TAVMANIAN Roger Waters put on a better show than Floyd did back then
I'm 58 , and thankful to be part of a chosen generation that was privileged to hear what music actually sounds like when placed in the right hands!
Thank you all the bands that made our days and our nights!
Awesome work!!
Turn it up!!
Today's generation will never experience such talent and great concerts. Concerts were epic experiences not just shows.
we are blessed
Here here god bless
i thought this too. But now I look at the music from this young generation and it's just their own spin off Floyd. At least they're trying right?. Lights, weird noises, animation and insults. Pink Floyd has inspired generations for so many years.
@@deannabowlin4350 you are not trying enough, there's still amazing music being made.
This song is a definitive example of Roger’s immense talent. Thank you Mr. Walters.

The Wall is a masterpiece. This song is one of the best on the album.
That Waters could hook an album this good with a movie that deep (touching? Disturbing?) is just incredible.

This song encapsulates the complexity of mother son relationships disturbingly well. A mothers love is wonderfully overbearing and beautiful all at the same time
It’s about the socialist nanny state in England, not a mother and son. It’s about big government and the individual liberties of human beings
@@raythompson5087 Has Roger said this bluntly in interviews, or is this just your own personal conjecture about the song's true meaning?

I’m currently swimming up the ol fallopian tube to inject myself into the awaiting egg while listening to this song.
I like it very much when Waters and Gilmour share their vocals in a song like here. Waters brings an element of "world-weariness" into the song, a bit of melancholy and pessimism, of slight aggression so to say. While Gilmour brings in a down-to-earth element. Waters raises the questions, Gilmour gives the answers. I like them both. They gave so much to us all.
Mr. Kalle: Well said!!
That's a super cool observation/analysis.
YIN n YANG ☯️
Very astute observation...✌
For me, Gilmour's voice brings clarity and calmness. I feel safer with that and Waters' one gives me the feeling that I don't know if I should trust him.
@@floyd4343 okay, but it just sounds like you're projecting your personal issues on musicians that don't even know you... I wish you luck with your insecurities ✌️

One of my favourite Floyd songs, live with an incredible audience, fantastic from the start, with probably the best live version of Gilmores lead guitar solo …..
I agree, there are not many Gilmour Mother solos out there but this is something else. The mid-fretboard da-dada-dada towards the end is, like, ONLY Gilmour.

Darryl, I beat you by 10 years, but thoroughly agree with your comments. We were lucky to live when we did and listen to REAL music.
Ten years behind you my friend
My husband and i sang along to pink floyd on way home from a marathon then two days later he was killed by a reckless driver. Taken me ten years since i have been able to listen to pink floyd again. 😅
The older I get the more appreciation I have for the music of Pink Floyd; and more specifically Roger Waters. What an absolute incredible lyricist. I can’t help but realize how fast my life has passed me by. It amazes me how nostalgic and melancholy I get watching all these videos and really listening to the lyrics. It forces me to examine my life and how I have contributed to this world. All these artists have given us the gift of their music that will last forever...I could never thank them enough.

You have my empathy. I've been without my dad for 30 years now - I let him die in my arms, so he knew he wasn't alone, even while in a coma. He meant the world to me.
I can still hear his laugh, voice, when I want to - back to a child.
It's been tough for me, several times. Few understand what it's like to lose a parent who's also your first best friend, even snuck you into the hospital to visit your best friend, who survived being ran over by a car in front of a 7/11, was in a body cast, except for an arm. My dad claimed l was older, and had to act 4 years older. Her nurse figured it out, but let me stay, my friend was tired. Head nurse chased me out. I walked like a Princess, next to my dad. Downstairs, ran out the door, where we both couldn't stop laughing! He had me wear my Sunday best, and it worked. Brought a card to her, with everyone's well wishes.
You will recall the best of times, the easiest!! I miss him dearly. My mom just had 2 strokes, first one in front of me. Yelled at her, "I'm not letting you go out like dad!"
One of the most powerful songs off the Wall.

100% agree I think this is Pink Floyd's finest song and for me this song has the best of everything. Of course everything they did and continue is amazing and comfortably numb is probably got the best 2 solos but it's this one that gets me every time it's simply perfect. Stay well my friend.....
And to a real Hippie this was the feeling behind our movement (totally organic)
This right here.
My mother used to sing this to comfort me as a child almost every night before bed. i now can’t go a day without listening to it at least once. All I can say when I hear this song is, I love you momma, and thank you.
Did she include the lines "momma's gonna make all your nightmares come true, momma's gonna put all of her fears into you"?
I miss my Mama too. I guess that is the price of love. I would pay it again.

@@hunormagyar1843 No disrespect to the OP, but it's a valid question. The song's pretty dark, it's not a straightforward motherly love song - it's ultimately about how an overbearing mother helps to sow the seeds of later isolation ("of course momma's gonna help build the wall").
@@BallardianI think as I child you don’t listen to the words as deeply, especially at an age where your parents sing you bedtime songs. It still has a beautiful and melodic calmness about which delivers the entendres message. Plus there’s still the lines “mummas gonna keep baby cosy and warm”. Of course that’s not the message of the song but it’s up to interpretation as the listener as well
no other song has made me feel like a baby in my mothers arms so vulnerable and so loved, god bless you
Sorry your mom was so controlling and smothering. That must have been tough
I always thought Waters vocals were so unique and his songwriting was magic.
Pink Floyd, a piece of music history...i was born in 1962, Gilmour and Waters accompanied me through my youth and also as an adult...it´s a shame that they parted...the song reminds me of my youth...my current wife and i were sitting in my car and kissed for the first time while we were listening to the song...that was in 1980, 41 years later we are still together...it was a good time then, much nicer than now...many young people may not understand it, but that´s how i feel...
From 1961 and get your meaning totally
Far from nicer...but glad you enjoyed!:)
Take good care of her, she's a remarkable woman, I too was married in 1980, alas my one true love is gone, I will love her forever, She was also a great Mother, this song is you Babydoll.
Roger at his best. Strong vocals, all around great song.
Im 50 and this song brings back the good old days 😢
I feel bad for anybody that doesn’t know this song... Just sounds absolutely amazing.

"Mother did it need to be so, high". How do you comment that, there are no words, the best line of lyrics ever, probably.
On this one I think he said, "Mother do you need to be so high." Or maybe i just heard wrong.
@@spyrgyro i think you did hear wrong.
He's talking about the wall, asking if it really needed to ne do high
(*) to be so high
Any single line from any song from 40 years ago that can still give me chills and tears at the same time, is THE BEST lyric ever written.
My baby and I saw the original lineup back in the early '80s L.A. She now has cancer and is in home hospice with 24 hour nurses. We celebrated our 41st anniversary last June. Live life, people!
I wish her good luck
God bless you and your baby!
Those nurses are heaven sent, no on comes emotionally close to people in their hour of need than they.
I feel you

Gruss an alle, die dabei waren Einer der stärksten Songs aus einer wunderbaren Zeit
I was at this concert. 19 years old at the time and knocking on 63 now. Was fab to see this and reminisce thinking I was 19 again for a fleeting second lol
Класс, это 1980 г. Они были в Москве! И я был там! Бросил всё и полетел.... До сих пор мурашки от воспоминаний! Всем удачи!!!
You lucky soul
Не помню, чтобы они в Союз приезжали
forty years and this still blowing out my speakers, what a life we have had.
feels good to know that i'm not alone in still listening to this after all these years
Me too!!! Love this... 66 yo still listening to this era of music and blasting it!!! Funny, one of the questions my dr. asked was "have I been around any noise pollution?" I answered "no"!!!
Now I‘m 63. It was of of my favourits when I went to school and I still love it. This song never becomes old 😊
Я из Казахстана, впервые услышал в 70год и слушаю до сих пор!!!!❤❤❤

I remember watching this at Earl’s Court in August 1980. I was 16 years old and was so overwhelmed I cried at this and Comfortably Numb. I’m 55
now...how time rushes by. Still got the album on vinyl and still play it. Class.
72 and the same feelings. JW
I was 16, saw them Feb 80, los Angeles, my first concert, was amazing..😁
I was 17 when I experienced this undescribable masterpiece of a live show,Earls Court,August 1980. My first big show, and still the best concert I`ve ever attended! I must add that The Wall album totally knocked me over - still does! 🤩
I totally understand what you mean..I tear up everytime I listen to this song!
Bernie Ireland that’s the power and majesty of Floyd!
Man...how good is THAT !!!
Just out oft he world! Greatest band ever

Can u imagine if there never would have been pink floyd. What a huge void n humanity
2nd The mighty ZEP take some beating, but Floyd challenge my rating EveryDay!!!
It's freaking beautiful!
Every time I listen to this song, which is very often, it reminds me of my wife and our only son. I was an over the road truck driver when he was growing up. My wife was his life and still is. This song is so powerful!
Pink Floyd was so far ahead of their time. Way ahead of the Beatles and many others of the 60’s and 70’s. In my college days we wore this album out. Never will be forgotten.
Play this on a high end Bose system in an enclosed room with the shades down for acoustics.
You will never feel the same again about this music.
Floyd are also best listened to while stoned. I'm sorry if that offends a few, but it's just a fact.
