    While I was in the Workforce and Technology Center(WTC) back in 2013 under Division of Rehab Services(DORS) learning skills on how to keep my independence while being blind, on the last day of class I wore my Darth Vader shirt and used my replica Darth Vader's Lightsaver as my white cane. It lights up & makes all the original sounds, the humming vibration, wooshing while waving it back & forth, and the 'tsssss' contact sound. I don't use it except to show it to people, but I should because I've been hit by a car twice at the very same crosswalk, once in 2015 and again in 2021, this last time breaking my leg. I like the idea of this product here.

    See Me Cane sounds like an awesome device. I've always wondered why someone doesn't come up with a light up cane, so this is neat that someone has. Their next step needs to be a light up cane for kids, and adults, that looks like a light saber. Make it useful and fun. Light up walkers may also be helpful for people with other disabilities.

      Hi! I’ve actually been working on this, as someone with many crushed parts of my spine. My version is clearly not a cane for the blind (I settled on safety orange, not white) and is a conventional crook handle and length.

    For anybody who’s wondering how much this white cane costs it is $200 plus shipping. I know it seems like a lot but when you add the $75 promo code seems pretty fair to me. However, if I had to pay the full price plus shipping it would not be worth it in my opinion, but there might be those Who look at a tool like this as a investment. Especially it being a rigid cane. Cannot tell you how many Ambu tech slimline canes I have gone through. The one I currently have broken less than four days of owning it and that was just from opening it. Broke under its own pressure. Just clicking connectors in place.
    I did, however, try to pre-order this cane with the promo code. I could not do either. Either he’s getting a lot of traction on his website or his website has some glitches that need fixing. I will try again later and hopefully it’s resolved but if I have to wait until the promo is no good, I don’t think I will be purchasing the cane. But only because I’m always broke!! lol
    Thanks for another great video. Sam always look forward to getting the next new tech for us. Visually impaired/blind individuals.

      @@seemecane I think it's great what you're doing. I remember the first time I purchased my first white cane from maxi aids in New York. I paid 70 something dollars including shipping.
      So I don't want you thinking that I think your cane is way overpriced. Not the case at all. I know it takes time money and you have to get the orders etc. He have to pay people to make these canes, I'm sure over time if you make plenty of sales you will be able to outsource parts cheaper and you will have more sales to lower the costs. I think it is absolutely fantastic that you came out with this cane. It's people like you that are making a difference for all of us.

    I'm legally blind, with only one eye, sort of working, albeit with very narrow field of view, and low acuity. I use a cane to find bumps and dips whilst keeping my vision concentrated on what's in front of me, at head level. I also use it because drivers in this state don't yield to pedestrians. My current cane has high vis reflective tape I put on it, because the existing reflective coating was only a quarter as bright as the sign tape I found. I think I'm going to be upgrading very soon, after having seen this video. But, I'm going one step further. Have to. Going to find someone with a 3D printer to have a light saber grip made for it. I can't let that pass. LOL. Love the features. Sounds like the product is very well thought out. Thanks for sharing this important quality of life update.

      that would be a intersting debate to have. My question would be what about the bicyclist with there blinking fast lights. also what about the blinking lights on the trash tructs. Or even the ones on the contruction zones. I for sure open to this debate. I get the point though. The biggest benifit so so far with the See Me Cane is people can see it about 100 yards away. Making it easier to hear the cars slowing down because of your cane.

  • @kellimshaver
    @kellimshaver Před rokem +2

    I just can't. Maybe if lightsabers weren't a thing, I could, but they are, so I can't. It just looks like you're walking around with a toy, not a tool I can take seriously, and I would expect most people to react to it that way, as well. The general public is (somehow) already confused enough about what the white cane is for. Making it look like it came out of a Star Wars movie isn't going to help. Also, like most tech for the blind, the price even with the discount is ridiculous. I hate to be so negative. I really do, but for me one of the qulaities I like most about my cane is its simplicity. It's a really hard thing to improve on in meaningful, practical ways that are worth spending money on, when you can get a perfectly good one for free.

      @@jeremysanders2565 My gut says no and that it might actually be worse/just obnoxious, but I'd have to see it. I think it could depend on how you implemented it.

    • @seemecane
      @seemecane Před rokem +1

      Thank you for your input. Your help has been valuable in connecting me with two of my good friends. My dream is to create a free option for people, which is why I wanted to discuss the NFB rigid free cane with you. I have noticed that this cane tends to break easily. Additionally, I have been thinking about the effectiveness of the traditional all-white cane with no bottom versus the white cane with a red bottom, which is more easily recognized. However, even the red-bottomed cane may not be very helpful in making others see the cane user beyond just a stick in their hand.
      This is where the power of light comes in. Lights have been placed at crosswalks to help drivers follow the rules of the road, and in my own testing, I have found that lighting up a cane can attract drivers' attention from a distance and cause them to slow down. Moreover, the added "cool factor" of a lit-up cane causes people to take a closer look and think about what the person is holding and doing with the cane.
      It is important to note, though, that a lit-up cane should not be treated as a toy, or it loses its usefulness as a tool. Also, it's best to only turn the light on when needed, such as when crossing the street or waiting for the bus, but turn it off when walking on the sidewalk using cane skills to navigate. This way, the cane is still primarily serving its intended purpose as an aid for the visually impaired.
