"I Got Stoned and I Missed it" and "Millionaire" are my favorites. Both of them will make you laugh!
From the Medicine Show side, in my view *_nothing_* holds a candle to _Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball._ 😁
I fear that song would short circuit Jay and Amber's moral sensibilities!
That is a good song. So is Roland the Roadie and Gertrude the Groupie.
Written by Shel Silverstein. At most of the first 2 albums.
Sloppy Seconds was an amazing Album. I literally grew up listening to them, my Parents were hippies.
Couldn't agree more! I actually requested they give it a try a few weeks ago. I hope they do it. Their reactions will be priceless. 😂
"Yodeling is not an everyday experience"...THAT'S an understatement. I truly love you two, by far my favorite reactors.
People, if you love comedy yodel you need to see The Topp Twins doing "Meet me Mama, meet me at the station door".
Oh, and Amber - you NEED to do their "Untouchable Girls" one female Friday!!
IMAGINE 3 Dog Night and Dr Hook making a Lp together The Laughter and great 70s songs together wooooow lol
Other good ones by Dr. Hook:
"Sexy Eyes", "Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk", "A Little Bit More", "Better Love Next Time".
Man, I forgot how many good songs they had...
I agree, but that's after went a little more commercial
Love this band! Billy (doing the dancing) is from Mississippi! As a teenager, I went to church with his mother. Went with her to a concert and got to meet them all and spend time with them before the show. Great times!
She Was Only Sixteen, A Little Bit More, Years From Now, Better Love Next Time, If Not You, Wzlk Right In, Baby Makes Her Blue Jeans Talk, and I Got Stoned and Missed It, are all really cool songs to check out from them.
Making it natural.
Walk Right In is one of my favourites ❤
Oh my gosh! I remember celebrating the bicentennial! I was in 5th grade and I was thinking “I wonder if I will still be alive in the year 2000?” I am happy to say I made it…I was 36 which sounded SO OLD to a fifth grader! 🤣
Great reaction guys to my favorite band! My favorites are Carry me Carrie and The Ballad of Lucy Jordon.
A beautiful and serious song they perform is called CARRY ME, CARRIE. One of Shel Silverstein's serious tunes. If you react to it then I suggest playing the album version. Once you read the first two verses then you'll know:
"Second Street and Broadway
Sitting in a doorway
Head held in his hands
Looked to all the world like he was praying.
"Foot wrapped in an old rag
Bottle in a brown bag
I saw him try to stand
Then I heard the words that he was saying......"
yep - if you've got a heart - or ever felt the loss of a loved one - that song will may you cry
These guys were a ball. I saw them in concert once. It was one of the funnest concerts ever!! "The Medicine Show" was one incarnation of his band.
I saw them in a club named Scribbles in Wichita Kansas back in the early 90's it was great fun.
I saw them in 1977 in Lloydminster Sask. They packed the large Hockey Arena.
Im jealous
Did you do yodeling???? How could you forget "Hocus Pocus"??
Or Guitarzan.
You was talking about out of the box here is an out of the box there is a song that is out of the box for one of you favorite female Country legend Dolly Parton it is called Mule Skinners Blues I know you will be surprised and will enjoy it and looking forward to seeing you check it out .
😂
Hocus Pocus!!!
You introduced me into an unknown gem of American music. I grew up with Dr. Hooks radio hits, but NEVER heard of this before. Thank you! BTW, "Rolling Stone" was the unofficial anthem of my 10 year old self. Always on the radio, always strange, always had to sing along.
"Millionaire" and "Everybody's Making iIt Big But Me" are two really funny Dr Hook Songs that you should react to next
In 1996, these boys were on the “ Magical Mystery Tour “ bus that we went on, covering all the historical parts of Liverpool that were relevant to The Beatles. ie The Cavern, Strawberry Fields, Penny Lane aswell as the houses Paul, John , George and Ringo grew up in. They were touring the UK at the time. Cool dudes!
I’m all for hearing “Levitate”. It’s on my Dr Hook - Greatest Hits album. It’s so funky & ridiculously hilarious. I can actually picture them trying to do it. I’m in Australia & have loved this band for 40 odd years. Never tire of listening to them ❤
"I Got Stoned and I Missed it" is all FUN in a song from Dr Hook. They simply shortened the title of the band after a few hit songs.
Jewel yodeled as well and you're forgetting your most hilarious reaction to HOCUS-POCUS by Focus.
Another great reaction to some boys just having some fun.
I had forgotten about Dr Hook until I watched the first reaction video you guys did. Now I’m listening to them all the time.
I attended a concert years ago in an outdoor arena where the stage rotated, the concert was called The 70's Superfest, it had Rare Earth, BTO, The Guess Who, Grand Funk Railroad and Dr. Hook.
😁😁
Sounds awesome!
Since you've jumped off this cliff -
Riders In The Sky - "That's How The Yodel Was Born" (this is the act that sang "Woody's Roundup")
Roy Rogers - "Old Skyball Paint"
Saw them and Flo and Eddie open for Sha Na Na in 1972. What a crazy show. Jim
Gotta tell you these guys were an absolutely amazing band live,so engaging and fun. You should try "Carry Me Carrie" or "Cookie and Lylia" they are both amazing songs that I know both f you will really enjoy !!!!
I love his yodeling !! Truly amazing !!!
My 2 top favorite from Dr Hook to get the full depth, Sylvia’s Mother, and On The Vover of the Rolling Stone
I went to a Guess Who concert when I was about 16 or 17 years old. The Guess Who didn't bother to show up so Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show who were their backup band played all night! Entertained all of us. 🥴🤔😆😁
This is amazing, Dr Hook hosted the Midnight Special on March 1, 1974 fast forward to 23:40 for this song FOR MORE FUN
I got to know them when they played at the place I worked,The Starwood Nightclub,in LA. They were such nutballs and I loved them dearly.
RIP Ray. (with the eyepatch)
These guys are so cool and don't take themselves too seriously !!
If you guys like yodeling, you absolutely HAVE to check out Takeo Ischi, and his truly epic song, "Chicken Attack".
"Three Dog Night" live is quite a hoot, as well . . . . .
"the wonderful soup stone"
Just heart wrenching.
So true,
Please do The Wonderful Soup Stone, not a single, but a true gem.
This video was a lot of fun to watch. It is like both of you had said , Dr. Hook is a unique type of band but, a lot of fun to watch. Another great song by Dr. Hook is "Sexy Eyes"
Some of my favorites from Dr. Hook: Sylvia's Mother, Queen of The Silver Dollar, I Got Stoned And I Missed It, Only Sixteen.
A side note: There is no real Dr. Hook. That's just part of the name of the band but was inspired by Captain Hook because of Ray's eyepatch but that's all. Ray is Ray, Dennis is Dennis, Billy is Billy and the rest and the whole band as one is called Dr. Hook And The Medicine Show.
Dr Hook - Everybody’s makin big but me. Funny tune tht mentions Dylan, Elvis, McCartney, Jagger etc
My mother could yodel I loved it! The way she would call us home was the Tarzan yell!! 😂 Gosh I miss her. 🤗
👍👍
Dr.Hook got so many beautiful songs, like 'when you're in love with a beautiful woman' ... 'a little bit more' ... 'sexy eyes' ... and many more :-)
I got stoned and I missed it is awesome!!!! Sylvia's Mother is CLASSIC as is Only 16.
If that doesn't put a smile on your face... So much fun!
Have you done Sylvia's Mother yet?
Yep they've done that one
You've had yodeling on the channel before, Hocus Pocus!!
A great live performance to watch is "Carry Me Carrie" done on Shel Silverstein's houseboat. There may have been a few drugs involved but the energy was definitely there. It's one of those "tug at your heart" songs, kinda like Silvia's Mother.
Here’s some really great funny songs you might also like to react to: Adriano Celentano’s song “Prisencolinensinainciusol” an Italian’s singer’s nonsense song that is what he thinks English sounds like. Also, try “The Remember Song” by Tom Rush. Another fun tune for some quality heavy metal with a Lord of the Rings flavor is Wind Rose singing “Diggy Diggy Hole”.
Queen of the Silver Dollar is a must!!
Well!! I thought I knew every one of their songs! Lol 😂 what a great surprise ❤
Classic Band for sure....👍😊...many hits.. I don't have to mention ...read the comments and you'll get'em all😄
It has always seemed odd to me that many people don't take Dr. Hook seriously as a band. The talent it takes to perform that well while having that much fun is amazing.
They were close friends with an amazing songwriter who also did art work for Playboy magazine and also wrote some very well known children's books. Shel Silverstein, as in "The Giving Tree" and "Where the Sidewalk Ends". He actually wrote "Cover of The Rolling Stone" which they recorded and "A Boy Named Sue" which Johnny Cash recorded. Tell me you have never read one of those books!
He wrote so many of their early good songs.
The medicine show, and laughter is the best medicine. 😃
A couple of years ago my wife seemed to allude to my lack of brains during a conversation. So I broke into a healthy buck dance to prove her wrong. She got a good laugh out of it. :)
The best remaining Dr. Hook songs you have yet to react: A Little Bit More, Better Love Next Time, Sexy Eyes.
The DeZurik sisters were some fantastic yodelers and who can forget Jimmy Rodgers and his Blue Yodels.
YES! I love Dr. Hook. Please do more reactions to their wonderful songs
Jay the Horns Down shirt made my day!!! 😂👍
I got stoned and I missed it. Have to do that next. Peace and love. Keep on rocking. Let's go Hoos
You have to listen Ray Sawyer's song Daddys Little Girl. True story and if you don't have tears in your eyes when it's over you have no heart
Yes is a real tear jerker tissues at the ready
You need to check out "Rollin in My Sweet Baby's Arms" from this same concert. It's a hoot!
_Yodeling_ is rapidly flipping back and forth from your *normal* vocal range, to your *falsetto* vocal range
Strongly recommend Sylvia’s Mother, Queen Of the Silver Dollar, The Millionaire, Freakin At The Freaker’s Ball, Roland The Radie & Gertrude the Groupie, Everybody’s Makin It Big But Me, Carry Me Carrie, Cooky& Lila, I Got Stoned & I Missed It, Acapulco Goldie.
The first album (a round petroleum based product that spun around and when you put the needle down it produced music) I ever bought was Dr Hook in '73 or '74, was Sloppy Seconds. Ray Sawyer has passed away...
It's a harvest time here
It's Halloween almost we gotta get in the mood. Alright? How about The Martian buggy question Mac, i'd smoke. That's when you say some crayons
It's not going to london too especially maintain some wireless Orange avon how does that song where was the london that's warren zavon
But the monster mash it was a graveyard smash
You guys should check out “Levitate”, it’s well worth the listen!
One of my all time favorite groups and s really fun song. I love all their music. I never thought of them as country. They did a medley of fifties songs that really highlight their great voices but I cannot think of the name of it.
Dolly Parton is also a mighty fine Yodeler. Check out her version of Mule Skinner. It was my fathers favorite Dolly song.
You guys have to react to some tunes by Shel Silverstein - he was a a very funny poet and songwriter who wrote some of Dr. Hook's tunes (he wrote both clever, kid-friendly poetry, which many of us GenXers will remember from our childhood, and hilariously raunchy songs for his older audience).
My father used to buck dance. I never saw it. apparently he did it at dance clubs.
You need to react to "Carry Me, Carrie" and "I can't touch the sun"...both serious songs and two of their best.
Dr Hook is always a fun time. And they don’t have one style. They are some of the most beautiful, love songs, Only Sixteen is my favorite, and some of the raunchiest music you’ll find. So be careful.
On another note how about Outlaws….Green Grass & High Tides. Fantastic song….
I loved this band back in the 70s/80s, more for their love songs than anything else. Dennis Lacorriere's voice is just perfect to me.
RIP Ray Sawyer 🙏❤😢🎼
If you want to hear some yodeling! Listen to Jewel - Chime Bells (aka the yodeling song) Live
I love your videos. I've always loved Dr Hook! I know y'all are Dolly fans and if I'm not mistaken, she yodels.
To think this band got paid to have fun. Amazing Band!
Love these guys and your reaction was great. I agree about it being a "rootin' tootin' good time".
Lol my middle finger for your shirt. Great reaction
I've been a fan since the early 70's but i've never heard this song. What a way to start the day! Lol. Thanks for that ❤ have you reacted to "millionaire"? I think you will now get all of the references within the song.
Yodeling and Female Friday. Jewel. She's actually an accomplished yodeler.
Penicillin Penny and Four Years Older Than Me have always been Medicine Show favorites of mine.
Penicillin Penny, Gertrude The Groupie, Freaking At The freaker's Ball, Making It Natural,
Acapulco Goldie, Queen Of The Silver Dollar are Medicine Show classics thta are a fun , happy time.
Awwww...the 1970's 😂✌🤟🖖
Good to see big smiles shot out to the requested
One helluva fun band that created some really great music! Still wish I could share the night with Dennis Loccoriere ❤.
Hi Amber and J. Just watched a vid clip posted by John Rankin. It features Canned Heat song “Let’s Work Together” on Top of the Pops in 1970. Great song, beautiful viewing. I recommend it, and some. 😉
Chickens : You would like Ozark Mountain Daredevils song Chicken Train. also by the band is If you want to get to heaven. (already done) Jackie Blue , country girl and many others that didnt make top ten but are great songs
Freakin at the Freakers Ball and Carry me Carrie!
YEEEHAAAA!! Don't know what they're on - but gimme some! Such a talented and under-rated band!
Them and 3 DOG NGHT Tons of 70s fun.
A good dance song is "Baby make her blue jeans talk". Ray Sayer made a statement after 9-11. He said that he would not cut his beard until they had killed that sun of a ........ who did that. And he didn't. I saw him with a realy long beard, all the way to the middle of his chest.
You'll love Queen of the Silver Dollar
Thank you guys SOOO much for this .
you guys have no idea how many great songs they had. My favorite is "Millionaire" with Ray Sawyer on lead and "I Got Stoned and I Missed It" with the tall guy Billy Francis singing lead as a close second
You guys are the ONLY reaction videos I watch!!!
I recommend this whole concert ( this clip is from it). You never know whats gonna happen next, you can't tell if it's planned chaos, or if they're losing it
"A Little Bit More" and "Only Sixteen"
These guys have so much fun!!
GET UP N DANCE!!!!!!!
"Freakin' At The Freaker's Ball"
Wow! I've listed to Dr. Hook for decades and somehow I missed this one. Billy put on a show with his dance. All I could think about was that deep voice he uses in Get My Rocks Off. :-)
The houseboat “live” version of Carry Me, Carrie will never be beaten. Please react to next.
Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show dropped the "and the Medicine Show" part of their name Sometime after they moved to Capital Records. Thereafter they were just known as Dr. Hook, but it was pretty much the same band with a slightly toned-down (less raunchy) style. For some reason, they also became more successful after the name change.
Uh come on now uh can't be right just can't be right
I was a group, there's a video on this one. Here
Since it's a slight naught Tober I've done harvested blow bad and I had a little tasting it's this song no number we're hair laughing so hard brother. It's hurting my side I got tears rubbing. There's a problem down my cheeks and it almost very funny😅😅😅😊😅😅😅
Do you remember do you remember the best song
Tanya Tonya Tucker Tanya Tucker. She got a video for her song love me
Thanks for that fun reaction from another native Mobilian me❤
This was fun, my dad could yodel! It comes from the throat!❤
Hi, I think ya'll need to check out John Denver singing Calypso. He also yodels in this. It isn't, however, a funny song. It is an awesome tribute song to Jaques Cousteau and his crew and their ship the Calypso. I think you both would enjoy it immensely. Have a blessed day 🎉.
I love this band so much!
