- If you've got a boat, it's critical to regularly check all the hoses aboard and occasionally replace them when they are worn out. If not, you could fill your bilge with water or sewage and potentially sink it. BoatUS associate editor Mark Corke shows you how to spot a worn-out hose in need of replacement and swap it out. In most cases, it's not difficult and could save your day on the water or major headaches.

This is spot on! Another reason for reversing the clamps is that often there is not enough room for 2 clamps and by reversing them you gain about 1/8 inch.
You dropped a bomb at 1:55! Your shorts need changing out. Well done 😎👍
you did not discuss the most difficult part.. removing an old hose that has been on there for years.. use a hose pick
Good point, Bruce. Thanks for watching!
Well my hoses appear to be glued to all the fittings… any ideas?
Hmmm ... that would be really unusual -- and concerning, DB. Are you sure they are glued and not just tight? Were they clamped with hose clamps? Could you send me more info?
Tell me that's not really a plastic through-hull below the waterline...
