      Hello George! I believe the samples used in this video are all built-in and on the board already. On that same topic, as you may already know, you can make your own custom samples and I have a free course for that on my main website. If you are in the U.S. and haven't bought your Nord yet, consider going with Sweetwater to get the 2-year warranty and finance options - I recently became an affiliate and you don't pay a dime more to use my link here: bit.ly/Sweetwater_Nord_Keyboards

      @rodrigoalzogaray968 All that is covered in my pro courses but once you create a split, you can hold the shift button and click on the red "Store" button. This gives you the opportunity to save your program (along with all the split settings) for later user. You'll also be able to name it and place it in a given location all in that same screen - just follow the screen closely after click Shift/Store and you'll be good to go!

    Hi Mark!
    I have a question about the Nord Stage 3 and there's no one better than you to ask :)
    In your opinion, which is the best way to get a realistic Brass Sound in the NS3?
    I'm trying to play with sounds similar as those in "September" - Earth, Wind & Fire, or similar Brass Sounds in Big Bands, Funk songs, etc.
    Thanks a lot!

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 3 lety +2

      @Eduardo Juri I was wondering when the day would come that someone would ask about brass sounds! I have this on my long-range list of things to review and potentially create a video for. Brass, or more specifically, brass stabs are an important role for most any keyboard player where the group isn't lucky enough to have a real brass section (which I assume is the case for most groups). Let me give you a few tips that I use:
      1) Mix a trumpet section with a trombone section each on its own layer.
      A. Use something like "Brass Section Pop 1" on panel A with a touch of release and reverb
      B. Use something like "Trombones Legato" on Panel B with the same settings as panel A as far as the effects and release go.
      C. Turn on the organ engine on Panel A and mix in some bass-like tones to bring out the bottom end. Bring it down 1 octave, bring the volume level to 3/4 (assuming both brass settings are at full volume), and use the drawbars set to 880000000 (on the B3 setting) and leave everything else in the organ engine off.
      This should get you started. Adjust the EQ to taste but start flat and test it against various songs you're working on.
      Then, you must play both with both hands using octaves in each of you're looking for the really big stabs. That's the only way you're going to get that "full brass sound". In some cases, this will be hard to play such as for the song _September_ by EWF. In those cases, you're going to have to play the doubled part in each hand. I just tested that theory and it works "pretty well" (not ideal, but pretty well) for that song.
      Well, hopefully, that gets you started. Yes, this may make a good video. Brass sounds in general are very controversial because it's one of the harder things to imitate on any keyboard. - especially solo trumpet for example. There is a good virtual software solution if you're looking for solo trumpet/trombone or horn: czcams.com/video/PoefakTkCt8/video.html

      @@MyKeysToMusic Hey Mark!
      I've been trying the settings you wrote down. It sounds waaay better than the Sample Alone. Specially adding the B3 bass tones. I will keep working on it.
      Everything that you explained I tried on a new program so I could use both Panels (A and B) as you explained.
      The thing is that when I'm playing September I have the Nord divided into 3 parts. Lower part for a Upright Piano, middle part for Brasses and Higher octaves for Strings. This is were I'm getting confused. Because my Panel A originally was filled for the Grand Upright and Brasses. My Panel B was filled with the Strings. But now that I'm using your approach to create a better Brass Sound, I'm already using both panels to create the Brass sound alone.
      Is there any possibility to divide the piano as I wanted for the song (Piano, Brasses and Strings)? As both Panels are occupied for my Brasses now.
      Thank you for your time and knowledge

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 3 lety +1

      @@eduardojuri9813 Great question but unfortunately I don't have an answer you are going to want to hear. The Stage 3 has two panels and since the synth is being used on each panel, there is nothing left to play the strings. What I've done in the past to get around this situation (besides buying another keyboard) is to duplicate the program. One program has your brass and the other program has your strings (and everything else between the two programs is exactly the same). You can switch back and forth between the programs seamlessly (even if you're playing it while switching). In this way, you may be able to play the entire song between the two programs without skipping a beat. If you want to see a good example of this concept, I have one where you have to flip between THREE programs on the Nord Stage 3 for the song _"Mr Blue Sky"_ from *ELO* www.patreon.com/posts/elo-mr-blue-sky-47503116. This will require the paid membership for the Discovery level on Patreon however so I want to warn you of that. But, it will demo the concept for when it's time to work with more complex songs. _Mr. Blue Sky_ in particular, was the most difficult I've done to date as ELO plays live with not one, not two, but THREE keyboard players!

    Hi, I was wondering if you have any videos on how to create splits on the Nord Stage 4. Also is it possible to create splits using 2 synth sounds, for example a synth sound on the lower keys and another synth on the upper keys. Thanks

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 3 měsíci

      @ferrarilucasdobreplays4557 Great question and congrats on your NS4! So, for the past several months (actually over a year now), I've been working on (and now finishing up) a Nord Stage 4 Master Class that includes everything you ever wanted to know and master on your Nord Stage 4. As such, nearly all my time has been poured into that course, and I don't necessarily have plans to create a split video here on CZcams. The course has over 130 lessons and 27+ hours of video content - all ad-free and subtitled in multiple languages recorded in 4K. That would be my recommendation to you, as it's a proven step-by-step method to master your NS4.
      With that said, yes, absolutely. You can split two synth sounds (three, actually) and have one sound played on the left side and another on the right. You could even have a third synth sound play on either side as a layer or even have it play across the entire keyboard. So, it's very flexible in that way. If you are interested in the master class, my website is www.MyKeysToMusic.com, and there, I have both free and paid courses on most Nord keyboards and related topics. Good luck and if you have more questions along the way, you know where to find me! 🎹

    I just purchased a Nord Electro 6 and your videos are a God send! any plans for a Nord Electro SIX course? I'd pay for that for sure. also, I'm relying on the programs to make my patches and need to combine two of them in a split keyboard as I haven't mastered all the effects yet and am relying on the programs. anyway to put two programs into one on a split?

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 4 lety

      Hi Carol! Congrats on your purchase! To answer your question, you can't automatically combine two programs into one or against a split exactly.
      *Here's what you can do:*
      1) Pick a program that is close to what you are looking for (something to use as a starting point)
      2) Split the keyboard
      3) You have 3 sound engines to pick from (Organ, Piano, and Synth). You can have all 3 sound engines playing against a defined split at one time. However, once you decide on the sound for a given engine, it's the only one you can assign at one time. In other words, you can't have two pianos playing at the same time. You can have a single piano play on any part of the keyboard, but it's the only piano you can have doing so. The same rule applies to the synth and the organ.
      4) You can click "save as" (hold the shift button and click the save button). From there, you can place your new program in an empty location and give it a custom name.
      This would be easier to learn from via video which I don't have on CZcams but I do have a Master the Nord Electro 6 course on the way (to be released December 2019) at www.mykeystomusic.com.
      Keep in mind that what you see above here with the Nord Stage 3 is different for the Nord Electro 6. The Stage has two panels (panel A and B). You can think of the Nord Electro as having a single panel. So, you can't do things like have a bass guitar play from the synth engine while at the same time you have Strings from the synth engine (see #3 above). In other words, you can have only a single piano, organ or synth sound at any one time. Yes, you can mix all three at the same time, but you get one type of sound engine at one time. Hope that makes sense.
      Enjoy your board!

You might also have to first turn your memory protection off in the system settings. When you "Store As", follow the prompts on the screen if you want to save to a new location. • @MyKeysToMusic

      Hello @Sammy Khayo Great question. First, you need to make a single split. Then assign the synth engine on the right-hand side of the split and turn the KB hold on. Then, make sure that the sustain pedal option for that is off. Then you play your F key on the right. Next, assign the piano to the left side of the split and make sure the sustain pedal is on. You should be good to go. Additionally, you can dedicate an entire panel for the held notes. Check out my video here where I use a sustained background effect while playing the piano on top (with sustain).: czcams.com/video/qP2bnApIHbM/video.html

      Hi Lou! Thanks for your questions. The answer is yes to all of your questions. You can make various custom edits and then immediately save them as a "Program" (A.K.A. Patch) in your Nord. You'd do this by selecting the red "Store" button. You can choose to overwrite the program you are on or store it to a new location. (I recommend a video at the end of my comment here to learn more). You have up to 400 locations where you can store programs/patches on your Nord. Note that 300 locations have already pre-defined from the factory leaving you with 100 locations that are completely blank. You can also delete/rename/overwrite the ones already stored from the factory as well. Now, the easiest way to bring up your custom patches quickly is to create a song list. I recommend you watch the following videos/playlists that touch upon these subjects. Thanks for watching!
      I recommend watching my Sound Manager Series. The Nord Sound Manager allows you to create and organize song lists as well as help you organize your programs: czcams.com/play/PLvND2qkkWygoQCy9WDSx3w6XBM-9e4Lkz.html

      And here is the official reason from Nord as to why the bank numbering has changed with the latest OS:
      "In order to facilitate the optional Numeric Pad program selection mode, the program bank structure of the Nord Stage 3 has been modified so that banks now contain 25 programs (5 program pages):
      The programs within each bank are numbered 11-15, 21-25, 31-35, 41-45 and 51-55.
      The total number of Program banks is 16, labeled A-P
      The total number of program locations is still 400
      The order in which programs are placed on the Nord Stage 3 is not altered by this update, and Song lists will remain intact."

      Hi Wolf B. How is the Stage 3? Sorry for the delay in this response. With the Nord Sample Editor software, you can assign various sounds to various keys independent of any splits you might have on the actual keyboard. If you haven’t already, check out my free course for the sample editor at www.MyKeysToMusic.com. Would love to know how things are going thus far for you.

    Why do most digital pianos with acoustic piano patches don't sound like acoustic pianos at all? They sound so flat or metallic on live recordings. Can't the keyboard companies have excellent samples of acoustic pianos including the time the keys are stuck and the sound resonance that travels around the wooden piano board . . . . that should be like that. Just like the piano sound on Chris Stainton's solo on Eric Clapton's Crossroads. The digital piano's sound is so flat and dry.

      Hi Benjamin. I really don't know the answer to this question which explains my delay in answering it! On a somewhat related side note, prior to owning a Nord, I never dreamed a company would go through the lengths they do to imitate "Pedal noise" for example with the Nord Triple Pedal. I always thought that was a step beyond what other manufacturers have done and I find that interesting to say the least. Thanks for your question and for watching...
