Love my size 11's too!!! I was at the Kings try out with you. I'm 51. These are the best feeling skates ever, super responsive, I can feel the difference after a few skates. Play a lot more stand up than most, and these are incredible for mobility. Nice work on view, cowling looks so frankencut, hahaha, I like mine as is.
6 hours of ice time in my Konekts and love them. I baked them once, skated then baked them again. They are perfectly dialed in. Size 9 skates, wore Bauer Pro size 10 fit 2 prior Mobility and control vastly improved. Feels like I’m wearing basketball shoes. I set the lower buckle at the 2nd notch and the upper all the way tight. TPushes, shuffles, butterfly slides, RVH transition and CCuts feel great. Wore them in my house, walked up stairs and vacuumed my living room. We’ll see how the durability holds up in 6 months.
I'm not a goalie (I'm not that silly) but after watching your vids I have a new appreciation of how unique and specialised goalies are. I find that hockey players or maybe just people resist change or innovation if it is done in big leaps. I think that the first model of anything is a lottery as the user becomes the test bed for further improvements of fixes, I remember the resistance to the change to plastic from steel blade runners back in the olden days. Btw those dodgy knees ankles whatever are souvenirs of a life.
coming from a rollerblader (non-hockey boot blades) the thing that has been a gamechanger in that industry is the intuition liner. They are a bit pricier but so worth it.
While I was unsure about Konekt, I think that you addressed most of my key concerns. Like you, I am broken from the waist down and could definitely use more mobility because leaving the top eyelet undone or leaving the top two eyelets looser feels like I have no control on the ice. I may wait for a 2.0 version before spending that much cash, but my collection of Bauer steel (I'm lazy when it comes to getting my blades sharpened) kind of dictates that I will remain in Bauer skates until the day I hang 'em up.
Excellent and fair review! I think from a durability perspective, they may get it right with their future Konect 2 line. As a person with aging hips, this review definitely makes me ponder on picking up a pair
With all Alpha product launches there will be issues. I hope Bauer will hook up with some goalies that are willing to improve the product but also would have to understand this is a trial and error process with new equipment like this going in a different direction. Yes ski boots have been around for a long time but none that are meant to get hit with pucks.
Very similar concept to Lange goal skates. They were all the rage back in the late 70’s. I gotta say they were the most comfortable goal skate I’ve worn. Only problem was they were quite heavy. I’am sure with the advance in materials since then would be a huge difference. I might have to try a pair of these .
Solid review, I just got a brand new pair of Supreme 3S pros, but I can totally see myself a set of these once they wear out, once the tech matures a bit and they fix some of the issues.
Thanks for the review, the skates arrived today. I ordered konekts due to pain and discomfort in my legs in 2spro skates. These are said to be comfortable, so I'm looking forward to wearing them on the ice
Great review! I always hated laces as a goalie, as long as there's some forward/backwards tilt possible, it would surely been an obvious choice I was buying a pair today.
Personally I just push my leg forward / lift my toes (if that makes sense) these days when tightening my laces. That way my ankle has room for that forward and backward mobility.
This is funny. I wore K2 skates modified for hockey in the 90's. Very similar construction, down to the ankle hinge. I'm honestly surprised it took so long for a design like that to make it officially to the hockey world.
I think the biggest issue with goalies complaining about how the skates fit is due to the nature of the skates and the process of molding the skate to the foot. Since these skates are more or less ski boots with blades attached to the sole, one should follow the process bootfitters use to custom-fit ski boots. I doubt most hockey salespeople know about the bootfitting process other than the Konekt fit instructions Bauer provides. There were a couple things I noticed in your video that possibly lead to your issues with foot pain while using them. One was not using the same insoles (Superfeet) while fitting the Konekts that you used in your old skates. As your foot is used to that footbed, switching to a new skate with stock footbeds is going to lead to foot discomfort. Another was keeping your feet on the ground while the skates are cooling. The cooling sleeves are useful if they're cold enough (below freezing); if they're not cold enough, the plastic in the skate shell won't mold correctly to your foot. You want the skate to mold to your feet in the position your feet will be in while skating: seeing you laying on the bench with your feet hanging off the end while the skates were cooling might have contributed to some of your foot pain and fit complaints when you started to skate on them. If these catch on, I wonder if other brands will introduce their own versions of the Konekt?
My son uses the Konekt Skates and loves them. He is 6'1" at 13 years old. We bought size 10 and will purchase a second pair. My son agrees with your assessment regarding the flex and positioning. The original foot buckles broke on both pairs. You can still use the buckle while a replacement has been received. Bauer does send out replacements quickly. Bauer does not send out extra buckles, which sucks. The replacement buckles seem better than the ones that arrived from the factory.
😮 who’s that ultra cool guy showing the attack angle?!🎉 Haha great vid buddy! Was curious about the pros/cons on these cuz I’m not buying them. Always love getting info
Look awesome, I’m not going to buy them however. Mainly because I’m cheap. It looked like there may be a set screw that holds that buckle together. I’m not about to write a thesis on why set screws come loose, but if they came loose once, they likely will again. A small dab of red Loctite on the threads might do the trick (it’s a bandaid, not a solution).
Just spent $5000 on Bauer gear for me and my son. I didn’t like the Mach glover. I reached out to Bauer to get some kind of discount on the hyperlite glover. Basically told me to kick rocks.
When I found out that Bobby Orr skated sockless I did the same and noticed an improvement with my skating ability because the leather was directly upon my skin.
@@trav4oilers Dont understand your question. I haven't competed since 1990. Up until then it was 25 years continuously year round most of the time. But sockless improved foot maneuverability, overall quickness, better feel and blade response because it eliminated any sock movement.
I’ve noticed u have been pushing with your toe in the butterfly and I’ve always been told to push with your whole foot and i am not a pro goalie so is that right or no?
No one can argue that Bauer has ALWAYS been pushing the envelope when it comes to their gear as far back as I can remember (and I’m 50 and obviously no longer play net lol). But it’s DEFINITELY not a good sign when your poster boy hates them and refuses to wear them that’s REALLY not good!
Has the buckle popping out issue on mine literally 2 or 3 days in to having bought them. Just superglued it back in. Also have horrible foot pain issues, found a pair of custom orthotics I got actually marginally helped, but the biggest thing is just breaking them in/getting used to it. Now I wouldn't say it's comfortable, but it's not affecting my performance. Overall pretty happy with them.
Hey Trav, love the insight you provide on all your vids, keep up the great work! I wanted to ask how you go about switching the cowling on skates? Do you do this yourself or have it done for you? If so, do you have any insight or previous videos where you touch on this and show the process of doing this? Thanks in advance!
I use superfeet comfort and baked the liners and did the fitting with them. Tried the stock insoles and my feet killed. I have the micro adjustment on top buckle all the way tight and the buckle all the way tight. The bottom buckle I had to play with and found it good with the micro adjustment all the way tight then the buckle on the first hinge which helped the foot pain. I found when the bottom buckle is super tight it leads to foot pain. I also notice they feel amazing when playing and moving and any discomfort is when I’m sitting or not moving.
Seeing how it allows more free movement from the foot and ankle your small muscles were being worked as traditional ice skates hold your foot and skate in place immobilizing your small muscles in your feet

same exact thing happened to my buckle, I just put it back in and it works just fine but I make sure to keep that buckle done up when its in my bag so I dont lose it.
As someone who has broken my ankle 7 different times and has some issues with mobility and stability does the konect have stability to prevent me from rolling (and rebreaking) the ankle? I have s2 pro right now but the boot sits across the point that I have broken and I am always worried about snapping my ankle again when I T push and C cut across.

The insoles most stock skates come with are crap. You might need to remold them if you plan to use superfeet as they make you proped up more in the boot - thus leading your ankles to hit the boot at a different point

Big skates baby !
Can i find the memory fit shims anywhere? I really need those
only through bauer
full circle, they've gone full circle. hello 70s early 80s....
Yes they have
Can someone else other than Trav help me understand this employee pricing thing and how to get it? Is it for real?
Its real, but i basically finagle my way to get it and bauer doesnt want me to have it
But how do WE get?
Your getting me to exited
good!
You use a 4 mm blades ?
I use 3mm blades!
Will They Make Jr One's?
Not yet
looks like my old microns!!!!
Konekt + cowlings just look so cursed.
STOP that!
Was either these or true one piece skates. If the trues fall apart at the same speed ur konekt’s do I guess we’re both getting shafted by the corporate menace
True is garbage bro
I hate ski boots and love snowboard boots so I will stick with a normal skate.
Fair enough
Langes had a kid.
they looked cool
Dude, I really liked these skates but my buckle broke as well, the silver metal threaded part, ripped completely out and won't hold anymore. These skates are easily the best ones I've used but their durability is shit.
Email warranty. My buckle broke too, but they sent me a new one for free
@@tomcrawford1055 I'm getting a new buckle, but it sucks to spend 1150 on skates and have to warranty them so soon. I''m worried it's going to be an on going issue.
What tom told you
Does you're teammates and coachs get upset you make it all about you and not the team?...
What do yo mean. its a skate video review haha
@@trav4oilers your other videos also.. your in a season your mind should be focused on the team.. not making yourube videos. I enjoy watching them obviously cause im subscribe... but even other teams and season your making videos... if i did that my coachs would think my minds not i the right spot
I want em. Haven’t watched the video yet or seen these skates b4, but I want em. Send me a pair. Thanks!
Just did an updated review :)
Hi
Back to Lange

they def broke!
Bros pads are sponsored by nordvpn
Gotta make $$$ somehow :)
@@trav4oilers fair enough
LANGE
they look like rental skates lol
Kinda but kinda not
You? You of all people is worried about stepping on loose lace??? 😅
What’s with your shoulders skin after the skate?🤔
Also are you sure to be saying that you’re broken from the waist down? Wouldn’t coaches and scouts look for healthy goalies, and also why isn’t your mobility program helping you improve? 🤔
Of course I am! Why wouldnt I be
@@trav4oilers gee let me think…because you’re the guy with 6 feet of lace between your legs 🤣🤣🤣
Watched the whole review, not even a tendy
Why did you watch it then? haha
@@trav4oilers I’m a curious cat
i’m gonna go to one of ur games i love 10 minutes away from big boy arena

They look unreal from a flexibility standpoint. Like your barefoot on ice.
They def feel a lot better!
