who is the lead animator on this?
during the mahoraga train scene i love that they made mahoraga more in scale with himself in the normal fight, that tv animation had him the size of a 20 story building
Dude I loved giant maho. I can’t believe they took him out, I think it fit with how crazy abstract the art style was with the fight.
I thought he grew. It was awesome.
I always laughed so hard at that
I mean he does still turn giant at the end
i think its cool that he adapts in terms of size, too. plus, he still grows while getting domain'd
My body was not ready for Mahoraga and Sukuna’s stare down mid-air
W facedown
This should be called "Director's cut" instead of Blu Ray version
its more "Overworked animators cut"-
"Director's Cleave"
I kinda agree cause this is the only Blu-ray episode where a bunch of new scenes are added
Valid point cuz this episode instead of just like corrections they added new scenes
I don't know, I think it would have been mockery to the animators, this is not even what was supposed to be, even this blue ray version is not finished, they just did what they could to get the best possible animation and show what was intended in the first place before the release of the blue ray. And let's not forget that this wasn't the only episode that suffered from this, it was almost the entire season except for the Gojo arc.
Mahoraga shadowboxing while Sukuna holds the pose is some of the most iconic shit I've seen from Mappa
Bro sukuna literally doing capoeira moves too XD. He dancing with mahoraga.
That was him trying to parry one of Sukuna's slashes
*Weilin Zhang not mappa
@@megarayquaza9054*that was him succeeding in parrying dozens of slashes
@@mysteryman6750 damn, is he not credited???
The shot of Mahoraga’s severed head flying at Sukuna then regenerating to throw a drop kick was insane. If this was the fight we got originally then the Crunchyroll Awards wouldn’t have been so controversial.
It wouldn't have changed anything. The crunchyroll awards only considered the Hidden inventory arc of the anime.
Also, no award for Vinland Saga is always going to be controversial.
@@uddaloknag1751
I agree
Vinland not getting an award is a crime tbh
@@uddaloknag1751 Ya that’s what gets me the most. I did a little survey and most people who voted for JJK counted the entire season, not just the first part. I bet they’ll do JJK again this year counted as the Shibuya arc and it’ll get more votes. And personally while I think it does deserve some awards, Vinland Saga deserved at least one. And personally Chainsaw Man deserved best OP and ED over JJK as well.
@@sibsart2039 I mean the guys at crunchyroll are really dumb if they didn't predict that's what is going to happen.
For next year, some new anime with more hype will overshadow JJK most probably. Crunchyroll awards are driven by hype.
Don't get me wrong JJK is awesome. My favourite new gen shounen. But I don't believe all the awards it won was because of its quality.
@@uddaloknag1751 Ya, JJK is my second favorite current Shonen, with Demon Slayer being my current favorite. And if anything I think Frieren is in the lead for best anime right now.
Once again, MAPPA animators are talented. The production is just held back by time constraint and overworking.
Its not Mappa animators, its freelancers.. like 80% of the top animators aren't even affiliated with mappa.
@@WieldMyWordhmm, but freelancers can be overworked too right?
MAPPA actually outsourced the entire episode (at least the Sukuna vs Maho parts) to the director Hakuyu GO and his team of genga animators,, You can tell it’s his directing style based on his more simplified coloring and line work
But ofc I’m pretty sure MAPPAs in-house in-betweeners, colorists, post-production team still had to suffer 😅
thats any studio @@WieldMyWord
@@cetycon2613at least Learn What outsourcing means bruh
at the very end of the episode, where Sukuna kills Haruta, Sukuna's face is redrawn when he says "get lost"
YOOOO aren't you the same guy who glazes jjk on the animeindian subreddit lol?
@@xandex69you sir have a problem…
@@Obi482 what's your deal bruh
This was one of, if not the best episode of the season but I always thought the animation looked like storyboards at some points. You can definitely see the improvements in the blu-ray.
except for that scene in the blu-ray with sukuna in the flying train car lol.
Yeah this episode and 16 are the best episodes
this episode in blu ray is absolutely amazing bro
Where can I watch this
@@rugwedsonawane5300 you'll have to buy it I think
@@j4ck442 do you know where
Where can we watch the full episode without buying it
@@kaminyx3004 no idea man
i noticed you once said "very nice mappa", i know for some of the other clips you acknowledged the animators and how talented they are but for the other comment i think we should be praising the animators and say their names when we watch their cuts. I definitely think flashing the animators who worked on whatever cut or saying it out loud in the script would do a lot to teach us who our favorite animators are, figuring out your favorite animators is like figuring out who directed your favorite movie. for people who really love the art they will pursue that information to get a better insight on what that art is and how its created, or just knowing who created it. anyways the level of quality on these videos is already S-tier, i appreciate all you do for us to bring these comparisons
Keep repeating this till it catches on. You’re right. I’ll start suggesting the same.
ah yes, let me just remember the names of everyone who worked on this and thank them all by name each time I want to praise an episode.
@@spoon6804 didn’t even say you have to remember them, this is honestly a gross comment, like you’re trying to start something because you have nothing to do. i’m simply saying if you make detailed videos about the changes the ANIMATORS made in jjk, and take the effort needed to make a quality video then imo the least you could do is say the key animators for that cut or just flash them on the screen but nevertheless it’s a common misconception and this dude still makes great content so that’s all i’ve got.
do this for every single studio then not just mappa. 90% of the industry abuses its workers in japan.
@@whipwalka didnt mean anything bad by it, was just a joke. Also when people say that MAPPA did a good job I can safely say that they're referring to the animators and not the executives.
Still crazy (and annoying) to think that is probably only half of what they could’ve done, if only they had more time…
its 100% complete, but they probably want to add more scenes, art and animation is completed, this how it had supossed to look and i really like it. This animation-art is so "awful", but its good because its making this fight a lot more dark and maybe for someones even a bit "scary"
@@9Michauno it was 30% done
@@Animeeditz1982no 30% of the planned things were done, the episode is 100% done, don‘t mix it up.
This is how aot fans feel
@@Animeeditz1982which one dawg, the TV version is indeed is not fully done, but the blu-ray is 100% finished..

5:19 Damn didn't know Sukuna had two forms, must be his ancient technique from the Heian Era
Whoops! My bad.
11:29 they also add heat effect on the explosion, making the air wavy or something
I like that they improved on what needed it instead of completely redoing it, I really like the floaty almost ethereal look that a lot of the fight had even if it made it look unfinished. that new train scene, and the spin on mahoranga is how to do that style right.
Genuinely and quite honestly, they fixed and cleaned up all my problems I had with the (unfortunately) rushed animation MAPPA animators had to deal with, mind blowing
Blu-ray version was incredible and didn't disappoint at all. Really shows what these animators are capable of if they were given better work conditions and time.
I only have one tiny nitpick and that is I actually prefer the plane crash scene in the TV version. It was a much needed reprise in a hectic and insane fight and served to ground the viewer and build up suspense.
I have personally never seem so many changes made to a BD version ever. Its insane the amount of effort the animators took to release this.
However, there were two things in the TV released version I liked better than the BD and that was Hisashi Mori’s sequence with the lights in the background before Megumi summons Mahoraga. The other is the water explosion in Maho’s pool sequence because there seemed to be less visual effects which I thought were amazing in the TV version, and in the blue ray you can’t really see them since it was so dark.
But nitpicking aside, this is truly an all-timer in my books, and we have to thank Gosso and Hakuyu Go for putting this together man.
You've never seen anime made by SHAFT then.. They purposely made their TV anime so bad so people buy the BDs
Thanks for the comparison. I wish more people compared the animations
Your welcome.
Ive been waiting for this!!
The animation popped off this season. It’s a shame that we weren’t given the full completed episode, I wish MAPPA understood that people are willing to wait if it means a higher quality show and the animators getting to see their families
S2 animation>>>>>season 1
YO THIS IS SICKKKK
I have no other words to Describe.. but amazing 👌🏾😮
I couldn’t finish this video. I just have to re watch the episode in blu ray. It’s too amazing! I’ll give it a thumbs up and subscribe tho!
where did you watch it
Decided to catch up with the manga when this arc started. When I was reading, I accidentally completely skipped the chapter(s) where this fight happens, so this whole thing was a pleasant surprise.
wow it’s night and day. love it
I agree with your tastes in every regard except for the Maho having more details. In TV sickly white with slight glow and almost no shades made him look kinda ethereal, out of this world, divine even. Other than that it's 100% an upgrade. Especially liked the stare down they had while soaring and the expanded airplane scene.
Bluray is astonishing, I love it more, some scenes make sense now, I understand them. However that flame arrow from TV version I like more. idk it just feel more dangerous
Man at this point they gotta add it as a type of special On CR
10:12 how many frames of animation should we put?
“Yes”.
Great video
Excellent comparison, thank you very much 👍
Glad you liked it!
I like how they added more particles and objets to interact with the 3d cinema release
I’M GETTING SEIZURES WITH THIS ONE🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️‼️‼️‼️‼️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Mappa creators can finally see their families
thanks !
The sound also sounds a bit redesigned love it❤
MAPPA animators had to deal with rushed animation, yet they honestly and genuinely rectified and cleaned up all my issues. It was mind-blowing.
I think this was the vision they said they wanted and now that production is over they finally could see it through.
Well done highlighting the difference, just a comment for future videos tho. If you could put a label for which is blue-ray and which was the original from here on that would be cool. Sometimes I wasn’t expecting it to change from the original to the new versions so I feel like I had to go back and replay a few portions.
Actually, the previous version also made me watch it over and over again, even though it was only 30% completed and there were still missing scenes..
TV is a colorless image and Bluray colorizes it
Hope CSM Movie will be as good as this, fighting animators
For gods sake, it wasn’t 30% completed, it was 30% of their intended vision.
Not how finished the episode was..
How do people still say that the tv broadcast was 30% finished when it was atleast 70%
might as well be 30% "completed" because the animators should've been able to do 100% of their vision if it wasn't for the terrible schedule
@@Robin503 I honestly think that, at this point, people that still don't like this episode is because they got so brainwashed by those statements and they are so convinced that they could have watched something better than this... 😂
@@goob17 The animation wouldn't have been better like all of the kiddos are saying tho, just the pacing + choreography and 30% could be an exaggeration.
God damn, they made the fight even better
feels like they extended the fight more longer and added way more details for the blu-ray version
This blu-ray edition got me flabbergasted
Great video 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I like how they improved masterpiece to next level if they didn't re designed wvery every thing but they didthe greatest work to make it fabulous undineably
Sukuna was pump faking Mahoraga so hard in the new scenes 😭
i loved the blu ray version but i can't belive mapa doubled down on the "you are my special" bit lmaooo
Where did you watch the blu ray version?
One weird thing is how Mahoraga’s size in relation to the train changes from one cut to the next, and the train’s length in relation to it’s is the changes between the cut where Mahoraga throws it and when it hits the building.
5:03 you can actually see that the blu ray version of Mahoraga is way smaller then the tv version
Holy we got robbed 😭😂
OMG the issue with the dimming is probably the biggest improvement of the Blu Ray, makes it so much easier to follow whats going on in the fight as well as just make everything pop more.
wow, good eye man
The scene with Sukuna's Fuga would've been fine the way it was to me if it had more frames. I think the contrast of the fire and then everything else being black is great.

Day 5 of pleading for mappa to let their workers sleep
Honestly, I can see how some of these scenes could lead to seizures, especially when Sukuna uses Cleave on Mahoraga for the first time
Now imagine that there are people who said it's the same and didn't change anything.
I want them to take as much as time they need for season 3
Espero el episodio 16 :')
No way, better results because the animators had a little bit more time? That's crazy, isn't it, Mappa?
I really miss Season 1 animation style...
amazing video!
This shit is like if Murata's retcons and re-draw of One Punch Man were taken to an actual anime. It's absolutely insane the dedication they put into this blu-ray edition.
“Mahagara” 😭
Sukuna used his movie magic technique that he hasnt used since the 1970s
this episode was great before, but now its actually perfect. axcept for a few scenes. But its for sure the best blu ray episode of 2 season of jjk for now.
LOL they really left the You are my Special at the end? Still 9/10 episode no way around it.
4:01 how is bro just walking on the air💀
He is not
They done took away Mahoraga's giga chin in some of the scenes 💀
bonkers good
People talking about this looking bad or like a fan animation are proof that someone understanding the intricacies of an art form has a direct correlation to someone’s ability to enjoy it. These are the same people that go to 5 star restaurants and ask for macncheese and Dino nuggies. They’re basic. Ignorant. They have no taste. They don’t get it. They see pretty heavily processed colors and well masked cgi and think demon slayer is the best thing ever put on a screen.
Example: You may hear the guitar popping off in a really well made rock song and think that it’s good, mid, or maybe even not all that impressive, because you don’t truly understand what you’re hearing, but a person who knows and understands the art form of playing the guitar, as well as music composition, is going to enjoy and appreciate it more.
I dont see how any of that matters
@@justduro1527 they’re just further examples. The obvious thing is that this shit is gas. I’m just explaining why I think some people can look at it and somehow think it’s bad even though it’s very clearly very well made.
nah because you're so right and it pisses me off. I've been getting more into animation lately and it's made me see how utterly clueless most of the anime community is with their understanding and expectations behind it. People barely know the names of the actual animators and just credit studios, they think more detailed drawings than you can screenshot and have look pretty = better animation, they don't realize animators can play around with shape and form and just call it weird and "not detialed enough". And even more problems but it's just kinda sad tbh
@@thiccychiccy1157 see you get it. And to be fair, I think most people, even the average consumer, do. But there’s an alarming chunk of people that are so unbelievably basic and conceded that it actively hurts their ability to enjoy awesome stuff like this.
I think what DS does is mix CGI, good art and well animated shots in such a manner that it still looks good plus well animated and they do it consistently. But it doesn't mean other styles of animation are not as good, this fight is better than Gyutaro's fight in some ways, but some people just don't appreciate it and that's sad, even now I saw people saying this was shit.
WOW
I literally just watch this episode pre blu ray and I got lost in the fight I'm gonna check the blu ray out.
Best fight in all of anime
Not best fight in full anime but most intense fight in all anime
5:05 whenever I watch this cut I just can’t take my eyes off of the random pole that just materializes mid scene 😑
(On the left)
I'm not a fan of every change in the blu-ray, but the extra added scenes and the final fire arrow were GODLIKE.
really liked this video thanks
Your welcome. Glad you liked it.
There is one thing I'm really curious about, and that is the cut at 12:22 where Yuji is stunned.
In the TV version, when Sukuna is still there (just before the side-tail trash is killed, I think), the exact same thing is inserted in a strangely long scene, right?
It could be interpreted as a staging, but I was wondering what's going on there.
My theory is that it was put there to make up for the part that didn't make it in time.
Where do I give my money DIRECTLY to mappa's animators?
10:29 Bob Ross I swear
MaHORuga bro did not need to insult him like that
Sukuna making plane falling...💀💀
This is them fixing their rushed work during the crunch. The execs better give them more time next time and more money.
it would be nice to see this version on crunchyroll
Eu ja quero assistir essa versão do blu ray❤
Imagine mappa animators trying to go on holiday after season finishes and these mf's are like, 'come back and redraw thse shadows for no reason on these 10 scenes that no one without the bluray will ever see!'
Thank you guyz! < 3
Re-animated scenes were for sure, and those were DEFINITELY worth finishing, these guys really deserve a break now! :(
Most of the shots are 0.4-0.7s max, and will have taken extra days.
Appreciate this in-depth breakdown however!❤
Where can i watch the upgraded episode? Pls send link? The site i use doesnt have
It took bluray for Mahoraga to not look like as if he was drawn in ms paint, to look consistently the same, and to have proper shading.. but I take it..
bro if that was 30% then just keep doing that i think it looks amazing still
incredibly sad this had to happen to the anime, not only this episode suffered, the fight between mahito and Yuji also was heavily affected by this with backgrounds that don't even correlate between them in some shots
Waaay better bruh
I liked the TV fire better ngl. The cranky animation made it have a unique aesthetic ✨️
yeah that was a absolute banger

It's cool to see the comparisons, but I just want to know how the hell do I watch the Blu-Ray version? Is it even technically released globally yet?
