The stationary terminals used predominantly in private owned businesses that are hooked up with the Ethernet cords should have the Bluetooth built in for the Square Reader as well, at least for newer versions. For online purchases, large retail chains' websites should accept the SqReader through USB connectivity (or Bluetooth whenever PCs are implemented) from the PC or Mac using the cards' EMV chip for card info protection. But then phones can do that too.

Now that you have the hardware, are there any sort of standardized fees or charges associated with the transaction from financial institutions? Typically banks do implement service fees for such a thing. It would certainly be great if that wasn't the case. Also do you need to have an official 'business' account for eftpos? It would be slightly misleading to suggest that the availability of the hardware is all that's necessary to facilitate eftpos and credit transactions.

+Priscilla Flores You don't turn it off and it took me an obnoxiously long time to find that info on their website. "To power on, push the power button. Once it's on, you don't need to worry about turning it off. The reader will automatically go into the appropriate mode when not in use to save battery."You will find that quote in the "Settings and Pairing" Frequently Asked Questions section. However, you can reset the device by holding the power button until it flashes red. This apparently disconnects it from the phone - which in effect, turns it off... maybe.
