Let's face it....Anette's voice was not special. In fact, so much of her live performances were cringingly flat. She would be a prime candidate for Autotune. Anette is lack-luster when compared to Tara or Floor. Sorry Anette, but your vocal style is non-discript and more suited for bubble gum music.

@@HistoryBuff yes Floor is married, 2 children, I think there's abit of confusion, Floor never auditioned for NW, it was after Tarja that auditions took place in which Anette was chosen over many other better singers in my opinion, they wanted Floor no question after Tarja since they knew her from touring with AfterForever a few times, but Floor was fully committed to AF, mid tour 2012 when Anette was fired they called Floor and asked her to finish out the tour and learn the setlist in 48hours, tho by the time of Wacken it was evident she was their 3rd & "final " vocalist according to Tuomas.

Floor for me, some of the original fans go with Tarja. Both Floor and Tarja are great singers, Anette not so much in my opinion. Floor is perfection for me, when I first heard her to now, I am mesmerized by her. For me Floor is the greatest singer I have ever heard, any genre or time.

I found NW during Annette time, I love all 3 singers, you can't compare because they are different. I have almost their complete collection but for me Floor is the Valkyrie Goddess, she commands the stage, sings in 7 languages, operatic, growl, pop, rock, metal....says it all, enjoy your NW ride, it is absolutely amazing
As old Nightwish fan I enjoy all 3 singers but, in my opinion, Floor is on another level, her own level..

Because of the children. When Floor is on tour, Hannes stays at home and vice versa. You live on a ranch with horses ,lots of nature ,dogs ,cats. So there is enough to do for the children. They are probably not parked in front of the TV.
Nightwish's last album Human¦¦Nature was released just as covid struck so they had to cancel their world tour. As soon as Lockdown ended they started a tour which finished around July this year. They are currently in studio finalising and recording their next album which is due to be released sometime next year.
Floor took her first born Freya with her on Tour aged 1 till 2. The Covid situation came at a time that Freya was 3, so Floor and Hannes could spend some quality time with her in those years. Floor discovered CZcams in that time also and the amazing results are uploaded by her on her channel. She also found her 'own' voice to start a solo career on the side after her breakthrough as a mainstream artist in The Netherlands following her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers'in 2019. Her solo show in Amsterdam 2021 is worth a watch, singing 21! songs from her impressive career. She stated over and over however that Nightwish always will come first.

At this point Floor had been with Nightwish for 10 months. Most fans had not seen her yet with Nihgtwish. She was known to them. Her first band, After Forever, toured Europe with Nightwish, and had even played Wacken themselves a few years prior. Wacken was the biggest concert for Nightwish (at that time), they were the headliner, the last performer right after Alice Cooper. Nightwish ended the concert around midnight.

I got to know and love Nightwish with Tarja and thought it couldn't get any better. But Floor is vocally and empathetically out of this world. (Just my own honest opinion)
Today they announced that they have started to record the vocals for the new album that is out next spring.
Only reason some go with Tarja is because she was first with Nightwish and so on. For newbies checking Tarja and Floor out for the first time, Floor's everything puts Tarja to shame. Tarja is operatic 100% of the time, Floor has a 100 voices and textures she uses. My personal opinion cause until 4 years ago, I didn't even know who Nightwish was. So I checked all the singers out, including Anette, and Floor is just the whole package compared to the other two. 2013 Nightwish concert is the best concert in history of music. I'm 75 and I know what I'm talking about.
Just a point of note... During the bridge, that wasn't the audience singing. That was the London Young Musicians Children's Choir. In other songs they frequently collaborate with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Metro Voices of London Choir who supply the frequently heard gospel choir tracks.
Just minutes ago on Finnish TV there was a talk show where they have 3 guests every week. Each guest makes a song request, and the host chooses which song will be played at the end of the show. Tonight one of the guests, a woman who has visited 197 countries, wanted to hear Storytime by Nightwish. But another song was chosen to be played.

The guy in the hat (there are others like him interspersed in the audience) is a health/safety guy. 82,000+ people here. I bought my ticket in 2012 (they usually sell out a year in advance). When I bought my ticket, Anette was the singer. Most of the Wacken attendees were not expecting Floor, though after the first song the audience grew rapidly more content with the change. Floor was hired to complete the tour only at this point. When Anette was fired in October 2012, Floor was called (she was at her sister's wedding). From that point, she had 48 hours to learn the set list of 15 songs. Fortunately, about half the set list was songs from the Tarja era (and she is a friend of Tarja - she was familiar with some Nightwish music).
I came across Nightwish after Floor singing phantom of the opera with Henk Poort at a Dutch television show named "beste zangers" (best singers), that was zo amazing!!!!!! Somebody told me to listen to her and that she was also singing with Nightwish. I can tell you that Nightwish gave me back music after not listening for over 30 years not listening to the radio stations anymore, got sick of the "quick moneymakers, every hour on the hour. Btw, still not listening to radiostations. What a band, such nice people, having fun making their music if i had listened to Nightwish before Floor i would have stopped listening so i am happy. Im a 90's and before music girl too. Im also a classically trained piano teacher. Nightwish has everything about music i love. I basically only listen to Nightwish (all songs and singers) and classical music anymore. Floor is my favorite female singer while Marko is my favorite male singer.
NW always brings joy in my heart. I discovered them last year. Im still obsessed. 😊
I started listening to them in 2000 and saw them live with Tarja in 2003. But I also started listening to Floor's band After Forever in 2000. I liked Tarja but stopped listening to them when they replaced her with Annette. When Floor replaced Annette that brought me back to the band and I prefer Floor over Tarja. But some of the original fans still prefer Tarja and that's fine, to each their own. They are both great singers. Check out Tarja's new Xmas album "Dark Christmas", she just released a bunch of videos for it. Floor just had her second child and should start working on the vocals for the next Nightwish album soon, the music has already been completed.
I disliked the band with Tarja when I first heard them in 90's (later learned to survive her). Anette shined in studio. Haven't heard a bad performance by her in album versions. She had some good live moments "Scaretale", "Slow, Love, Slow" but yes, Floor wins it for me. She brought me back onboard with Nightwish and finally I understood what this band is about.

They usually have backing tracks with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and their choir. There are several other choirs they use including one with boy sopranos. That is why they are called Symphonic Metal. The keyboardist Tuomas writes the symphonic parts also. Everyone called Tuomas the Metal Mozart.
Nice to see your wife interested, The most recent albums with Floor have a lot of historical and scientific tidbits to discover in the lyrics, including from the invention of music and Greek mythology, as well as song Endlessness, imho, written from the perspective of The thief, Hermes.
btw, the background voices were a pre-recorded London choir with a symphony, not the audience, although the audience will sometimes contribute, such as when Floor gets the audience to sing some of Amaranth for her at Wacken. It is worth watching to see Floor manage the crowd, and Tuomas amazed.

I discovered Nightwish back in the early 2000s... liked it and listened to them occasionally, but I wasn't a huge fan, mainly because it was so hard to find their music in the states then. Then I saw them for the first time in 2012 with Annette when a friend dragged me to a concert in Copenhagen, but I didn't become a 'fan' until I heard Floor with them for the first time during lockdown.

Floor joined 'Nightwish' in October 2012, she had 48 hours to learn the setlist and fly from the Netherlands to the U.S. This show was in the summer of 2013 (8 or 9 months later and still not an official member of the band)

A true Nightwish Fan do NOT compare the singers. We probably have our favourite singer. All three singers have their inpact on the Nightwish evolution and each era has their strong songs. The one that can sing all of the eras songs and do them justice, is in my opinion, Floor. She is also my favourite singers as she can perform in a more various wasy and has her grip on the audience. Her presence on stage is untochable.
Floor is married to Hannes Van Dahl and they live a quite life in the woods of Sweden with their two daughters, horses, dogs and cat.
Floor never tried out for Nightwish when Tarja was let go. Floor was the one that filled in for Anette during the 2012/2013 tour (her first gig was on Nov 1st 2012). She was annouced the new permanent singer in late 2013, but she and Troy got that delivered (i was told) before the Wacken show but it was officially announced later that year.
So that was our Valkyrie Queen.
As a reactor, it’s dangerous to say one singer is better that another for fear of alienating some subscribers. As a reactee, I don’t have that problem. Floor does everything better. She sings every genre beautifully. After Tarja got fired they tried to get Floor, but she wasn’t available. 😄🤘

I understand what you're saying, which I why I responded the way I did when she asked. At the same time, just how "dangerous" is it? At the end of the day, it's my channel and there are a lot of things I've said that's riled up the comments, but I don't regret any of it. I try to be as genuine as possible. People will always take issue with something, no matter how hard you try to please everyone. Not worth losing sleep over it.
Never take anything I say as serious. Jokes in my head sometimes don't translate well to text. Just be advised, they have the Nightwish Army backing them, which could end all wars just by having a Metal concert. (Disclaimer: I'm kidding. I'll follow up with some emojis.) LOL 😂🤣🤘

Floor had been with Nightwish for about 10 months at the time of Wacken 2013. As far as it being the first time the audience had seen her live…not really. Floor was very well known, especially to European audiences, long before she joined Nightwish. Her first band, After Forever, shared a lot of fans with Nightwish and even toured Europe opening for Nightwish. Her second band, reVamp, was also very active on the European festival circuit. As a matter of fact, when Tarja left the band, Floor was a fan favorite to be her replacement (obviously didn’t happen that first time around). Also,Nightwish didn’t “get rid of” Marko…he resigned (from the band and from music, in general) for mental health reasons. Personally, I think all three vocalists are brilliant in their own way, and I enjoy listening to all of them. However, I do believe that Floor is the most versatile and since I was a fan of hers since the After Forever days (before I even heard of Nightwish) , she will always be my favorite.

Who did it better? Well, you asked. I guess it depends on who your Nightwish are. My Nightwish are the ones who I came to know at the beginning of the pandemic, especially via Ghost Love Score in Wacken, and that's the band that helped me tremendously during the pandemic, along with three other artists. I have never even heard a song with Annette, and I have seen Tarja a few times, but I just didn't 'grow up' with her. She might be a fabulous singer, but she's just not 'my kind of beer', as a German would say. Greetings from NW army Pacific Division, Maui.
I go in Nightwish music with Oceanborn album..long time ago..and Tarja sing,then Annete..she is good but not match with NW..then FLOOR..and live..damn she is really Valkyrie Queen..Storytime song is exspecialy good performance..and whole Wacken concert is AMAZING..and your reaction is also excelent..

Who did it better ? Floor without hesitation, in some old songs like " wishmaster" no one can beat Tarja not even Floor , but in overall Floor is the Valkyrean Queen aka Godess of metal 🤘❤🤘

I wil correct a bit: Floor Jansen (a lady from the same country as I) was a member of the band since the Imaginarium World Tour true the USA where she took over from Anette Olson in 2012, so she was already almost a year the singer of Nightwish when Wacken 2013 happend. She tourend already South America, the UK and Japan/Australia wiht Nightwish before Wacken open air 2013. This was also the first performance that she knew she would be a permanent menber and singer of Nightwish. Togehter with Troy Donnockley who became a permanent menber of the band at the same moment also.

Just a quick word. Marko decided to quit during the Covid lockdown as he had become disenchanted with the music industry taking such a huge chunk of the profits. He is performing again now but has more control over his own fate. Floor is actually 183cm which is just over 6ft. but in heels.. the sky's the limit and she is by far the most versatile singer as she is now even singing many of Marko's parts !!

p.s. Troy is in this concert, just not all songs, and they did not get rid of Marco; he left to take care of his mental health issues so withdrew from public life for almost 2 years. He also wanted a break due to the crap the industry does to stifle artists creativity, not serve the fans, and only profit off artists, while issuing limitations on them. Now he is doing what he wants, when he wants, or as little as he wants, so it's less stress. We wish him well.

In the interest of historical accuracy, a few points.
Floor is not classically trained. Her formal education was at the Rockacademy Tilburg (Dutch spelling Anglicized), where they of course do not teach classical singing. She was not pleased with the vocal teaching there, but got to meet Edward Hoepelman, who apparently is a great vocal coach who she asked to give her private tutoring. After graduation, she did some classical training and some training in musical theatre. So basically she has some classical training.
Floor self describes as 1.83 meters, which is almost exactly 6 feet. She looked a lot taller on stage because she was not shy about wearing heels. The heels are gone now, partially because the new bassist Jukka is really tall.
Nightwish was not big in the nineties. Their breakthrough album is Oceanborn which was released in the spring of 1999 but there are recordings of them performing in an Italian supermarket in the summer of 1999. Not big at all. They did keep steadily growing with Tarja, resulting in two more albums and two excellent live DVD's. With Annette they stagnated. I personally lost interest then. After Floor joined, the interest started climbing again, especially in Europe. Their best years are the teens and twenties.
Nightwish has had nothing new in a while? Human Nature, the virtual concerts in lieu of the Covid-cancelled years of concerts, the resumption of touring in 2022, a number of excellent CZcams videos from 2022 with full concerts from Pinkpop, Hellfest and especially Deichbrand. And of course there is a new album on the way for 2024.

Great reaction! I won't go into the issue of their best front women (As you obviously don't either...LOL). I will say that your wife adds a lot to your content. Now, as she is a Historian, I would be remiss if I didn't recommend the Sabaton song "Christmas Truce" (especially coming up on that time of year). Sabaton/Nightwish or Epica are a potent combination for reactors. I am one of many that will assuredly "sub" to your channel. All the best...TC

I get the feeling that your wife really wasn’t into it. She wanted to talk about everything but the music. But, let’s face it, symphonic metal isn’t for everyone.
I started with Anette and her two albums and I still think that they are outstanding. I now own albums from all three, but Floor is totally on another level. The Tarja cult will disagree, but there's no reasoning with a cultist. I no longer bother trying.

(but we have lots in common).2; Floor was 10 months with the band and started in Ocktober 2012 ,was officially (together with Troy) a member in June 2013,but made it public at the end of November or start of December 2013.
Of the 3 singers Floor is definnitly the most versatile singer and very technical,Tarja is the most operatic voice and seen as the most influencial for mixing metal with opera, Annette was poppy/mainstream and good in the studio but live,people thought/think she was to light for the "metal"genre.
All 3 singers have their own fan-base and it's just preverence. Marko was/is also a very good singer ,he is greatly missed and now Troy took over some singing parts but does not have the power Marko had.
Jukka (drummer)had insomnia and is replaced (2014/15) by Kai,wich also is a excellent drummer .Marko(bas/singing) is replaced (2020/21)by Jukka,but didn't sing yet,but maby on the new album he is doing some . Floor just had her second child +/- 2 months ago and is now recording for their new album.😉🤘

Good call, going with "Storytime." I think it's a much better introduction to Nightwish than GLS, because it's a lot more accessible for new listeners.
Regarding the singers, Floor is my personal favorite (not just of Nightwish), and I think easily the most popular of the three, though Tarja still has a lot of diehard fans, and has a pretty successful solo career. Of course, Annette has her fans too, but she's not in the same league as the other two, either in terms of talent or popularity. Those two Nightwish albums with Annette were indeed great, but I think they'd have been great with any competent singer. I personally don't think she elevated the music (other than maybe "Scaretale").

I think all the singers were probably the best fit for the band and where the band was musically at when they were with the band. When they ceased to be, the singer changed. Having said that, my favourites are Tarja and Floor. Tarja, because I am Finnish and listened to NW since early days. She was something unheard of, unique and different in a metal band. Her voice is like ice cold crystal in an extremely cold, sunny February day in Lapland. Powerful, cuts like a dagger. But Floor has it all - emotions, warmth, pain, joy, high, low, growl, opera, classic, pop, rock. Her stage presence is second to none and I think the band is at their peak with her. Poor Anette was put in an unfair position when she had to perform songs made for Tarja. That was just not her style, but sings written for her are great. Overall, the safe answer here is - Marko. Because it means you love them all.
Well who did it better. Some songs Tarja did the best, some songs Anette did the best. But for the most part I like Floor the most. Especially when performing live.

Thank you for doing a song other than GSL... Don't get me wrong, I love that one too, but every channel does that one. And your wife is right. Floor was absolutely a goddess on the stage that night.
FYI, there is a new Nightwish album being released in September, and the new single from that album will be released on May 21st, 13 days from today 😄
You have to bear in mind that Wacken is a festival- not a specific nightwish only audience.
I was there and among us non Nightwish fans( of course we had heard of them) Floor was liked very much.
She has more of a "metal"vibe, yet is versatile enough to pull off the classical singing, great stage presence as well.
I revisited Nightwish with the other singers, but they just don`t do the trick for me.
I since bought all their live CDs.

I'm "an original" fan of NW. There is Tarja songs, Anette songs, Floor songs and songs Floor have taken over.
Needless to say that I'm a Floorfan 😂
But anyway: I follow Tarjas solo career closely (and love it), also Anette have her projects. I can enjoy all of that 😊
If you ask 100 Nightwish fans as to which singer they prefer you are likely to get different answers.....my opinion is that they are all amazing and super talented singers and I prefer each of them for different songs. I prefer Tarja for some songs (especially Nemo, Elvenpath, and Wishmaster), Annette for some (7 Days to the Wolves, Meadows of Heaven) and I prefer Floor for still others like (Ghost Love Score, Storytime) and so on. They each have their own flair and added something special to the catalog of music that is Nightwish.

No need to choose a favorite singer of the three, just enjoy/appreciate each one for what they each have brought to the table! That said, Floor is my favorite female singer of all time! Interesting to hear you say that Nightwish's music is not as 'deep' lyrically as it used to be. I disagree! IMHO, Human/Nature is the deepest, most thought provoking album yet and I'm really looking forward to what Tuomas comes up with next! From my perspective, Nightwish is a thinking person's metal band!🤘

In any song, it's not a matter of who does it better. It's a matter of savoring the version. There's an example that says "The Sound of Silence" covers show nuances to the song that Simon & Garfield's version didn't show. All are great. One isn't better than another.

all ex members brought something in the band, they weren´t this band without them.
Tuomas (composer and lyrics on 95% of their works) was able to compose other music as they parted with Tarja.
Because she refuses to sing in other vocal styles, Tuomas wasn´t able to compose as he wanted to, that changed with Anette
Nightwish asked Floor before Anette, (and a lot of other great vocalists), but Floor wanted to go with their own band ...
Composing with Anette brought a lot of good stuff in the studioversions, live touring she didn´t work at all ..i saw her twice and after that i didn´t want to see Nightwish/Anette anymore
Then while world touring 2012/13 the band parted from the main vocalist again, but while world touring ?!?
There is a wonderful documentary about this Tour and all the drama, it is named "Please learn the Setlist in 48h", i recommend to watch this for your own / as a reaction maybe
what the docu makes you believe with that setlist in 48h in title is only the half-truth ... Nightwish contacted Floor way before that point in time, and Anette somehow get notice of that ...
but this is all history, maybe you want to dive deeper in the Bandhistory, so go with all their Docu´s ...

Nice reaction! Glad I found your channel, as I am an amateur historian and a huge Nightwish fan as well... Floor is the best vocalist Nightwish has ever had. Tarja and Annette were Ok, but they were stuck in their operatic and pop styles respectively and had no versatility. Floor is a soprano with extensive classical training and an experienced metal vocalist at the same time, and could be a great pop singer as well. Very, very versatile, and her vocal power and range make the old Nightwish songs take on a new dimension they never had before. Storytime was too big a song for Annette and she tried her best to make it shine, but she was not able to perform the operatic portion in the middle. With Floor this song has become a true masterpiece, and she gives the words "symphonic metal" their true meaning.

Floor was 1st doing NW concert in American tour 2012, so at this point she's been about 9months in band, but only as a fill in position. Otherwise pretty spot on info you told to your partner there
