    Picked up one of these at Costco recently... wish I knew about this CZcams video before I started getting it all together and then opening and eating it but I ended up doing pretty well anyways hahaha - an excellent product! The taste is fantastic, especially coupled with the Manchego cheese and Rioja I picked up for it.

    Beware the allen screw is useless. You can easily strip the head by applying too much force...and you will be fighting it. Use a wratchet or screwdriver adapter with the allen bit for better torque.

      These hams are inspected by the USDA. Meaning they must meet the required curing time for proper consumption. Perhaps it may not be to the highest quality of Spanish hams, however its producers must maintain quality if they wish to keep the American market.

    I purchased this ham a few weeks ago, and was looking forward to carving it up for a New Years Day treat for my family. However, instead of the clamp - the threaded top long bolt that is meant to secure the ham in the ring (part D in the parts list) - there was instead a similarly shaped metal rod that will fit through the hole in the ring, but is not threaded nor does it have a spiked end. It is just a blunt-ended smooth metal rod.
    This appears to me to be woefully inadequate for actually securing the ham in the stand. This giant piece of meat is meant to be carved into many many thin slices with a very long and very sharp knife; this could be not only annoying to have the meat wobbling around while it's loosely held in that ring, but could be recklessly dangerous.
    For the price I paid for this probably delicious meat, including terrible hardware is surprising and disappointing. I certainly didn't expect to be disappointed with this purchase before even carving the ham.
    As it stands (or doesn't stand at all, actually), my family will miss out on having this lovely ham today on New Years Day, as I will be going to the hardware store tomorrow in search of a threaded bolt of some kind as a workaround for this very disappointing problem.
    I sure hope that the ham ends up being worth the missed family holiday meal and the extra hassle to search for and pay for a bolt.
    What a shame.

      Mold is normal, just cut of the moldy parts and dispose of it. You know that jamon ages up to 14 years and it goes through different mold stages, green, brown and then white mold?
      The one they sale at costco is very young and cheap jamon. You need to travel to Portugal and Spain to taste the true jamon and all variations of it.

    • @Falcodrin
      @Falcodrin Před 2 lety +8

      @@juanjoegomez The mold is perfectly fine just like on hard cheeses. Just cut off the thin top surface and throw away. Throwing away the whole jamon just because of some penicillin mold is over the top.

    • @kader2529
      @kader2529 Před 2 lety +1

      The mold was developing all over the ham. I know that they aged for years. My question here: is there a way to clean or rob the ham with some solution like vinaiger or salt (?) to avoid the mold to develop? Anyway for safety reasons I don't want to take the risk. I prefer to discard it. My only suggestion here to the ham producer is to provide some direction or guidance how to preserve or clean the ham after you open it. I would buy it again.

    • @Falcodrin
      @Falcodrin Před 2 lety +4

      @@kader2529 I would avoid attempting to prevent the mold. You might damage the residual mold culture and end up allowing nastier ones to grow. That's part of why they let the mold grow during aging. The specifically put a penicillin mold on the surface to prevent the bad molds from growing.
