    RIP Frank Foster. One of the true greats - whether that be saxophonist, composer or arranger. And a thoroughly decent man. God's speed, Frank - and thanks for all the entertainment. It'll live on.

    Just learned that one of my oldest friends in Jazz, Saxophonist and arranger-composer Frank Foster passed away today. He is best known for his work during different periods with the Count Basie Orchestra as both a member and musical director. R.I.P. Frank Foster - September 23, 1928 - July 26, 2011

    As tight a band as you will ever hear! That was why this band was Frank Sinatra's favorite band to sing with! Frank Foster does a great job of getting dynamic control out of this group! Super! Just love listening to them! Love that April in Paris!

    I had the pleasure of seeing Frank Foster in person while I was in undergraduate school(Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio, where Mr. Foster also attended), and I really enjoyed the clinic he did!!

    Rest in Peace, Mr. Foster... I'm really sad to hear he's gone now, since I just really found out more about him and his music in the past year after a research project for my major classes. Such an awesome player, composer, and leader, and such a huge influence on a lot of people. He will be greatly missed.

      I wanted to ask you if you played with Kenny and you have! I played in Vegas in the early 70´s with
      Kenny and he only played baritone. After I left Vegas in 74, all of a sudden he is a tenor player
      with the Basie Band. Great player and beautiful cat. We ran into each other in New York when I lived there from 78 to 83. The Jazz world is or was then, pretty small
      after all.

    Great saxophonist with full orchestra, I had an opportunity of seeing live Foster a few years ago here in Uruguay with Elvin Jones. It's a shame not to be in use and see all that big move jazziatica.

    The Basie Band at it's best in the 90's, with the genius of Frank Foster. The only hard part to swallow has to be the excellent drumming... ruined by sounds so similar to an echo from a tin can.

  • @darlaysjames6008
    @darlaysjames6008 Před 6 lety

    Foster est certainement avec son Basie Group, la façon la plus saine d'accélérer des titres déja arrangés. Pourtant il faut se préserver de se laisser emporter par le tempo rapide de nos jours, quand on sait, en tant que jazzman que le rythme est difficile à maîtriser quand il n'est pas férocement maintenu ! ou si le batteur n'est pas excessivement rigoureux, et qu'il se laisse emporter. Ici, Foster revient à des tempos plus calmes un titre ou deux après son petit déluge de phrases, et c'est très bien musicalement en concert.

    The band is swinging all the way. That's the way it should sound. T he drummer is right on top of it, not like Speedy Jones playing catch up on the other videos. I miss the calf heads where the plastic get a metallic sound. But Frank sounds great and the band is cooking!
