- 11 years(when I started the hobby) ago it was already impossible to see a set like this one for sale, see one today is a miracle
Back in the 70's , I was in love on the Marantz imperial 7 G, not because of the Blue woofer but because of their size and the beautiful shaped foam fronts. I didn't even know they had blue woofers

Ha, ha, that made me laugh... I remember a few Marantz speakers with that style of foam front from the 70s. Great video.
I have a kind of clone of these, uses similar drivers and the same cabinet. Made by a west coast company RSL-RogerSound Labs. The grills are different, of course and I believe the crossovers in the RSLs are better designed than the Marantz. As you say, they don't put out much bass but the are OK for a speaker of that period. And pair well with many vintage receivers. The phenolic tweeter is actually not that bad if it is crossed over properly. Sure, they won't give you the resolution of a higher end modern dome tweeter, but, again, they're better than people think. Because they do not have much siliblance or irritating highs, but are fairly smooth.
Yes, the Marantz grills are quite attractive and collectible. And is you are a Marantz collector, you should have a set of Imperial 7s, a Marantz receiver, TT, and cassette deck. A complete set.
My older brother had these around 1976. They were loud enough to get our next door neighbor complaining! Sound wise there is much better out there, but at the time drivin by a Marantz 2225 & a Dual turntable these were worlds better than the Radio Shack components we had used prior.
PS. The cabinets look nice. The drivers remind me of AR models of the same vintage.. Maybe you could think of a modified pair? I'd certainly do that, and even without too much experience, with all the computer modelling for cabinets, drive units and crossovers available free, its almost too easy to have a go... Oooh I'd love them..
Endrew. I have two pair of Imperial 7's, one pair is just like this. I have intentions of redoing both pairs and I can get re-pop grills just like that for 300/pair in MI.
i didn't knew these grills where new for sale, 300 is much
There are always people who are smart and see a good profit in certain demands, 300 for 2 fronts is a good business….. I wonder why Marantz went for these fronts, they kill the mids and highs
Those are crazy looking and why do they have handles?? They have a small midrange but that tweeter I'm familiar with these came in a speaker I have there called studio pro's I believe Im not sure but I have and had these tweeters they sound very natural good sounding tweeter don't know about that midrange..
I used to have brandless speakers with same blue paper woofer , blue paper oval midrange and blue paper tweeter. Highs and mids were ok, but bass was weak.
Its not all in all about what a speaker looks like...its how they sound..
yeah? talk to the the wife then
Perhaps the photo itself is from 1995. Just like with Tinder. You also see photos of women from 20 years ago.
HA HA HA!
😁😁😁
Nice
Never did anything to me those Marantz loudspeakers, the original look included. That these covers survived could have to do something with the inside climate (humidity) they are kept in, if the were exposed to sunlight and so on. In some climates (tropical) foam woofer surrounds go bad quickly.
These fronts will not last that much longer I think, you could feel that. Ugly fronts is mine opinion.
