Too bad the victim didn't think to call Wells Fargo's regular Customer Service Number before going to the bank.
Because she took advice from the scammers, she won't recover the loss.
Because in actuality she does not want the money on her record them or if you know what I mean this is a good way to hide money and act like you’re a big tub/victim of its loss
@@user-lp1jw9bo5yyes, this is why she would go on the news to draw attention to her 🤦♂️
Microsoft support on an Apple Computer is forsure a red flag lmao
That’s what I was thinking
This!
She wasn’t hacked she was scammed. She pretty much unknowingly gave them the money.
Well they had hacked her enough to have access to information that she hadn’t provided…
@@2riel that’s not hacking tho, she opened a link or website that opened a pop up and she called the number thinking they were Microsoft support. When she called, the person on the other line pretends to be helping them, probably uses a remote application to gain access to her computer but they need permission from the other user. Which she unknowingly probably gave to them, and from there they took advantage of her and took all her money.
@@checuevas93 I see. Thanks for the explanation!
This is so stupid, I'm almost calling it Munchausen syndrome for the rich and lonely. At no point in this process did she feel like it was a scam, even when being directed by "tech support" to travel to a crypto machine in a smoke shop across town to spend all her money on bitcoin? Stop focusing on "scam" and start focusing on stupidity. Calling this a scam is like saying the thieves were remotely clever or something when they were nothing more than lucky AF.
She walk into her bank, twice! And didn't thought of getting the manager involved 🤦♂
It's a "scam" regardless of how "stupid" the individual may be, and unfortunately nowadays people have no patience or sympathy for stupidity
It's still a scam but it's more of a stoopid victim than smart scammer
They weren’t lucky. They send that pop up to thousands of computers at the same time. Most don’t click on the message, or if they do, they hang up. But with enough targets, they’re almost certain to get one or two who fall for it.
They used a fear tactic.
Heavy curry accent didn’t raise a red flag?
Lmfao
😂😂

Sanctions should be imposed. Enough is enough
@@manonamission2000it’s Dell, HP and Verizon’s bright idea to outsource to India. They should be fined. Or no government contracts
This happened to my coworker at work once she freaked out. I crawled under her desk and unplugged her computer that seemed to stop what was happening. Funny thing was she told me not to because the pop up said to not to unplug the computer and I was idgaf.
@eyeheartyou,
Good job!
Every bank card has a legit 1-800# on the back! If you think you are being scammed, please hang up and call the correct number ASAP.
It's ashame that the Indian government is not doing anything to combat this ongoing criminality. This problem has been going on at least a couple of decades now. And please, don't call these criminals hackers, they're scammers!
Common Sense she lacked

cash cow-everyone is paid off -cops & politicians of Indian are all paid off
Scamming is their national sport over there
Indian accent, call you and ask you for your information, and threatening in any way.... these are not hackers, these people are scammers.
Anyone call you in any any stupid language you act that way my friend
Definitely Indians. They got me
@@user-lp1jw9bo5yno, these people are from the Indian subcontinent, clearly
Bingo
She thought taking a stack of benjis to some smoke shop bitcoin atm was legit? She hacked herself.
Exactly.
As soon as the instruction to take the money to some bitcoin atm, it was a huge alarm. It is too bad that she was taken over by fear and not able to think logically.
Can't shut down the computer?? Pull the plug!
That doesn't help. Turn it on and the computer is still locked. Happened to me
@@frankmacleod2565install firewall protection and security on your computer?
@@frankmacleod2565Wouldn't if you boot into safe mode without networking more than likely since Windows won't auto-start unnecessary programs. Doesn't always work though. No way this simply from Instagram website though.
She'd have to wipe the computer clean if she wanted to use it again
@@frankmacleod2565 it does work. Go to CZcams and there are dozens of videos how to regain control of your computer.
2:55 There's even a message on the Bitcoin machine. "Warning: Have you received a phone call from someone demanding payment in Bitcoin? THIS IS LIKELY A SCAM." It just takes 1 idiot out of 500,000 or so for these scammers to keep doing this.
The warning is at the bottom, no one is going to see that, it needs to be on the screen as the first thing and you have to click on it to make it go away
Hello, I am the IRS. You must pay me $200 in Walmart gift cards or the Sheriff will take you to jail…
“Put you behind the bars.”
1:06 Sooo there's this thing called power....
My advice..stay off the internet lady....
If any of you get hacked and you get this message and your computer gets locked. Just reboot your computer and you can get rid of the pop up message. They can't get into anything unless YOU RESPOND. Do not. Reboot Reboot and you can make it go away.
It wasn't a hack! It was a scam
Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds immediately. Worst case scenario is you have to do a factory reset or re-install the operating system and all your programs. always keep a backup of important files on an external storage device that is normally unplugged from the system.
Unplug it. Don't fall for that crap.
after unplug, some computer has battary to keep going. Turn off the computer and wait few minutes to turn on. That was what I did.
She should have used MFA for her bank account, and read the news. This type of scam has been around for a long while. Scammers target the elderly, the lonely, and the vulnerable.
Yep, that's what makes them so loveable.
why would she take the money out of Her bank and then put it into a bitcoin account, why not just keep it at home ?
In order for you to withdraw 25K you would have to do that at the teller window. She went to two banks and didn’t ask anyone inside about her account but willingly went to a crypto ATM and deposit her money. What kind of drugs are people on today? That’s what I wanna know.
I wish people would not believe this you can tell it’s a scam anyone saying anything about her money telling you to move money get gift card’s ETC…IS A SCAM‼️‼️‼️
She was so curious to know what is going on hit the key and lost the money that was so simple. Normally the banks are very cautious on such big cash withdrawals and alerts you immediately.
.
I'm going to guess the scammer knew her bank account info and balances from a paper statement that somehow didn't make it to her mailbox or was just taken out of her mailbox. They used info from there to do some social engineering on the victim. Something low-tech to help with a high-tech crime. Scamming and hacking has gotten so bad I don't believe any text, email, phone call or regular mail. She should have just hung up on the person and called the bank directly, and they would have told her it's not them. Too late now.
go paperless
Actually, this happened to my friend a few miles away from this woman. She deposited $23,500 at a bitcoin kiosk at a gas station.
I believe the scammers do not have information and the women are unknowingly giving up the information. I believe they ask what were your last three purchases, and they give up the info not the scammer knowing.
I asked my friend why she didn’t hang up and call the bank with the number on the back of her bank card. All she could say was it seemed so real.
It could possibly be an inside job with someone who works for the bank giving out information. They just need to get a little bit of information from the victim so the blame can’t be placed on the bank. Otherwise, the bank would really crack down hard. These hackers don’t seem to be targeting people with $500 in their account.
Sad situation, I keep hearing these stories over and over again. The government needs to step in and do more, create more awareness, run advertisings, offer free classes, whatever. Also us tech savvy people need to inform the no so tech savvy people about this, and all new scams happening.
Went to two banks and withdrew 25k? She didn't bother to ask a manager once on site about this?? You can't make this up.
Dam 25k 😢
Scammers profit off of naive people😅
Is there a way to effectively prevent these pop ups from taking over the screen? A browser setting of some sorts?
ublock origin browser addon if using firefox
Yeah, it would be neat if they implemented something like you click on some menu, access the settings, and then block pop ups from a recently visited website. Oh wait, it’s just right there…
#1 TELL THE BANK ONLY INBANKING
#2 NO MOBILE BANKING
#3 NO EMAIL
#4 GIVE THE BANK A TRAC PHONE NUMBER FOR EMERGENCY LEAVE THE PHONE OFF
ETC
Those guys got me, several years ago. Same scam, they played the part well. Had a lot of employees playing different roles in different "departments". They're from India.
You can buy a lot of cheesy Indian actors for 25 grand.
The best is to give your local police address with their number.
I did this to Craigslist scammers years ago. Good times! 😂
A similar thing happened to me the pop up message kept appearing on my browser on my smartphone I deleted it from my history the the pop up stopped reappearing.
Hey KTLA, this was NOT a Hack. She voluntarily gave away her money. Learn the difference.
She is a goofy😅
This happened to me. I used task manager to shut down this operation. I then shut down my computer and did not use it for 2 days. Now, I have security on my computer.
Oh please, if u need to move money go in the bank physically and talk to the bank
I don’t feel sorry for people who give into these scams I mean how dumb can someone be
I remind my mother to not fall for this ish everytime I talk to her.
I've seen this happen at work, in tech support. People fall for it and most of them don't know what to do, I tell them to force close or just power down there computer.
call "THE BEE KEEPER" IMMEDIATELY!
I have Malwarebytes and anti-virus software but I still get these pop ups when I mistype site addresses and routed to shady websites. Simply learn not to click anything and reboot the pc(alt+ctrl+del or press and hold power button).
That is something with some ppl who do that as hackers whuch u end up knowing the person persons nasty
*see kids, this is what happen when you been to naughty website.* 🤣
rule # 1 don't connect your phone to your PC- keep them separate
rule # 2 if your phone is hacked get off it immediately
rule # 3 suspend or close your bank account, throw that phone away and get a new one and don't visit risky sites
What??? Why would anyone get into deep with responding and giving money to anyone???
Wait, she withdrew the $25k from WF, cash in hand, what’s the problem?
Crime does pay 😈
Nasty work
I would have just kept the money and stuffed it under my mattress.
poor lady.
Scam artists will also use pictures of interest, such as cars, women, power tools, clothes etc to keep their victims hooked with interest
I would have immediately unplugged my computer lol.
Sometimes I think there are people inside the bank that provides all this information.
Always tell the scammers to pick up payment at the cemetery
So dumb
This story makes no sense. She is on to something with the "hackers" 😂😂😂. She wants wells fargo to give her 25k to share with the scammers. She needs to be investigated....
there are holes to the story, how did the hackers have her bank transaction history, something ain't adding up
Also makes no sense that she withdrew the 25k basically keeping that money safe but deposited into bitcoin and sent it to a random person. Wouldn't having the 25k in cash be good enough to keep the scammers away? She obviously didn't think
The same screen came on my laptop. The only way I could kill it is turn off my computer and wait a minute or two to turn on , that killed it. It was very dramatic.
so this came from Instagram? Weird. Usually Insta doesn't have pop ups
A lot of these scammers seem to know just a little bit too much about their victims. Account numbers, names, recent transactions, how much is in the account, etc… Someone who works for her bank must be involved. Scammers won’t waste their time with someone that has $500 in their account. It wouldn’t be too difficult to target her IP address as she has probably emailed her bank before. This guy actually got the women to withdraw the money and deposit it elsewhere. The scammer might have done this to evade an internal safeguard installed by the bank to stop these fraudulent transfers as more and more banks are having to replace the stolen funds.
If your government or operating system maker (probably Microsoft or Apple) were protecting you, every one of theit computers would have an icon on it's task bar for you to click to get instant contact with help to tell if you're being scammed.
Stay away from any Bitcoin payment crap. Tons of ruthless scams. There are too many stories. Computer/tech literacy is important. That Windows pop-up on her Mac should've been a sign.
That’s why it’s good to have two separate phone accessible and perhaps even two separate computers and tablets… I do!… It came in handy on more than one occasion!…
They usually target the very old or ignorant
Don't pop pills and browse the web.
If Microsoft support contacts you on your Mac, and you deposit the amount in bitcoin, you deserve to be stripped out off your money. Yea its such an evil world we live in, but the hackers wont be ethically and morally correct so why would I? Props to the hax for the $25k W, i hope they add another 0 next time.
I guess she doesn't know the difference between using a Mac and Windows security pop ups? That would have been my first red flag, I'm using a Mac, why am I getting a Microsoft Support security pop up? And the obvious, talk to someone in the bank, call a friend, a neighbor, I'm getting this weird message on my screen about child porn Microsoft pop up. What do I do?
What a sucker lol 😂 she should have just called her “official” bank phone number first. She could’ve avoided all this 🙄
A Microsoft support pop up on an Apple Mac computer was a huge red flag she should of noticed. She wasn't hacked at all. She just blindly clicked on the pop up link and willingly gave away her personal information. Depositing all that money into an untraceable crytpo currency block address was also another huge flag most people would notice especially younger and tech savy people. I feel bad for her.
LIFELOCK PREVENTS THIS!
From the news media we get the daily stupid crime log ,,, and now we get the daily stupid victim log,,,,Can they report on anything of any significance for the population other than The daily stupid log
These scammers are a threat to our society
Its calls pull the plug on your computer...
I got this on my IPad. They said I had to buy gift cards to unlock my IPad.
Every one knows not to clicks on pop up she not even that old
People should see scammer payback you’ll know what they say
Title is misleading. That is a scammer not a hacker.
Unplug the damn computer
That’s scareware it’s not hacking
instagram on the computer???
Something not adding up. This is a deeper story. For Someone who just “got hacked” and lost a lot of money she looks very very scared for her life . She wont even stop crying.
too many red flags for her not to know, such as going to a smoke shop in a sketch part of town and a bitcoin machine. she must have dementia or something. I would understand if it was someone taking over her phone number and using that to reset her banking passwords and take money that way but not this, there's so many steps in the process how did the hacker manage to get it all to work lol hats off to them but such an inefficient way to scam people and these days even bitcoin addresses can be tracked.
The husband was in the right.

No it not a hacker. She got scam.
That's not hacked

She lives in Hermosa Beach. She’ll recover. This is probably a small expense for her. I’m sure hackers are trying to scam all of these old people living on the coast line. I don’t feel sorry for people who live in their own worlds, you have to at least know that people scam people on the Internet nowadays.
Coming from someone who once lived in Hermosa, not everyone there is wealthy
