    I'm starting my third riding season with this throttle lock and really appreciate it. Your installation video has been really helpful -- much better than the written instructions that came with this throttle lock. I have shared this video with other riders who are looking for a safe, reliable throttle lock and want to know how to get it installed and working right.
    The last step in the video that shows how to adjust the lock is correct, but people might get the impression from the video that this adjustment should go easier and quicker than it probably does for most people.
    My advice: Take your time adjusting that last set screw until the lock works perfectly. You want the lock to hold tight when engaged so the throttle doesn't move. But you also want the lock to immediately let go of the throttle when you flip the lock's lever upward. It took me about 5 minutes to find that perfect "sweet spot" setting. Once I got it set, the lock has worked perfectly for 2+ years without any other adjustment.
    Kudos to you folks for this useful resource!

    My 85 lowglide has brake light switch plunger style between the master cylinder and switch housing, what happens there? Also moving that shit over relocates the brake lever a couple inches so now the lever would either be outta reach or you would be grabbing the tip instead of the main portion. and does that have any type of auto release?

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  Před 9 lety +1

      Hi Brian, sounds like setup probably won't work on your bike. As for the auto release, you can manually roll off the throttle in an emergency situation or if you have to react quickly. Or you can flip the release lever and it will release the throttle from the set position. It does't have any kind of automatic feature though. Take a look at the Kuryakyn Cruise Mate Throttle Assist, it might be a better fit for your motorcycle.

    I have one on a 2015 Suzuki Boulevard C50 and find it to be useless. If you adjust it so the throttle moves freely, it doesn't hold at speed. If you adjust to hold, it does not move freely when unlocked. Perhaps my bike has a stronger pull back than others.

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  Před 3 lety

      Hello, yeah it can be a little fussy to install. If the throttle doesn't snap back then you need to keep adjusting it to get it to work right or do what you did and remove it.

    • @vstar7196
      @vstar7196 Před 2 lety

      If you tighten the locknut on the clamping ring too much it will preload the lock and the throttle won’t snap back as advertised. I opened up my throttle then gently turned the locknut back until the throttle released. The problem here is if you loosen the nut too much, when you set the lock it won’t hold the throttle in position.

      Hi Venison, sorry to hear that. What is the issue? Maybe we can help you find a solution

    • @jeannetteyoung8585
      @jeannetteyoung8585 Před 6 lety

      Chaparral Motorsports I don't remember the brand of heated grips I have. My heated grip has a bulge along the flange that the throttle lock would net up against. This bulge is where the wire enters my heated grip.
      Here are my three fit issues:
      1. The bulge prevents the throttle lock from being flat against the flange.
      2. The bulge pushes the throttle lock further outboard, so the arm isn't long enough to span across the switches, even with the extension.
      3. The med ring is way too large/thick and the small ring is way too small/thin. I couldn't seem to make either one work. I've since realized I could maybe make it work by tightening down the 3 set screws. I haven't tried it, though.
      I've seen a few comments elsewhere which recommend not combining heated grips with throttle lock because the grip could expand when heated and lock your throttle. I've got a long trip coming this summer and am thinking throttle lock is more important to me than heated grips.
      If you know a good way to have both features, I'm all ears!

    • @chaparralmotorsports
      @chaparralmotorsports  Před 6 lety

      Hmmmm. Yeah, so that product won't jive with your heated grips. Have you thought about going the other way and instead of using heated grips get a pair of heated gloves? Maybe just put your stock grips back on (if they are still usable) and then sell the heated grips on Craigslist or something and use the money to help offset the cost of heated gloves. We have a wide assortment of heated gloves if you're interested: www.chaparral-racing.com/dept/heated-gloves
