Hello 🌸 I stumbled upon your channel by chance. I am also from Canada, Quebec with an ESL teaching experience. I have the CELTA and CELTYL certificates... I'm also passionate about Turkey and have so much respect for the Turkish people. Your channel turns out to be the perfect match to my needs and interests... so thank you so much for your reviews and information 🎈 I'm glad your videos were recommended to me through YT. I've just subscribed to your channel and will be a fervent follower 🤗 Who knows? Maybe one day I'll move to Turkey ❤ Keep safe and healthy 🥰🙏
I was actually just given a chance to teach at a university in Istanbul. It's a big change (I'm in Japan) but it is an exciting opportunity I think. I spent a week there many years ago, and loved the vibe. I won't be going for the money though - while the benefits are good, they pay in Lira : /
After I heard about the turkey earthquake, I thought about your channel and wondered if you and your family are okay. Adana was very severely impacted. I hope you are all okay
Great question, McWhiffles! Since I've only ever visited Ankara and haven't lived there, I can't really say. But my impression is that Ankara is similar to other capital cities -- lots of government employees, generally orderly, has good cultural and educational offerings ... But lacking the "grit" of the truly exciting big cities of the world. I know this is how many people feel about Ottawa, Bonn (formerly, when it was Germany's capital) ... So whether those are positives or negatives, really depends on the individual.
Hey Cecile, I really like your channel and videos! Is it possible to get in touch with you to ask more questions. I am born and raised in Canada and looking to make a move to Turkey.
Can we work as a teacher in school without learning Turkish and also I am not a native English speaker? However , I am an expert educationist and can teach all subjects up to secondary level Which type of school / city job is possible?
Hi Cecile. Hope you and your family are keeping healthy during this pandemic. I am a Btech graduate with 5 yrs of work experience in IT. I am on a career break since the birth of my first born. During this time, I did MSc psychology out of interest. In Sha Allah, we plan to relocate to Turkey owing to my husband's job. I have good command over English language and hope to make a career out of it. I have been pondering about TEFL. With my qualifications, is it possible for me to land a teaching job in Turkey? Be it for children or adults. Is it worth to invest on a TEFL course provided my education?
Hi Sabeena, what an exciting prospect! You will most likely easily find a job teaching English; the more important question is whether it will be a legal one (i.e. one that gets you a work permit, pays social security (SGK), and pays you a fair salary). My advice is to find out specifically what the MEB (Ministry of Education) requirements are for working in a k-12 school; and what the YÖK requirements are for working in a university. These change, so I cannot give you guaranteed information. Alternatively, contact potential employers and perhaps their HR dept. can help you. Typically, you need 3 things: proof of English competence (eg TOEFL), teaching qualifications, and a university education. But again, depending on the type of teaching job you want, those teaching qualifications will vary. Hope this helps!
If you're looking for a job you'll probably find one; the question would be whether the package is one you'd be happy with as salaries won't be comparable to Canadian ones. Perhaps contact some universities directly or look for postings on LinkedIn to get a better idea? Hope this helps.

Hello..I have bachelor's degree in Physiology and I will be coming to turkey in Feb to start my MSc degree in neuroscience so I want to ask after my MSc degree can i get the job of science teacher in school because I really want to be a teacher but I don't have degree in education
Hello Sobhia, I would suggest you contact some schools directly to ask whether the Ministry of Education would approve your qualifications; I think there is a good chance they might. Good luck!
Hi Cecile. Thanks for the great content. I have a question that you may be able to answer since you are a teacher in Turkey. My wife and I are both Australian citizens, but English is our second language. we are considering moving to Turkey permanently, and we'd like to enrol our kids in an English school. My questions are: Are all teachers in English schools native speakers? Is the whole school environment English-speaking or partly Turkish partly English? I'd like my kids to get fully immersed in English so they learn it like natives. How much roughly do these schools charge per year? Cheers,
Hi Maz, great questions. I assume you are teachers? Non-native English speakers can certainly work in Turkish schools, but the work visa requirements may vary in terms of qualifications ... So I'd recommend you contact prospective employers first. Requirements can also change depending on what you teach -- elementary, middle or high school (or university); math, science, IB ... or English. The only fully English schools are international schools; Turkish schools that have an intensive English program will still be Turkish environments with no English spoken on the playground or in the hallways. School fees change from school to school, but here are the links to two fully English schools' fees: The British School in Istanbul www.bis.k12.tr/2021-2022-academic-year or IICS (Istanbul International Community School) awww.iics.k12.tr/tuition-fees/ Good luck!
I have a question, I have been teaching in Japan for 8 years now and I'll be getting my CELTA this summer. Currently, I'm an instructor of English at a private school and focus on teaching conversation, writing, reading comprehension, and occasionally grammar. However, my bachelor is in Art and Design. Could I still get a decent job teaching English in Turkey? Thank you in advance for the information. :)
I'd suggest you join an international recruiting agency (I used Search Associates and would recommend them). Then, you can see specific schools' job postings with requirements. They will be in accordance with the latest Ministry of Education requirements. Hope this helps.
Hi great videos, I have a question. So I am a non native Canadian, speak and write well.Living in Canada for last 9 years. Due to some reasons I have to move to Turkey. I have a Bachelor in Business(BBA), Masters in Business Admin (MBA) and Masters in Human Resources from UK.If I do some certification like TEFL, would I be able to get a teaching job in Turkey? In short is BA in Edu mandatory?
Hello Mehreen, great questions! It really depends on where you want to work -- at a university in their English language prep year? In a K-12 school or in a language school. Since requirements change all the time, I suggest you contact potential employers and speak to them directly about the requirements of their governing bodies. Best of luck!! :-)
Most Turkish employees employing foreigners especially Africans barely provide them a work permit or insurance. Imagine working years for money without security, It’s a waste of time for people who love cheap labor.
If your M.Sc. is from an English speaking university and you are a native English speaker, possibly; if you also have a teaching degree, your chances improve. Hope this helps.
@@FromCanadatoAdana I am from India so my native language is not English but my studies are in English as a medium. Also i have mastered in mathematics but not done B.ed.
It depends on the school; you'll have to contact schools individually. Alternatively, look at the postings on an international teacher hiring site (Search Associates, etc.) for that info.
