The subway scene, the black light part refers to the “invisible” skills both Akali and Evelyn have (Akali’s W and Eve’s passive). So every time the lights are on, you see normal Eve but no Akali, and during dark scene you see her “cloaked” mode.
Technically, that's the Spirit Realm, not invisibility. You can see the same effect in one of their Tales of Runeterra cinematics.
@@verified_tinker1818 Spirit Realm in the LoR cinematic is one thing, the stylistic choice used to represent it being a not so subtle nod to K/DA. What Akali's doing is going into stealth, and that has nothing to do with the Spirit Realm, whether in the Runeterra universe or the K/DA one. They are in no way connected. There's nothing spiritual about it, it is just her hiding in smoke.
The dancing in this one is actually amazing. If you pay attention to each character individually, you can see that Akali is always a bit behind while Kai'sa is more on point.
There's a lot to this! That's why I prefer POP/Stars over More. The characters here have some specific traits and are all animated and presumably mocapped individually
for me pop/stars and more are both good when it comes to beat. but I more like more's animation 'cause it's clean, and have many cool transition unlike pop/stars. when they're dancing and the camera got to evelynn she looked terrible for me lol. no offense just my opinion.
Kai'sa is always on point because she is the choreographer and is the most talented dancer while Akali isn't much of a dancer and is used to quick hand movements during her raps.
You do know that's also in more right? Akali is late and Kai'sa is on point. On the "You know I got it like" part, Evelynn doesn't even look at her hands like the other three. And on the "more than enough add it up anyway", Evelynn has a different position with her hands than the others.
I mean, the same thing happens in the More video, they even keep the trend of Alkali being a little behind everyone else

Cool little detail: the clothes in Ahri's laundry basket are references to some of her popular skins! The hat with a heart is from her Popstar skin, the red sleeve is from her base skin, and the hot pink glinting star thing is from her Star Guardian skin.

Fun Fact about Evelynn: When Evelynn was in the background in the dark during Akali's subway rap scene, it's because of her passive after level 6. She goes into shadow mode and then if she's close enough you can see her. So it's a cool transition from her passive to her normal form. :)

I've been listening to Pop/Stars since it came out and NEVER noticed Evelynn's shadow during Akali's rap part
Also, in the dark Evelynn has her claws and Akali is "alive"... on lights Evelynn is just a normal person and Akali is just doing nothing.
I mean she was literally invisible so it kinda makes sense that she was really not that noticeable tho :3
If you pay attention to the interior of the subway car during that part, every time it cuts back to Evelynn in the light, the walls and floor get more and more scratched and ripped up.

Jordan's under eyes: Shine bright like A DIAMOND.
There is actually a pretty big meaning behind why the camera is moving back all the time.
It is a means to say that "You can't approach them, they approach you whenever and however they want, but no matter how much you try or want, you will not do the same." In reference to their play styles in the game.
Even the scenes where it feels like the camera is moving forward, it is still moving backwards in relation to something in the scene, for exemple the only time it feels like the camera moved forward inside Evelynn's car, it was actually Evelynn going faster and running us over while the camera is still moving back in relation to the tunnel.
So you will always be left behind and you can't reach them, no matter how much you try, but they will reach you whenever they want and dance in your face.

I think the scene on the train also references Evelynn's playstyle and abilities. You don't see her coming until she is literally right on you.
7:44 as someone who has mabye seen this around 40 times it still makes me shook that the implication of the Kai'sa car scene is that she's still moving so fast that she's like fucking with the light lmao. Like it doesn't make sense obviously, but love how well they translated the character's abilities in game to these videos.

I thought I was alone in thinking that this was way smoother for their motions and dance choreography than MORE. I didn't notice it for a bit until I went back and watched POP/STARS again after the new album dropped. This looks so smooth and buttery, but MORE feels like their motions are stiff/janky a little.

I like how throughout the video there's the slight implications of Ahri's KDA more and how she used to feel trapped but in creating KDA she was freed. That's why the enclosed washing machine room becomes that crazy anti gravity space with the tiles floating around, and how she exploded out of the cage made from rods of light.
As an editior myself, the way Jordan reacts to really good transitions speaks to me on a spiritual level

Another cool little detail I just noticed in this video is when Akali is sitting between the train tracks.... the instrumentals briefly cut, the train on the right passes her on "POP", the train on the left passes her on "STARS", and then the music resumes as they rush past. It feels GOOD

Considering how you go really into depth in the stories of Music Videos and their concepts, I recommend that you try reacting to LOONA, in chronological fashion because their whole discography is tightly-knit into a super complicated story / lore called "The Loonaverse."

Also that Akali shot from the beginning has references from different music skin/character cosmetic lines made throughout the years, confirming that there is indeed a Music Industry Alternate Universe happening within League of Legends. but unlike how KPOP and Hollywood goes, everyone is pretty well known here. Ahri and Eve are solo artists waaaay before K/DA existed, but they decided to join forces as Ahri wanted to break out from her company's contract because of forcing her concepts she doesn't want to continue anymore.
2:52 the dress on the laundry basket was a reference to Ahri's former idol outfit, the Popstar skin. It might also have her Star Guardian one (which might hint that Star Guardian is a movie series in the K/DA universe(?) and she is one of the main cast(?))
4:42 I noticed how Akali's shroud and Evelynn's passive was kind of a hint from Akali's video in an ad for Legends of Runeterra which is showing 'the spirit realm' through neon colors/blacklight. It was nice of them to keep it from that video some time later as well.

Awesome video! I liked how you noticed the camera pulling out in all of the shots. There was this other review video by TBSkyen that said something like "The popstars can always be in your face, but you can never reach their league" hence why Riot chose to have all the shots done like that.

I think that the individual nuances in the choreo reflect the personality of the characters. Akali hits beats harder, where Evelynn melts into them (and also literally looks down on you in the MORE video, you're nothing but a fly in her eyes). I like the little desynchronicities because they allow the character to feel real. While other K-Pop groups want to feel cohesive, you break those routines down frame by frame, and I'm sure you'll find other slight inconsistencies.
I guess my question is: if you're wanting your animation to feel real, do you neglect those nuances to create a perfect product?
The style of the CG animation here is more abstract, and less like stop-motion Barbie dolls (is in MORE). Fortiche are masters of the craft.
RE "the dancing feeling late" at 4:20 they intentionally included slight off sync motions and bits for each dancer to give it a more "they're real people" feel because real people can't always be perfect robots

Nope. The only ones that were mo-capped were for the Worlds live concert. Animators had to tediously animate all of the stuff in the mv.

I'm glad I found someone who points out the dancing looks off the beat. I think the glaring one is at 3:51 because the stomp SHOULD land on the beat but it's late. The hip sway in the second half of the chorus looks better because the hips "pop" on the beat. The second time they do the chorus the stomps are timed better (though I can't link a timestamp because it's not in this video).

That "off-ness" of the dancing could be a little bit of the uncanny valley peeking through but I think that they did a good job off setting that with other details. I really like that they didn't copy paste the dance animations so that they aren't perfectly in sync which gives a lot of uncanniness in other aminated choreography.

Truly one of the best put together music videos I have ever seen. The camera always moving back means you're never lost. Your eye doesn't have to figure out a new movement ever. They mix it up a little by sometimes having stuff coming at the backtracking camera within the scene so you don't really notice it all that much. The transitions are phenomenal and mostly reasonably possible real world. A few aren't. But this is next level production talent here.
