  • American mercenaries, hired by the UAE to kill in Yemen, have spoken candidly on camera for the first time in an investigation by BBC Arabic.
At a time when Houthi attacks on Red Sea shipping have highlighted the international dimensions of the Yemeni conflict, the investigation also reveals how US mercenaries trained Emirati officers to kill the UAE’s political enemies in Yemen.
These extra-judicial killings, conducted in the name of counter-terrorism, started in 2015 and continue to this day.

As a citizen of Yemen, I reside in the country and have traveled extensively from east to west. I strongly detest and fear Al-Qaeda more than any other entity on this planet. However, I have never personally encountered or been aware of any presence of Al-Qaeda on the ground in Yemen. My only knowledge of them has been through media reports. When I heard a mercenary claim in a documentary that "Al-Qaeda is in every corner in Yemen," I laughed loudly, as it seemed to me to be an exaggerated attempt by a liar or mercenary to portray themselves as a hero under the spotlight of media attention.

In other words, he openly admitted that he was being paid to do a hit for "the client", in exactly the same way as a hitman would be paid to commit murder, no difference.
If I was one of the "clients" who paid these guys to make people disappear, I would be getting at least a little nervous seeing that they are bragging to everyone about their handiwork ON NATIONAL TELEVISON. I believe the UN classifies them as "soldiers of fortune", so they are technically equivalent. Hell mercenaries can even be state sponsored (even though not publicly), so they are fairly equivalent. Still, one important difference is that they don't have the same benefits as soldiers if they are ever captured, and lack legal protection, and even worse, their movements, actions and judgements are based on individual beliefs rather than tactical or strategic objectives, there is still a very significant difference between a contract soldier and a merc.

The primary concern is not simply the UAE's status as a key ally to the US and UK, but rather the perpetration of illegal activities with tacit approval from the US. Dale Comstock- even though he puts on a 80s tough guy persona is totally legit, serving 10 years on Delta Force and later for the CIA as a paramilitary operative- he even developed the special forces combatives manual.
