String is also a good item to use for falling to death traps. Water would be placed on top of them. And blocks can't be placed either.

Heres 2 more uses for Cauldrons
1. You can use cauldrons to craft Tipped arrows you just put tge potions in and left click the arrows
2. You can use water in the nether with the help of cauldrons i ussualy use it for Blazes.

Literally any normal block would work if you place it early enough before you started falling a ton
Heres what you do to survive:
Just before you die, quickly log out, then log back in and you wont take any damage
it wont work on multiplayer
(Me MLGing midway before getting deep enough to enter the cauldron part of the hole)
