We went on the train that left King's Cross at 07.30, first large can of Watney's 7 already opened. Our's was the first football special and we arrived in plenty of time to get to the ground. Trips to Roker and the Stadium of Light have been good to Palace fans over the years and this was no exception. A fantastic day out though the match is a blur owing to the generous consumption of beer. No surprise that there was a bit of naughty stuff from the locals on the way back to the station.
Thanks for posting the video, a great reminder of when matches kicked off on a Saturday at 3pm, the shirts weren't spoilt by sponsors's logos and the players got on with the game.

I was there.Over 50k fans jam packed into RP.Incredible atmosphere but was sick as a parrot after the result. We threw the kitchen sink at them but it just wasnt our day.Witnessed quite a bit of bother after match. We won promotion and went up as champs that season which was some consolation. The last time i felt sick like this was 3 years earlier when the Poles knocked England out of World cup qualifying group at Wembley.

tried to get 2 tickets but no luck maybe Roker park should have been extended in the 1960's, would have been amazing to win the cup 3 years later again, we were brilliant at home that season as well, soton bad away record yet went on to win the cup.@@malmes999

I was in that Roker End, what an amazing sight. I remember a big talking point before the game was Allyson walking around the pitch with a glass of champagne. It was one of those nights, we were never going to score. Overt bias from Brian Moore as well.

I always thought Brian Moore was really bias towards specifically London teams

Great memories, thanks for posting. We got there late due to train issues, we discarded our Fedoras on the journey back to the station and had the usual departure ritual of bricks thrown through the windows of the Football Special Train on the return home. Thanks again.

Strange how the Fulwell End chant "Hello hello Geordie aggro" shortly after Palace scored. I was in the Fulwell that day.
