The great thing about these YES covers by this band (and I’ve watched them all) is that their measure of success is not all about how well the singer can or cannot pretend to be Jon Anderson. She’s not pretending, she doesn’t need to, the whole band has everything nailed anyway and with their own vital musical energy. Stunningly good! Respect to all of you!
Agreed. They are the best so far. The worst is when people try to cover bands and fall short. Band geeks have a VERY high standard. And we all benefit from that standard. Sure. Nobody can be bill, or rick. But the synergy pulls the performance through the gap such that even purists like myself are greatful for their efforts. And i think the vocals are excellent!
Her voice is just so bad though it really does ruin these covers, it would sound better if it wasn’t Disney princess Yes , corny ass voice
one valid criticism tho: she completely misses the same passion and urgency of Jon Anderson
@waltzsofa1602 How come nobody can just say it: Anderson sang like a girl...that's why the young lady can do it so effortlessly, she kind of just sings.
Anyway, you guys are really a revelation for someone like me, I'm 70 years old and sometimes I feel irrelevant and, well, old. My clothes are old and my knees are old and my prostate has graduated from being something I couldn't have pointed to on an anatomical chart when I was 25 to something that comes to my attention twice a night, around 1:00 A.M. and again at 5:00. But here's the real problem: My music seems like it gets up and goes to the bathroom with me and that just ain't right. There's an album called "The Caretaker", It was written and performed by a guy who wanted folks to know what it might feel like to have alzheimers: It starts out sounding like the music my father listened to but ended (the album was around 3 hours long) up sounding like someone kicked a piano down a mountainside
Listen, this is how old I am, I didn't even know I'd posted this comment, that's why it ended so abruptly and we were left falling down a mountain with a piano crashing along beside us...I am your stereotypical "tech-moron".
Anyway, you and I are allowed to differ in our opinions and in the end you're probably closer to the truth than I am even though, if you reread your comment, you'll realize that you kind of contradicted yourself. Anyway, I'm sure we both agree that this band is friggin' amazing and I'm going to check out their other covers right now.
(While I have your attention, let me ask a question: Was Geddy Lee in a different band a couple years before Rush? I ask because I'd heard a band once who had a singer with EXACTLY the same voice as Mr. Lee, I can't even remember the name of the band but I do recall the name of the song he sang, it was called Natchez Trace...do you know who that might have been? Be gentle with your answer, I may be suffering from a slight touch of Dementia and it wouldn't be nice to mess with a guy in my condition.) 😉
*I had to come back and confess something: In my concerning and swiftly advancing "brain-fog" I got mixed-up about who we were discussing, I asked you a question about Rush while this song is by YES. I am a knuckle-head, sorry.
Peace.
Ann Marie’s voice is particularly spectacular on this one. It’s fantastic on everything, but this one really shines IMO.
And that she plays the delayed wah guitar part for the pre choruses to fit the sound of the original recording is ace
meh
@@bobsbigboy_ Loser
Why did she leave, does anyone know?
@@JamesSmith-rr5dw It’s none of my business.
As a lifelong Yes fan, may I say this is nothing short of amazing. You were all born to do this. OK, enough, I'm going back for a second listen.
Because of the difficulty in getting it right, there are good musicians who will not even attempt to play a Yes song. The best, however, probably consider it a challenge. This band is superb! Really an outstanding performance from beginning to end. My sincere appreciation!
Have been a Yes fan for 25 years and this has been, hands down, my favorite Yes song (regardless of how amazing all their other songs are). Just wanted to say, from both a fan of the song and band, that you guys NAILED this. You guys took this song so seriously and also seem to simultaneously have so much fun with it. Thanks again. You are all great. Much appreciated.
Jason Wilson . I agree. When I 1st saw them in 1972 as a middle act for Black Sabbath who was my favorite at the time Yes blew me away and Sabbath was (no Disrespect Ozzy) and had no idea who they were. #1 band that turned me on to prog rock forever
It's definitely the jamminest Yes song. This and America (IMO). ...oh yeah, kick-ass version Band Geeks!
Same here.... An awesome rendition of an underrated favorite!
this is also my all time favorite YES song ! Great job !
I'm with ya - best Yes song ever! Defines the band, IMHO. When I first heard it, I was a 16-year-old who had studied classical piano for too long to enjoy bubble gum bullshit. Wakeman's work in the middle of the track blew me away. I knew I'd found my band when side 1 of Fragile ended.
Damn, her voice is amazing!
Awesome playing by everyone, but for me what makes it even more amazing is that Ann Marie DOESN'T "American Vibrato" the hell out of it - just pure tone, the way it should be. Nice job and so tasteful.
Second that!
Anne Marie has a very tasty vibrato available but does keep it under control.
Just discovered this and I am blown away by the musicianship of every person there. I need to hear more of those incredible vocals also! Perfect! Thank you everyone in the band for sharing your talents and love. ❤
I love that moment at 3:00 when the drummer looks over to his mates with a smile that says, "Holy shit, Tom Brislin is in our basement."
Just a fantastic rendition of this YES SONG and an awesome improv jam at the end. Great keys great vocals. Bravo! Brava!
It trily is awesome.
Holy God who are you people??? This is my second Yes play (CTTE was first) and I’m equally blown away! The legendary Howe riffs between lines on this song are some of my all time favorite....and you NAILED it!
It helps that Tom Brislin played keyboards for Yes in the early 2000s
Another life-long Yes fan here. These guys are killing it!
For my brother & me, "Fragile" has been a staple since it's release.
Really WELL DONE. All of YOU!
What a ridiculously talented bunch of musicians. Came here to see my buddy Tom Brislin and left a huge Band Geeks fan!
Well its is mostly Blue oyster cult members / techs , what did you expect ..lol
I just saw Blue Oyster Cult and Richie Castellano was great !
Him and Buck Dharma are lethality….like Shaq & Kobe
Seen you play twice now
Richie. You’re playing the OC. Fair 5 days after my band.!
Keep rockin Richie !
Btw, what guitar were you using last Sunday night???
I didn’t see your green guitar ?
@@davidhaney1394 Wait - WHAT??? I did NOT know that...
Holy cow!! . . . You guys are some of the few who can say that are VERY ABLE to immortalize REAL MUSIC and to bring it into the Twenty First century in order that we, the followers and lovers of the 70-80s music, can revive thoughts, remembrances and evoke those magnificient times of our youth. You have all my respect and admiration!
My only regret is that I cannot "Like" this AGAIN, two years later.
It was SO beautiful! I had tears in my eyes well before 45 seconds. I never knew anyone else loved this song as much as I did
this song is certainly one definition of the word "cool"
Thanks, we appreciate it!
You kidding? Count me in!!!
Right there with ya.
Yup. Perhaps my all time fave Yes track!! Brilliant cover!!!
Very, very good. This has been one of my favourite Yes songs since 1973 when I bought Fragile. A very underrated song.
TREMENDOUS cover of one of my favorite Yes pieces. High compliments! this is why you guys are working & the rest of us are watching.
This may be the greatest of all Yes covers, anywhere, period. Just stunning and powerful. I was really hoping this would have made its way onto the setlist of the Jon/Band Geeks tour this spring.
I've now watched this video about 20 times. This is actually BETTER than the recorded live versions by YES. Andy totally nails the drum parts so damn well, but more important, he plays them CORRECTLY. This song, and so many of the early YES songs are VERY much dependent on Bruford's jazz style to make them just "that much more special". White has his straight-up interpretations of the early stuff, but there are some songs that need the jazzy rhythms to back it all up. Even when the jazziness is ghosting, it's still there, and by gum, we can hear it, and will tell you how important it is. The jam at end is so much fun. What an wonderful gang of A+++ musicians!!!
When in doubt...Roll!!!
I've listened to this rendition several times too....remain just plain stunned, and moved. Appreciated much. Thank Geeks
I think it's better than the original studio version too...
@@halodust1304 That's what I've been saying. The Geeks had much more advanced sound equipment than Yes did, so they do Yes BETTER than Yes! lol Unbefuckinglievable...
@@rockdrumr2772 , please go play in traffic!
The brand new Keyboardist for Kansas! Congrats, Tom!!
That drummer is killing it
Who knew Boris Johnson was a great drummer!
@@denizoktay850 I'm impressed when anyone plays Yes. You really don't see it much
That's Andy on drums!! He also plays keys, & bass! All of them are multi instrumentalists!!
thank you for keeping this great music alive, truly beautiful 😊👍
In my top 3 Yes songs and Ann Marie nails the vocals. Bloody wonderful! The guys aren’t too bad either 😀and great to see TB on this!
Outrageous !! And outstanding!! The members of YES should hear this. I’m SURE they would be very impressed. 🤯
Indeed they were, at least Jon Anderson. He is using them as his backing band for his current tour (minus Anne Marie, sadly).
As good as the original South Side of the Sky is, I can't stop watching the Bank Geek version. You guys are amazing! I love the immediacy of the performances, and the joy you all put into each one. Every aspect of the performance is flawless and energetic.
In my head canon, that outro is what Yes played in the legendary 1976 Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens show where South Side was their encore and Rush opened for them.....(all fictional.....but a boy can dream)
I bought this Lp when it came out and listened to it for hours because it blew me away. It still does. However, Super Fans like the Band Geeks blow me away, too. Their dedication to a note-for-note cover is astounding. Yes is not a band to cover for a lot of musicians. This band has that ability to take the song and make it theirs. Great work!
Awesome cover, guys ! Loved the extended jam at the end !
Epically great cover and than jamming at the end while still adhering to the basic theme of the song! Top talent and a whole lot of fun.
Love this!! Great to see Tom playing with you!! Keep up the GREAT performances!!
I love Ann Marie's voice , just perfect! I too have been a Yes Appreciator since '72 , and these are the Best covers I've ever heard , in fact, they are Better than the Yes live because if the undoubted enthusiasm by all concerned in every performance. Please make an Album , and please come to Britain!! I 👍🎶👍🎶👍
Wow.This song is still as fresh as when it first came out! I'm very concerned about keeping YES music alive and well and passed down to the next generation.
Great job!
A long time YES fan since my first album which was YESterdays, 3 record live version I bought in 1980. And like the previous comment said, "...You guys NAILED this." The singer was so accurate and sincere, I shed a tear or two. Thank you so much for allowing us to see how this song was actually played.
Peter Gabriel brought his 13 year old son to a Genisis tribute band that was so good he turned to his son and said now you know what your father and the band sounded like when he played his music....
I have been a Yes fan for 50 years, I closed my eyes and listened and thought it was Yes, great job on this cover.
TOTAL KUDOS FOR TAKING ON YES! Best band ever, no matter what anyone says. WAY ahead of its time.
Never seen anything like this. My favorite Yes song. How you guys pull this off is supernatural!
This just blows me away every time. I remember seeing Tom playing with YES in New York many years ago (probably Westbury, Long Island). YES music never gets old.
Tom is so good!!!! Doing Rick proud! Steve, Bill and Chris's parts too! Nice job young lady!
Man did they add some energy to this great song or what! Every instrument including the voices was just fabulous. What musicians!
Fucking Spot on!! Love the Lady's voice, fits perfectly with this tune.
She certainly sang it way better than I would have! LOL
Exhibit A why Tom Brislin should be Yes' keyboardist again. Great cover all!
You guys are unbelievable. Ann Marie, you have a strong and unique voice which carries the show. To the rest....you guys rock!
A gem.....a true gem that once again shines. Can’t imagine a life whiteout Yes, well there you have it.
from a lifelong YES fan and the world's most mildy uninteresting man - i don't usually comment, but when i do
i say whoa... this is HOT stuff! great cover - do more? please? thanks for posting this Richie - you guys ROAR!
Check out our archive channel. We have a bunch more yes there. czcams.com/users/bandgeekpodcast
beat you to it. i binge-watched last night - bout treefiddy worth. awesome stuff Richie... you guys are a really talented group of people (family?) but you take the cake :)
p.s. you da' better David Bowie :) wanna give "Soon" a try? should be fun.
To play anything in a professionally and listenable context,is a win.
Playing Yes in this capacity is exceptionable.
As a longtime Yes fan I am thrilled that you guys have done this video. Bravo
Boris Johnson on drums everyone!
Um, hehe.
And, perhaps a young Jerry Seinfeld on keys......
True!
Stupid Comment.
@@OldBassGuitarMan lol
I'm 63 now and Yes had just released some treasures when I had just started high school that stand Epic til this day and this sounds Incredible! Spot On! WoW.
Beyond this spectacular cover, one must marvel at the songwriting craft YES brought to this era of their canon.
Totally agree. Try to find songwriting like this these days ... good luck.
My favorite parts are the piano solo.
Most beautiful.
I wish I could like this anew EVERY time I listen. So good! Every performer is fantastic to watch and hear.
Can't keep quiet any more. Been up ALL NIGHT watching these videos. Is there anything these people can't play!? Probably my favorite Yes song; that middle section brings me to tears.
CZcams just suggested I watch Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee with some new, really talented drummer. Yeah, maybe later. Right now I want me more Yes covers by band geeks!
Wow, that's some inspired soloing! You guys are on fire!
A. My favorite Yes song B. Most Yes fans never seek covers, (mistake) C. I'm practically speechless and crying, over the top fantastic!!!
Lost for words! Amazing job Geeks!
Thanks!
This is a testament to all the great Musicians of Staten Island New York, You all Rock on this masterpiece. I have seen this played live by Yes in my 45 + years of YES Fanddom !!
Band Geeks should be touring all over. Incredible talent and musicianship. Would love to jam with these folks.
Everyone involved with this is spot on, just a great rendition. Love the banter between Tom and the guitarist near the end. Thank you!
As a guitarist myself, one of the complaints I have about anyone covering a song is lack of attack or energy and commitment to the sound. Richie, you do not hold back and are amazingly fluid. Mucho kudos. Also like the heavy metal crunch. Nice touch.
How in the HELL has this only got 2.5K likes? Aren't there any fans of old Yes left? It's been out for over two years, and these guys/gal friggin nailed it! Oh man that was a joy to watch, bravo!
I can listen to it all day long, fantastic cover!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve listened to many covers. This by far is my favorite. It’s incredibly good. I love Band Geek. I’m hooked!
Thanks! Have you heard our other Yes covers? Here's Starship Trooper: czcams.com/video/LhCHQPricjo/video.html
Excellent cover. The female lead vocal is really refreshing. Yes is one of the few legendary prog bands that female lead vocal sounds just as good if not better. Well done! Whole band solid. Glad I found this.
Tom Brislin has played with Yes, Renaissance and Camel. Fantastic musician playing with fantastic musicians. Love it!
I've now watched a few of this 'collective's' astonishing work. They seem to change instrument with no effort - are as brilliant on each one and draft in new equally magnificent players at will. What have I been missing for the last 2 years? Congratulations to everyone. Just one more thing: the electronic drums sound superb, yet not many bands seem to use them.
Andy only uses electronic drums when in this confined space.....a full kit would be overpowering
The 6 thumbs down wish they could play this good lol, great job guys!!!!!!! Very hard song to play.
Oh i forgot, great singing!
Another incredible cover by BG. REALLY WELL DONE!! Ann Marie’s singing for this is stellar. Excellent musicianship all around. They’re doing what I always wanted to do…
Goddamn!!! I didn’t think anybody but yes could do this!!!
Great harmonies. Perfect pitches, perfect rhythms.
What they all said: wow! That jam ending was better than the Yes themselves and I saw them a couple of times back in the day.
Dudes...wow! Just wow is all I can say. Seriously. Wow!
That was so uplifting! Brought back memories of my first Yes album! Fragile. Thanks guys. Never disappoint!
Fantastic! great to see Tom playing YES music again. Wished he'd stayed with the band longer.
His performance on Yes Symphonic Live is superb. I love that live performance so much.
I’m thankful he landed with Kansas though, such a great addition!
@@johndufek4586 so true! :)
6:53 an already superb interp of a great tune goes ... into a mesh of ELP, Jethro Tull, Yes, and Focus. Fantastic!
That is the best cover of this song I've ever heard!
This is the band I always wanted to be in.....
I have always been blown away by how awesome Yes music is and how talented you have to be to play any of the parts. Great job, it takes a great group of folks to play the most interesting electronic music ever made in my humble opinion.
Killer cover of a killer tune. Great job!
Was pleased and amazed at Richie joining BOC years ago.His addition was nothing short of genius.I would expect nothing less hear. To Richie Hats off For "See you in black"guitar work.
Awesome -this stuff is "heavier" than heavy metal and far more interesting -Excellent job and thank you!
Super Cover!!! 👍👌😘
All of your Yes covers are amazing. One of my all time favorite bands. You all knock this shit outta the park!!
Deserving of a standing ovation! Fierce and beautiful at the same time...
That's magnificent. All your covers are magnificent. I remember Fragile being released and I've loved it ever since but I never saw Yes play so it's a treat to see you perform this so amazingly well. Not just dry copies but so full of life! It's a beautiful thing you do. But, the singing! I love that you're not doing an impression of Jon Anderson but using your own beautiful voice. It's so gorgeous it brought tears to my eyes. Sending love and thanks to all of you.
De los mejores covers de Yes, y una de las mejores interpretaciones del inigualable Steve Howe
Mr. Brislin himself, no less! The singer also did a great job, she really feels this song.
Sparks my joy! Thank you so much!
This is absolutely awesome! I've been a Yes fan since the late 60's, and this captures the musicianship and feeling of Yes music. It's clear to me watching this that they are havong a great time playing. I want to party (and play music) with these wonderful musicians!
Fan-tastic! Tremendous talent. What a great rendition, thanks for the boost!
Just discovered your channel and been watching all your Yes videos. I don't think I've ever seen any other cover band nail Yes as well. Pretty cool seeing a former Yes (and Renaissance) keyboardist Tom Brislin jam with you guys. Will have to check out your other stuff. Looks like you have good taste.
Drakus Records It's an interesting choice, as this song gets very Renaissance-like about half way through.
Great all: Tom Brislin maestro¡¡ Great guitar Richie and fabulous rhythmic section. And the voice, sounds like angels. Superb.
GREAT RENDITION ON THIS YES CLASSIC I BROKE OUT MY GUIT FIDDLE AND CHASED THIS DOWN TONIGHT AND THE OTHER NIGHT SUNDAY I WORKED ON THE PIANO PART AND DID PRETTY GOOD CONSIDERING IM NOT A POLISHED KEYBOARD PLAYER BUT HAVING DIGESTED THIS ENTIRE ALBUM FOR 45 YEARS HELPED ME STRAIT OUT I WAS FORTUNATE TO SEE YES LIVE 1980 AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN ON A REVOLVING ROUND STAGE THEY WERE ONE OF THE BEST ACTS I HAVE EVER SEEN FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE AND SOUND THANKS FOR YOUR TAKE ON THIS ONE
Love this. Tom is so great
He Rocks
Because the other songs (Roundabout, Heart Of The Sunrise, etc.) on Fragile were so great, this tune kid of got lost in the wash. Nevertheless, it remains my second favorite Yessong of all time. You did a wonderful job of capturing the atmosphere of Mallory-like desperation the original piece has...Outstanding...Siberian Khatru PLEASE!...
Holy crap she just killed that... absolutely riveting. Awesome performance by everyone!!! The remaining members of Yes should sponsor you guys to go on tour doing their material.
Yes, love my Yes!!!! Keep playing all the Yes songs you can work into your busy schedules! So happy I stumbled across your channel, dear BG friends!!!!
Wonderful! It's great to hear and see Tom play yes music again. You guys all did a terrific job.
Awesome - So much talent in that room!!
Love all your YES covers, But I keep coming back to this one !!!!! Time & time again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
At first I did not realize it was Tom Brislin. My wife and I seen symphonic yes in Vancouver B.C. We were in the fourth row in line with Steve Howe. Show was great Tom was great
Dang! You guys totally amaze me. I saw the "Close to the Edge" cover you did and found this one. I'm stunned!
