Started building mine the day I got it. Went together great!! Best fitting kit I have ever built. Glad they used the Ertl kit as a template. The old Ertl kits were way better than AMT. I wish they would correct/fix the old AMT molds before the re-issue any further kits. It would be nice if they would issue kits of trucks from the past 20-30 years. Thanks for the review.
Painted it to match the box art. Been looking at that cover for almost 50 years and always wanted one. Out of high school I drove a 1970 4070A hauling grain over to the Mississippi River. Good times! @@THROTTLEPOWER

I have had the same problems. I bought a pro star from the Franklin hobby show a few months ago and when I opened the box my cab was deformed and parts were as well deformed. Your right bought checking your boxes. It’s just a pain in the rear to get the model company to replace them. They always think your just tryin to get free parts unfortunately

I built the original kit back in 73 while in HS, was my favorite model at the time. I have the transtar ll Eagle on my shelf now. Thanks for posting this. Nice looking kit, pity about the missing decals, but AMT HQ is in Michigan, so if ICM can send me a missing part for a Heinkel He 111 all the way from the Ukraine to Oz, AMT should be able to sort that one for you pronto. :)
It’s a very modified reissue. The cab is different, the tires were redesigned the front axle was relocated forward the decals are all new and the front ten holes were added.
Well kinda sorta. It's entirely new tooling though, there's not a single bit of the original kit tooling used beyond the fact they 3D scanned an original one to digitize the parts into CAD.
@@Your2TiminEx I was very fortunate, I joined the Navy Seabees 78-83 as a heavy equipment operator and got to learn and haul heavy equipment with 2 different DM 800 Mack's. One had the V8 and one had the straight 6. It was a dream come true.
Great review Tim. Really nice that they did the new tooling for this and did the corrections. Also nice that they didn't unnecessarily chrome some of those parts that you would normally dechrome anyway. Wanted one of these kits when I was a kid but never got one, I'll be getting one now.
Yea, that threw me off when I was filming it. I contacted AMT/Round Two and finally got the decals. I put together a video of "how to get replacement parts". I need to release that video.

I drove a couple of these old girls. One had a 6v92 Detroit and a 9speed. And the othe had a 250 Cummins and a 13speed. Good old trucks and roomy too but rode like a road wagon. Rougher than a cob. Lol!!
Im medically retired now. Been collecting and building truck kits and nascar kits for years. Got my first kit at 10 and haven’t looked back lol. Gotta get my hobby room done. We just moved in May and haven’t got anything ready to continue building yet. Got a Peterbilt 359 I gotta get done so I can get started on another project. Lol.

Hi Tim, firstly greeting from Australia, I have just come across your channel and would very much like to co e along on this build journey , I do like the look of these older trucks, did AMTA ever re-make their older fire truck kits? Take care and keep safe and well in these crazy Covid times.
@@THROTTLEPOWER Sadly I am more into military kits, but I do have a dream of building at least one fire truck sometime, I do note at least here in Australia, there are very few if any kits of emergency vehicles, police cars included, i did forget to say in my last message, yoh have a new subscriber, take care mate.
Those have covers on them. It's to keep crud out,and to attenuate the sound a bit. These flat fronted horns in the AMT kits is just to make it easier to mold and makes the parts themselves stronger. I hollow mine out and they look real good. If you don't like drilling a carving them out,just paint them flat black or glue a slightly bigger piece of plastic and round them out a bit like one of the covers.
You are correct, we call them "snow caps" for the Northern cold weather. Heck, as fast as this year is going Fall/Winter will be here before we know it.

Some times if I don't feel like carving them out I will put a cap on the end to resemble the snow caps. Other wise like you said Tom, you almost have to do something with them to get them to look good. Especially since they are right there on top! 😉

Some old trucks do have flat fronts on their horns and are not open at the front. Maybe to keep them clean inside. Not sure.
